Q: Are there any alternatives to the dark material dentists generally use for fillings? A: Indeed there are. Over the years, the traditional filling materials have been gold, porcelain, and silver amalgam, which is the dark material you reference in your question. Amalgam is made up of mercury, silver, tin, zinc, and copper. There also are tooth-colored glass and plastic materials called composite resin fillings. The location of the tooth, the extent of decay in it, cost and other considerations are factors you’ll need to discuss with your dentist when deciding how to proceed and determining which filling material is most appropriate. Composites are not only cosmetically preferable to metal amalgams, they actually make the filled tooth stronger because they bond to the tooth and give it a higher structural integrity.
Premium Money Market For a limited time, earn a premium rate on balances up to $100,000.
After the dentist removes the decay from the tooth, he or she will apply the tooth-colored material in layers, and using a special light, will harden – a process called curing – each layer as applied. Finally, the dentist will shape the material as desired and polish the finished work. Another benefit to the composite filling is that since there is no metal in it, the tooth will be less sensitive to hot and cold. So talk with your dentist about your options when you need to have a tooth filled.

The APY for accounts with a balance greater than $100,000 will range from 1.25% to 0.15%, depending on the balance in the account. Fees may reduce earnings. Rates subject to change at any time. regionals, she said. The CrossFit Central Regional consists of athletes from several Midwest states. Todnem described Miller as a “workhorse and one of the top CrossFit athletes. “She’s the top individual at our gym. We haven’t had anyone else qualify for regionals, so she’s our best CrossFitter, he said. “She puts in the work in the gym every day. She’s good at body weight movements like handstands and push-ups. Not everyone who works out at a CrossFit gym has to compete in the sport. Miller said she is one of a group of about 15 people at Amplify who participate in the competitive program, which consists of longer, more intense workouts. She said anyone can do the program because it can be tailored to the participant’s fitness level. Miller plans to keep training at CrossFit Amplify, which she called “one of the best CrossFit gyms in the area. She said she loves CrossFit because it changed her life. “It’s a great way to work out, and it creates really good friendships, Miller explained. “You can set goals and feel like you’ve accomplished something. It allows you to push past what you thought were limits and get better and better.

LISLE – Most people hit the gym to lose weight, but Kristin Miller, 27, is hoping to gain a little weight to help her reach her goal of competing in the national CrossFit Games. “I want to gain some so I can lift more weight, she said. “That’s the CrossFit mentality; it’s not about losing weight, it’s about what you can achieve in the gym and how strong you can get. Miller, who trains five days a week at CrossFit Amplify in Lisle, competed in the CrossFit Central Regional from May 29 to 31 in Minneapolis. The Aurora resident, who is an indoor skydiving instructor in Naperville, finished 11th overall among 40 female competitors, whose ages ranged from 17 to mid-30s. “I didn’t qualify for the national CrossFit Games in California because only the top five in each region qualify for that, she said. “You always hope to qualify for nationals, but it’s a learning experience. [Last weekend] was the best I’ve done at regionals. Miller has competed at three regional competitions. In her first year she placed 14th, and last year she placed 16th. This year, she competed in workouts where she had to do var-
everybody, but everyone makes it through, Miller said. “Whoever makes it the fastest, wins. That’s why I train so much. CrossFit is a cross-training fitness program that features high-intensity, functional movements combined with strength training, said Scott Todnem, owner of CrossFit Amplify. “The idea is to keep it constantly varied, and it’s about being good at everything from barbells to running and jumping and just being as fit as you can be in your body, Todnem said. Miller began CrossFit in 2011 because her brother, Erik, began doing it. She fell in love with the sport and entered her first competition just a few months after she started training. She’s done about 20 competitions since then. She said her brother is her best friend and training partner, and they “have a little competition with each other when they’re in the gym. Miller explained anyone can sign up to compete in CrossFit. Red Stars Remain Unbeaten with 0-0 Draw in Seattle
NWSL leaders earn crucial away point behind strong defensive performance Seattle, Wash. – The NWSL-leading Chicago Red Stars stayed undefeated in their first seven matches of the season courtesy of a hard-fought scoreless draw with home side and Shield holders Seattle Reign FC. Head Coach Rory Dames’ squad earned the valuable point behind disciplined team defending and a strong performance by netminder Michele Dalton, whose seven saves saw the 26-year-old earn her second shutout of the 2015 campaign. Seattle controlled possession early on and created the first promising chance in the 13th minute. Reigning league MVP Kim Little sprinted down to the byline on the left side and set up Danielle Foxhoven, whose mishit effort from inside the box found fellow attacker Merritt Mathias. The Alabama native failed to make full contact on the ball, her shot attempt being comfortably stopped by Dalton. Chicago’s Vanessa DiBernardo released a dangerous drive at the other end of the field in the 20th minute, a wicked deflection forcing goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer to leave her feet for a spectacular parry. Red Stars defender Michelle Lomnicki had her side’s best chance of the day on the ensuing DiBernardo corner from the right, as she headed the ball goalward with Kopmeyer out of the net, only to see it dramatically headed off the line by Reign FC’s Elli Reed. The home side had a pair of attempts during the remainder of the opening period, forcing solid saves from Dalton, who did well to avoid giving up rebounds.

