Letter From The Editor Dota Therapy Evaluate Psyche Status Space Momentum Theory The Blame Game Waga on MMR The Negatives

Letter From The Editor Hello, There are many exciting changes happening for Dota2 Magazine. One change, is that we will be releasing two fullfledged magazines per month. The second, is that we will also create little MINI-Zines, just like this one, every week. They will focus on a specific topic or interest. Another great change is that we have a team! You will be reading our contributors articles in the next major magazine release (two weeks). Keep in mind that we are still looking for more contributors, artists, graphic designers, etc. If you think you have a talent you want to showcase to the Dota community, please feel free to contact me. Also, the Mini-Zines are done solely by me (Fatbaby) and I would appreciate feedback if this would be a cool thing to do for the commuity. Cheers, -Fat Baby Dota fatbabydota@gmail.com fatbabydota@twitter

Sisyphus In Greek mythology Sisyphus was a king of Ephyra punished for chronic deceitfulness by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this action forever. Make your opponent always feel like Sisyphus. Deny him any sense of composure, make them feel like their efforts will always be a waste. Seize momentum and us it to your advantage.

um of for Failure When I ask executives to consider this spectrum and then to estimate how many of the failures in their organizations are truly blameworthy, their answers are usually in single digits—perhaps 2% to 5%. But when I ask how many are treated as blameworthy, they say (after a pause or a laugh) 70% to 90%. The unfortunate consequence is that many failures go unreported and their lessons are lost.

Waga on MMR Wagamama started playing Dota in 2004 at an amatuer level. He has played for numerous teams, including Pulse eSports and QPAD Red Pandas. He also was a co足casting with Tobi Wan at The Internation 3. As of April 25th, 2014 he is listed on the Dota 2 European Leaderboards at the #5 spot with a Solo MMR of 6498. He's indeed a valuable asset in the Dota 2 community with not only his years of experience as a Professional Dota 2 player, but as a role model with his humble attitude.

“You are being calibrated how you play in pubs. I was calibrated at 5.3k MMR and now I’m calibrated at 6.7k MMR.”

“All my teammates suck and I’m accidently calibrated lower than I should actually be. How do I solve this?” “First, you should realize that you have been calibrated at a specific MMR because you played in a way that you should be there. You haven’t played so that you should be at 7k or 8k MMR. You played in a way that you should be there. This is the case for everyone.”

“The best way to improve your MMR is to just look at your own replays and see what mistakes you have made. Just realize all your mistakes, every player in the world makes tons of mistakes. That’s the nature of Dota 2, there are many chances to make mistakes.”

“I like to view my own perspective, and not look for small mistakes like missing a Hook. But focus on general criteria, like last hitting.”

“The most important thing it to realize that you aren’t as good as you want to be. You need to know that you can play better and tell yourself that you’re not playing at the level you should be. If you think you are as good as you should be, than why would you ever improve? The most dangerous thing is to be comfortable with your level of play.”

“If you want to get better, one way is to play what you have a big impact on, which depends on your play style; support, carry, etc. Find what your style is, what you enjoy playing, and what you have the most impact playing.”

“You need to have fun. If you don’t have fun when you play, you get mad and you play worse. Perhaps you play better when you’re mad, but you won’t play better if you’re bored. Bottomline you should have fun.”

“If you want to communicate with your team, be friendly. Making snarky remarks won’t help your team. If you ever played with someone who spammed Well Played or other iterations after you fuck up, it isn’t helpful, isn’t it?”

“I was calibrated at 5.3k and now I’m calibrated at 6.6k MMR.”

“I solely almost use just pings and the chat wheel. Predominately, now I don’t care if I get muted. You don’t need to write an essay to communicate with my team.” He also rids the excuse of not being able to play effectively because you are muted. The usage of the Chat Wheel and concise pings is sufficient enough to communicate a gank, Roshan attempt, etc.”

Nobody is stuck at an MMR they don't deserved to be in. If they are, why don’t they just play better so people around you can win?

“Don’t give up too early is another thing to consider. I have won games where we had Mega Creeps, behind 20k gold. Don’t give up early.”

“The great thing about being at a lower MMR, is that when you climb the MMR you will have the chance to be paired with someone who has extremely high MMR. Those people will be more try hard than anybody on your team and will focus on winning. I don’t get that luxury. I currently get lower MMR teammates, and the higher I climb, the worse teammates I get. I’m jealous because you can get better and learn from players, while I do not.’
