Designed to intrigue, surprise, delight, and challenge, the festival offers twenty-four sessions for audience members to choose. Adam and Kizzie, Oklahoma City’s popular musical duo, open the festival at noon with a performance of several African American music genres and an explanation of their importance. In other sessions, audience members will hear about such varied topics as the Electoral College, Harry Potter, life at 100 years of age, the Carter Family music, race relations, late-night humor and even a Game of Thrones live podcast. The day ends with a multimedia presentation by NPR’s Radiolab founder Jad Abumrad. There promises to be something for everyone. Ticket and program information can be found at www.okhumanities.org/curiosityfest. A beer tasting and food samples add to the fun of the day. VIP reception tickets are also available. Tre'Juan Shaw (21)

Shawnee vs. Muskogee By Adam Ewing

news-star.com

Springs and Ponca City in district play. Shawnee beat Ponca City 32-27 and squeaked out a 23-20 overtime victory over Sand Springs.

adam.ewing@news-star.com Twitter: @aethefranchise

The Wolves went to Tulsa last week to face a really tough Booker T. Washington team. They were unable to find a way to score, losing 54-0. Shawnee (2-4, 2-1) will need to right the ship this week, but it will not be an easy task as they head to Muskogee to square off with the Roughers (4-2, 2-1). Both teams have played Sand

Muskogee had similar success, beating Sand Springs 45-25 and a close game against Ponca City that resulted in a 16-7 win. Shawnee had success early in the Booker T. game. They kept the opposition out of the end zone early. However, once the Hornets made some adjustments, they hung a 50-spot on the Wolves.

He totaled 18 yard on 14 attempts. It seems as though the team lives and dies with Shaw. If he runs well, the team wins as they are 2-0 when he runs for more than 100 yards.

The Wolves will need to figure out what worked in that first quarter and apply it this week against another tough district opponent.

Jaylon Orange (13)

Muskogee's offense is based around their running back as well. Jimmie Coleman is closing in on 1,000 yards for the season. The junior running back currently sits at 912 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns.

Last week, Scout Cawvey led the ream in receiving yards with 53. This was the second time the junior led the team this season. His quarterback, Heath Hunter who ran for his life last week, totaled 74 yards in the loss.

The Rougher's air attack is very efficient. Sophomore Ty Williams completes 62 percent of his passes and has thrown for 640 yards. The group of receivers has four athletes over 100 yards on the season and 10 athletes have caught at least one pass this season.

Hunter will need the offensive line to give him more time if the Wolves are to have any success through the air. After consecutive 100-yard performances, the team's leading rusher, Tre'Juan Shaw, struggled last week.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Muskogee High School.

#NSPreps Area Game of the Week:

Stigler vs. Seminole By Adam Ewing

adam.ewing@news-star.com Twitter: @aethefranchise

Through the first five weeks, Seminole (5-1, 2-1) looked like a team that could run the table. Two weeks ago they beat a ranked Lincoln Christian team 50-31. Last week, in a bit of an upset, the Chieftains lost to Idabel 24-14 on the road. This week they host another tough opponent in Stigler (5-1, 2-1). Expect coach Mike Snyder to put his team through a tough week of practice and film study leading up to Friday. Cameron Gunville carried the load for Seminole again last week. He came back down to earth after consecutive 300-yard performances and totaled 181 on the ground against Idabel. His two touchdowns were the only scores of the evening. The junior currently ranks first in the area with 1,290 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns.

Stigler's receivers all seem to have big play ability. As a unit, they average 21.7 yards per reception. Jaxon Calhound and Lakin Bass are tied for the team lead with five reciving touchdowns. Calhoun also leads the team in yards per catch (27.9). Mason Peery leads the bunch with 320 receiving yards. This should be a high scoring game and another test to see if the Chieftains are a legit championship contender. Seminole's defense, who typically applies a ton of pressure will need to do so with some consistency this Friday if they want to disrupt the Stigler offense. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Quarterback Cade Hammond is about as efficient as they come. He's tied for second in the area with 10 passing touchdowns and has thrown for 648 yards, which ranks sixth. Chieftains receivers, Chico Baker and Saybion Battles, rank fifth and sixth in receiving yards. Baker has 325 yards and four scores and Battles is close behind with 274 and four touchdowns. Stigler's quarterback, Nate Bryant lights up the field whenever he touches it. He's thrown for 1,250 yards and 17 touchdowns while only throwing two interceptions. The senior also completes 62 percent of his passes. The running game for Stigler is led by sophomore Ridge McClary who averages 8.6 yards per carry and has tallied 527 yards rushing along with seven touchdowns.