After the break, both teams’ promising attacking efforts were well defended, as the fans had to wait until the 65th minute for another close look. Red Stars midfielder Danielle Colaprico swung in a corner kick from the left and Lomnicki got her head on the ball once more, this time seeing her close-range effort bounce just wide of the left post. Seattle nearly punished the visitors for the missed opportunity eleven minutes later, Mathias firing a rocket off the top the crossbar from a central position just outside the box. The home side would follow up with two more promising looks. First substitute Rachel Corsie’s dangerous 82nd-minute cross from the right flank was redirected just wide of the goal by the foot of a Chicago player, then forward Beverly Yanez beat netminder Dalton to the ball on the ensuing corner, just to see her header land on top of the unguarded frame. It was the final noteworthy opportunity of the match, as the Red Stars successfully fended off some furious Reign FC attacking in the final stages to hold on for a crucial point away from home. The NWSL-leading Chicago Red Stars look to remain unbeaten through eight regular season games when they travel to take on Western New York Flash on June 6. The club’s next home match is on June 20 against second-place Washington Spirit. Nonprofit to help keep senior services going As a member of the 50plus category, I can say my perspective about aging has dramatically shifted as each decade has passed me by. Looking around me, I am constantly inspired by those who are older than me, who live life with tremendous passion and energy. Those lively examples are one of the many reasons I am excited about the newly formed nonprofit, Friends for Downers Grove Township Senior Citizens. Downers Grove Township has always been about serving more than 146,000 residents, no matter the age. We are all getting older. Of all of the townships in DuPage County, our township has the second highest percentage of residents ages 65 and older. Knowing the percentage will continue to grow, we want to make sure we are able to not only sustain services for those individuals but also have the capacity to address other needs. That vision is one of the reasons that the township sought to create this nonprofit, giving us the ability to reach into the community and partner with others who share a similar vision and passion for serving seniors. We are proud of those members of the community who have gladly joined our organization, stepping into a variety of roles to support the mission of Friends for Downers Grove Township Senior Citizens. As the organization continues to grow, we will make more and more connections with communi-
COMMUNITY VOICE Lori Wrzesinski ty partners whose focus is investing in the lives of senior residents. These partnerships will support our mission to foster the independence and well-being of older adults. We want to enhance their quality of life by acting as a resource for education and information as well as funding programs and services. We look forward to finding new opportunities to support and enhance the lives of the residents of Downers Grove Township through this organization. If you want more information about how you can be of support, give us a call at 630-719-6689 and we’ll be happy to talk to you. We also have a website under construction at www.friendsfordgtownship seniors.org. Downers Grove Township will continue making these connections with local organizations where we feel we can be most effective. We are proud of this current effort and of those who have stepped into leadership to create an organization that can have a far-reaching impact. It is a pleasure to serve all of our residents. Heroin’s deadly reign affects us all It’s easy to think of heroin addiction as something that happens to other people, other families. Especially if you and your children have made it through the teen years and early adulthood without coming under the thumb of addiction. But even if no one in your immediate circle had even tried heroin, it still affects you in ways that are almost impossible to see. Maybe your favorite cashier at the grocery store just isn’t there one day, and you never know why. Maybe a local business you frequent shuts down out of the blue. Maybe a friend or a colleague becomes distant for no apparent reason, no longer hosts gatherings, no longer talks with pride about what the kids are doing. Cook and DuPage counties have seen a decline in heroin-related deaths thanks to the use of Narcan to combat overdoses. From 46 deaths in 2013, to 33 last year, DuPage County is on track for about 27 this year. Cook County’s drop was less significant, from 275 in 2013 to 283 in 2014. Regardless, if those declines are because of the success of Narcan, then it means that
Suburban Life Media Editorial Board Laura Burke, Dave Lemery, Matt Hendrickson, Anna Schier, Alex Soulier, Mary Beth Versaci
VIEWS Dave Lemery the root problem – the use of heroin – may not have subsided at all. And there are many terrible outcomes for a heroin addict other than death. If your child is still in high school, but you know he or she is “one of the good kids” and would never use any kind of drugs, consider this: Every student in every high school knows who the “bad kids” are. If your model student has a weak moment, how hard would it be to get a hold of something truly devastating? I’m not looking to incite fear or convince every parent that their child is a secret dope fiend. Far from it. The miracle is that most teens, knowing full well how they could get their hands on some truly toxic substances, choose not to do so at a time in their life when they’ve got all kinds of pressures pushing them to make bad decisions. These are just a few of the obvious ways that heroin abuse continues to affect all
of us. And it’s going to continue to do so for a long time. That’s why Suburban Life has launched a new home online to collect our coverage of the heroin crisis in the suburbs. Visit and bookmark www.mysuburbanlife.com/ heroin to keep informed about what’s going on across the Chicago area. You’ll find stories about people who’ve been arrested, about families trying to make sense of lost loved ones, about government officials and police departments trying to find a way to make headway against this scourge. What we hope most is that as time goes by, you’ll find less and less news posted to the page as the heroin crisis recedes. But we know that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. In the meantime, we’ll continue to talk about the folks who are grappling with this issue. Because the sooner we accept that this is a problem that we all share, the sooner we’ll find solutions.

Fed up with feminism
Growing up, I bought into the general point of feminism, but as I matured and began to see life right-side up I realize what a lot of destructive blather it is. … It’s sad … how the propaganda continues to infect our college campuses and media, with the vilest of things being done and said all on the basis of this wretched perspective. The damage continues.

I just wanted to Sound Off about the sounds of lawnmowers and leaf blowers and everything that goes on in the summer to create this loud motor noise that goes on every day. I know it’s summertime. I know lawns have to be mowed and grass clippings have to be blown off, but there’s no way to sit out in your yard anymore on your deck or your patio and just enjoy the breeze and enjoy nature without this motor noise going on constantly at such loud decibels. I’m just wondering if it bothers anybody else or if it’s just me.

U. S. Rep. Dan Lipinski may have no ill will toward the public, but like all politicians, he’s not telling the whole story. Upkeep of the public transportation system … is the responsibility of the transit companies and is worked into the fare you pay to ride the bus or train. Over the years, more and more maintenance was deferred in favor of bigger and bigger salaries for the administrators of the transit companies. … Don’t be fooled, transit riders, you already paid for maintenance. Don’t let politicians tell you that you need to pay yet a second time for the same maintenance that you have already paid for with your fare to ride.

LEFT: A juicy patty is at the heart of the Make Shroom for Me Burger, a delicious item taken up a notch by a side of sweet potato fries. During my next visit, I decided I wanted to put my red meat cravings on the backseat for the sake of vegetarian readers, and ordered the veggie burger topped with avocado and tomato. Back Alley got points straight away for the clearly house-made patty instead of
the frozen black bean affair found in many places. It had a whole lot of mildly spicy complexity to it, but could have used more sear. I decided to go with the classic onion rings as my side this go-round, and, predictably, they were battered perfectly. Each had a uniform
amount of tasty breading with a nice crunch and plenty of welcome onion flavor. I knew I needed to sample one of the restaurant’s handspun shakes to truly tell the full story. The Nutella version was intensely chocolate and dangerously drinkable as opposed to milk shakes the

A lot of places do a decent burger, and a lot try to push the envelope of what a burger can be. Back Alley definitely does so with success, along with a friendly waitstaff quick to offer a suggestion, and a welcoming interior with rockand-roll appeal. If you’re going to put your burger fate in the hands of anyone, the people at Back Alley should be near the top of the list.