Other games scheduled for Oct. 12

Purcell (3-3, 1-2) at Bethel (1-5, 0-3) – 7 p.m.

Gunner Smith (6) - Bethel

The Wildcats have a good shot at picking up a district win against Purcell this week. Bethel has no problem scoring points and Purcell gives up touchdowns in bunches. Gunner Smith continues to sling the pigskin all over the field. He leads the area in passing with 1,517 yards and 15 touchdowns, almost doubling the next two quarterbacks. Devin Acklin and Drae Wood rank first and second in the area in receiving yards. Acklin ranks first in receiving touchdowns with six.

Prague (5-1, 3-0) at Chandler (2-4, 0-3) – 7 p.m.

Prague is rolling right along as district play enters its fourth week. The Red Devils found their identity and they are embracing the smash mouth style of play. Even though leading rusher Brayden McGinnis was held to under 100 yards for the first time all season, Prague found a way to win thanks to defensive and special teams touchdowns.

Caddo (2-4, 0-1) at Maud (2-4, 0-1) – 7:30 p.m.

Maud desperately needs a win after dropping four straight games. When healthy, the Tigers can score points in droves. Caddo is a team that can give up points just as easily. This game has the perfect combination for the Tigers to get back on track and pick up their third win this season.

Okemah (4-2, 2-1) at Meeker (5-1, 2-1) – 7 p.m. Coach DJ Howell has his team firing on all cylinders as they face another formidable opponent this week. The Bulldog passing attack was on fire last week as Jacob Martin moved up to third in the area in passing yards (732) after a 181-yard three touchdown performance. Caden Wolford will get his yards every week. If the passing game has a repeat performance, expect Meeker to pull off another win.

Tecumseh (2-4, 0-3) at Harrah (0-6, 0-3) – 7:30 p.m. Coach Ty Bullock has to feel pretty confident about his team picking up their first district win this week. Teams know what to expect when playing Tecumseh. They are going to run the football and run it often. If Jaylen Walker and Micah Boyce can move the chains like they are fully capable of, the Savages should get that daunting district win come Friday.

McLoud (2-4, 1-2) at Tuttle (6-0, 3-0) – 7:30 p.m.

The Redskins seem to have found their rhythm on offense. Koalton Keller led some impressive drives last week in the loss to Cushing. Damien Dye continues to give the team 20-25 carries and hovers around 100 yards rushing almost every week. If the McLoud pass defense can hold down the fort, McLoud could pull off an upset of undefeated Tuttle this week.

#NSPreps Power Rankings By Adam Ewing

adam.ewing@news-star.com Twitter: @aethefranchise

1. Seminole (5-1, 2-1) Seminole suffered their first defeat of the season last week. Before that loss they looked nearly unstoppable. Teams will get a heavy dose of Cameron Gunville each week. If they can somehow contain him, the Chieftains passing game with Cade Hammond and receivers Chico Baker and Saybion Battles can score almost at will. Coach Mike Snyder's defense is ferocious and can disrupt any offense they face. 2 Meeker (5-1, 2-1) The Bulldogs continue to impress me every week. If Caden Wolford doesn't score a touchdown the Bulldogs still find a way to get in the endzone. Wolford hasn't scored in two weeks but the passing game and defense has stepped up and is finding creative ways to score. Dawson Stanberry had three offensive touchdowns last week and gave the team a defensive score as well. As the team continues to gel, they will be a scary matchup come playoff time.