LA GRANGE – Grilling season is here, but consider leaving the burger production to the pros at Back Alley Burger in La Grange. The restaurant is the creation of veteran restaurateurs Mary and Christopher Spagnola of Western Springs, who first met at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Their training is a big part of what sets Back Alley Burger apart, and their concept has expanded to a second location in Elmhurst. The pair’s hard-rocking La Grange restaurant has a big but focused menu offering a number of different burgers featuring grass-fed and never frozen beef, plus sandwiches, chili, nitrate-free hot dogs, salads, shakes, beer and wine, all served alongside street art decor and classic rock tunes. Inventive burger toppings and a theme alone do not a quality restaurant make, but, luckily, Back Alley Burger delivers. Though my imagination was caught by the Most Insane-est Hottest Burger Ever-est, filled with such ingredients as habanero jam, fried jalapeños, Thai chili cream cheese and something called Trinidad scorpion sauce, I decided to go with the less threatening Make Shroom for Me Burger. What came out was truly delicious. The patty itself was incredibly juicy without being greasy, and the pretzel bun it came on gave just enough structure to make sure the second half of the burger wasn’t soggy. Though it could have used a bit more of the namesake mushrooms, the grilled onions on top added an appreciated bite to the sandwich. A surprise was the caliber of the sweet potato fries. So many restaurants make a tremendous burger, but serve a pile of over-salted greasy fries alongside it. These were some of the best I’ve ever had. The thin fries had an amazing crispness to them that still had a mind-boggling amount of creamy sweet potato in the middle.

Mustangs, Trojans both claim baseball regionals Mustangs did the same, but the significance of winning the program’s third straight regional title was not wasted. “It feels great,” Jones said. “Obviously I’m excited and I’m sure everyone else is excited.” “You can say whatever you want about your schedule, but it’s hard to go out there day in and day out and year in and year out and win,” Orel said. To win three [regionals] in a row in the regionals we’re in is phenomenal.” The regional win sends the Mustangs to the Romeoville sectional, where they will face Downers Grove North in a semifinal at 4 p.m. June 3.
By JASON ROSSI jrossi@shawmedia.com DARIEN – Zack Jones might hold the unofficial record for longest start in baseball history. The Downers Grove South senior got the starting nod in the regional final game against Yorkville on May 30. He finally got the win June 1 as the Mustangs earned a 1-0 victory at the Class 4A Hinsdale South regional after rain suspended the game for two days. “Coming off the delay from after going two innings, I was a little bit nervous to go back in only two days later, but obviously it went well for me and the team,” Jones said. Jones worked out of firstand-third jams in the fourth and sixth innings June 1, and the Mustangs (29-5) scored in the bottom half of the fourth. Danny Oriente singled, stole second, went to third on Ryan Taylor’s groundout and scored on Zack Radde’s sacrifice fly. Oriente’s hit was one of just a pair South had in the game. Joe Engel singled to start the sixth and was left stranded. While Jones was sharp on the mound, the defense behind him was just as solid. Taylor started an inning-ending 5-43 double play in the fifth, and he raced in an made a diving catch on a sacrifice bunt attempt in the seventh. “Zack was so tough today, and our defense, too,” South head coach Darren Orel said. “The combination of our defense and Zack on the mound was the difference because [Yorkville] played an outstanding game.” Jones had confidence he could make the one run stand up and was confident Peter Hamot could close it out on the mound in the seventh. “I got a little nervous there when they had two guys on base [in the seventh], but Peter held through and we got the

The dominance Downers Grove North enjoyed against Hinsdale Central in the regular season carried over to the playoffs as the Trojans won 10-0 in five innings in a regional semifinal May 28. They followed that up with a 6-0 win against host Neuqua Valley for the regional title May 30. The Trojans will face crosstown foe Downers Grove South in a sectional semifinal at 4 p.m. June 3 at Romeoville. North swept Central in a West Suburban Silver series in the regular season in three games decided by a total of five runs, but the playoff game was a lopsided affair. North led 2-0 after an inning before an eight-run fifth inning ended the game. Brendan Shanahan had two RBIs and scored two runs against Central. Dallton Baran doubled, scored a run and had two RBIs while Jack Warwick tripled, scored twice and drove in one run. Myles Farley, Brett Pyburn, Pat Geraghty and Ben Carlson each plated one run to help make a winner of Nic Laio, who yielded just two hits and struck out six during five innings on the mound.

Mustangs move on with regional win Early runs make a difference for DGS By DAVE OWEN editorial@mysuburbanlife.com BOLINGBROOK – After not pitching for two weeks because of injury, Downers Grove South lefty Caroline Hedgcock received a nice welcome back present from her teammates Monday – a big early lead. The Mustangs (34-1) struck for four runs in the first inning of their Class 4A regional title game against host Bolingbrook then survived an unusually ragged seventh inning to win 6-3 and earn their fifth regional title in the past six years. “I’ve been pitching for a long time, so it was just getting back to the fundamentals,” said Hedgcock, who tossed a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts to improve to 14-0 on the season. “My change-up was working early, and I felt really confident in all my pitches. And I had great offense behind me. My team really helped me out over the first four innings and made me feel really confident.” A Kristen Bialek walk and RBI double by Kristin Lea began the first inning. Lea later scored on a wild pitch, then singles by Zahrya McFarland and Nicole Bowman and a two-out, two-run throwing error by Bolingbrook on a Rebekah Ondracek grounder widened the lead to 4-0. “We got four early runs off a good pitcher [Western Illinois-bound Megan
Lotarski], so that was nice,” Mustangs coach Ron Havelka said. “They made some mistakes and we took advantage of them.” Two-out RBI triples by Hedgcock (second inning) and McFarland (fourth inning) made it 6-0. McFarland (2 for 3) led Downers South’s six-hit attack, as all but one Mustangs hitter reached base in the game. “Everybody sees the ball well and we pick each other up,” McFarland said. “We have really good chemistry on and off the field, and that helps a lot.” Five Bolingbrook errors led to four unearned runs off Lotarski, but the Mustangs had their own glove struggles. “We made four errors, which is very uncharacteristic,” Havelka said. “We have to clean things up there a lot.” Errors in each of the last two innings led to three Bolingbrook runs, including a two-run, seventh-inning rally that Hedgcock cut short with a game-ending tap back to the mound. The No. 1-seeded Mustangs hosted Plainfield East in the sectional semifinals June 2. The winner advanced to the sectional finals June 6 at Downers South. “I think we’re really prepared to keep getting better,” Hedgcock said. “I’m really excited for the postseason. It’s what we live for.” “We want to be up for each game because we know what each one means,” McFarland said. “We’re going to play as a team and see where it takes us. I think we can go very far.”

DGN softball lives up to early promise on playoff run By MATT LE CREN editorial@mysuburbanlife.com PLAINFIELD – Downers Grove North senior pitcher Megan Ramsden had the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of Dale Ryndak. Ryndak was the 2014 Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year who guided Downers Grove North to a regional title last season before moving on to Arizona State. Ramsden might not have the pitching prowess of Ryndak, but she and her teammates still did their school proud. The Trojans’ quest for a third consecutive regional championship ended with Monday’s 5-0 loss against host Plainfield East in a Class 4A regional final, but they still managed to
win 25 games. “Our program is definitely a strong program, and after the first week of practice, I knew we were going to be a force to be reckoned with this year because every single girl on this team has so much heart and so much love for the game,” Ramsden said. “And you can tell when they play.” Ramsden did her part, going 17-4 in the pitching circle. She allowed only one earned run against the Bengals (22-10), that being a home run by Grace Cowan in the top of the second inning. Plainfield East added an unearned run in the fifth and three more off Ramsden and reliever Savannah Rodriguez in the seventh. “They were a really good team and
they came out here ready to play,” said Ramsden, who walked one and struck out four. “We put everything we had into the game but it just didn’t go our way today.” Plainfield East pitcher Bianca Vozenilek was a big reason why. The sophomore hurled a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks. Zoe Varsbergs had the only extra-base hit for Downers North, a oneout double in the first, but she was stranded. The Trojans (25-7) had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with one out in the fourth but failed to score and also left two runners on in the sixth. Despite the loss, Downers North coach Eric Landschoot was pleased
with his team’s season. “Part of being a good program is to keep rebuilding every year,” Landschoot said. “Sure, you may not have the Gatorade Player of the Year every year, but you find a way to win games with the talent you have. “It was just a really great group of kids to coach and it makes my job easy when you have a group of girls like that.” Ramsden, who will not play in college, will savor the memories of her final season. “This year was so unbelievable,” Ramsden said. “Every single person on this team stepped up and did their job and contributed. We just had so much success because of the camaraderie between everyone.”