3. Prague (5-1, 3-0) Before the season started I had high hopes for this team. After the first week I started to second guess myself, but since they have rattled off five wins in a row and look to make it sixth with a district win over Chandler this week. Brayden McGinnis will get his yards every week. If any other player finds a way to make a play or two, this team has a legit chance at running the table. 4. Shawnee (2-4, 2-1) The Wolves started off dropping three straight but once district play started they picked up two wins in a row. They dropped a tough one to Booker T. Washington last week and have another tough draw this week. If they can keep the game close and give their offense a chance to win it, the Wolves have the playmakers on offense to leave Muskogee with an upset victory. 5. McLoud (2-4, 1-2) Last week the McLoud offense really impressed me in the loss to Cushing. They were down early and came back to take the lead. If their defense can get a stop here and there, McLoud can get back to .500 in their district and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Shawnee News-Star

news-star.com

6. Tecumseh (2-4, 0-3) Teams have to earn their win over the Savages. Coach Ty Bullock keeps his team fighting until the final whistle every week. This week, they go up against a Harrah team trying to get their first win. If the Savages continue their run-heavy attack they should be able to keep Harrah in the winless column for another week. 7. Chandler (2-4, 0-3) The Lions have some really talented athletes on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Chabon Anderson returned last week after missing a game with an undisclosed injury. He is a load to bring down and if he's 100%, he and Dylan McKinney can carve up defenses on the ground. 8. Maud (2-4, 0-1) Maud is reeling after dropping four straight games. They have struggled to score points the last few weeks and if they can make the proper adjustments, they have the talent to pick up a few wins in a row. 9. Bethel (1-5, 0-3) Nothing is easy against the Wildcats. They can score points and air it out with the best of them. They had a few heartbreakers early and have lost a few games by a much larger margin as of late. This is a team that is always a few plays away from getting the win. Bethel is a young team and when they figure out how to close games, they are going to be one of the toughest teams in the area.

No. 5 Ouachita Visits Bison Saturday

Oklahoma Baptist faces its toughest home game of the season Saturday as No. 5 Ouachita Baptist visits for a 1 p.m. contest at Crain Family Stadium at the Hurt Memorial Athletic Complex.

The Bison are 2-4 after a 56-21 loss at Henderson State last week.

Preston Haire averages 279.2 yards passing per game through six games this season to lead the Great American Conference. His yards per game are 13th nationally. His 27.5 completed passes per game are second in NCAA Division II. He has completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 1,675 yards and 14 touchdowns. Those TD strikes rank 15th in the nation. He also is the team's No. 2 rusher, getting 20 yards on the ground per game and leads the GAC in total offense at 299.2 yards per game.

Cagney Roberson leads the Bison receiving corps with 40 receptions and 460 yards. His 6.7 receptions per game leads the GAC and is 17th in NCAA II. He averages 76.6 yards receiving per game. Jacques Henderson and Josh Pettijohn have four touchdown receptions apiece. Noah McGraw has 22 catches of 290 yards.

OBU is getting 375 yards total offense per game and have allowed three quarterback sacks this season. They have kept Preston Haire's jersey clean in four of six games this year. Center Zach Blevins, guards Creede Wright, John Kent Calhoun and tackles Jake Foshee and Brian Cornell have started all six games. OBU is fifth nationally in sacks allowed.

True freshman Tyler Stuever leads the Bison with 52.2 yards per game and three of the team's four rushing touchdowns.

Connor Watts handled the punting duties at Henderson State and unloaded two punts of more than 50 yards, including a 61-yard effort. He pinned three punts inside the 20. Luke Wendl has five field goals this season, including two of more than 40 yards and a long of 45.

Robert Lolofie has three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks to lead OBU in those categories from the defensive line. He ranks fifth in the GAC in sacks. The Bison have registered five sacks this season.

Josh Arnold leads the Bison with 59 tackles this season with 32 solos and 27 assists. His 59 take-

downs rank fourth in the GAC and 37th nationally. Lane Martin is the third-leading tackler on the team with 38 tackles. Martin is 15th in the GAC.

Redshirt freshman Felipe Alvear leads the Bison secondary with 55 tackles through six games. He also has the team's only interception this season, 1.5 tackles for loss, four pass break-ups, a pair of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He is sixth in the GAC in tackles.

The Tigers are 6-0 after holding then No. 19 Harding off from inside the 10 late in the fourth quarter for a 7-3 road win last week.

Kris Oliver averages 76 yards per game on the ground and has six rushing touchdowns, while Brockton Brown has scored seven times. Brayden Brazeal has passed for 625 yards, completing 52 of 85 passes this season. Allie Freeman has 27 catches for 299 yards and the lone touchdown catch.

Airric Parker has 38 tackles and Keandre Evans has pilfered three passes for the Tigers. Dameyun McDonald leads the Tigers with 2.5 sacks.