both the 400 dash and the 200. He posted at time of 49.11 in the 400, just 0.07 behind runner-up Jordan Rowell of IC Catholic. In the 200, he crossed the line in 22.17, which was 0.16 back of the second-place finisher. Earlier in the day, the junior placed sixth in the 100 with a clocking of 11.01. “I have to be appreciative,” Harris said, “I just have to keep working at it,

The Raiders had two all-state finishes at the Class 3A meet May 30 at Eastern Illinois University. Damare Portis, Tyler Elmore, Elante Ingram and Joshua Collins took sixth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:27.61 while Jaylan McConico clocked a 14.79 for seventh in the 110 hurdles. Portis (10th in the long jump, 22 feet, 0.5 inches), Peyton Chapman (10th in the 800, 1:54.99) and Justin Rivers (11th in the high jump, 6 feet) made it to event finals but finished just off the awards stand. McConico (300 hurdles); Zyon Bell (high jump); the 4x100 relay team of Portis, Elmore, Collins and Shawn Showalter; and the 4x400 quartet of Gordon Martin, Shada Pierce, Caleb Robertson and Elmore competed in event preliminaries.

DOWNERS GROVE – Downers Grove South’s boys tennis team had a memorable state tournament for the second year in a row. The Mustangs may not have matched the 29 team points scored, the fourth-place team finish or number of matches won in 2014, but the 2015 state tourney was still a success. “We had our best Thursday ever,” head coach Pete Freischlag said of the first day of the tourney May 28. “We went 9-0 and all four guys were still in the main draw.” Singles players Tony Leto and Christian San Andres, as well as the doubles team of Lawrence Hiquiana and Zach Wood, all won their first three matches at state. Leto, already battling through illness just to play at state, ran into No. 2 singles seed Gianni Ross of Lyons Township in the fourth round. San Andres met No. 4 seed Alex Ross from LT in the fourth round, and Hiquiana and Wood met Miguel Perez and David Zakhodin, the top-seeded doubles team, in the fourth round. Gianni Ross and the Perez-Zakhodin tandem finished second in the state and Alex Ross was third. “We weren’t sure if Leto was going to play [at state],” Freischlag said. “He didn’t finish the sectional. He was sick and he still won four matches.” After his initial loss, Leto won a three-set match in the consolation bracket. San Andres pushed Alex Ross in a three-set match that lasted nearly 3 ½ hours, according to Freischlag. “He battled for three hours and 20 minutes, then 20 minutes later he turned around and had to play a kid that was sitting and waiting for him,” the coach said. The Mustangs finished 10th in the state with 19 points, part of a successful season that saw them go 17-3 in dual meet matches and win the West Suburban Gold title. “All four of our kids were all-state and we finished 10th,” Freischlag said. “We’ll take it.”

CHARLESTON – Ryan Clevenger said his coach accurately predicted how the Class 3A 1,600-meter run would play out at the IHSA state meet May 30. And after the dust had settled from the fast-paced race, the Downers Grove North senior had added another allstate medal to his collection with a fourth-place finish. “My coach told me the exact way it would go,” Clevenger said after crossing the line in 4:11.22. “It felt very fast, after two and a half laps, it felt like I was finishing the race. “I wanted to win but that’s fine. I’ll take fourth with a fast time any day.” A year ago, he finished third in the same event, swapping places with Conant’s Zach Dale. “I love the crowd here,” he said. “Everyone is hyped up for the meet, it’s a great experience.” Another great experience is up ahead as Clevenger is headed to Wisconsin to continue his cross country and track careers. “I’ve tried not to think about that because I was focused on my senior year and finishing it off right,” the senior said. “But I’m very happy to be going there, it’s an honor going to that school.” Alec Danner ran in the finals of the 3,200 run and clocked a 9:41.18. CHARLESTON – Aaron Harris has made big strides on the track from his sophomore to junior years, going from one all-state medal to three at the Class 1A state meet May 30. But the Lisle junior still has some unfinished business to complete during the next 12 months. “Last year, I was only here for the 200 [meter dash],” Harris said, “This year, I was here for the 100, 200 and 400. It’s hard work and dedication, that is the key to getting here. “And like I said last year, there are now 363 days to come back and go for that gold medal. I train almost 365 days a year, I maybe take a week off. I can’t have any regrets next year. I want to go get those records and gold medals.” Harris came close to standing atop the awards podium, finishing third in
