A PLACE FOR ALL
REBINDING & RENEWING THE SOCIAL FABRIC OF OUR DOWNTOWN
Our society is composed of an intangible social fabric that bounds countless connections and relationships of people from different backgrounds together. Our downtown seeks to be ‘a place for all’, yet the realities on the ground are considerably far from this utopian vision. Parallel worlds between the rich and the poor run side by side with little overlaps and interactions. Has our social fabric gone frayed? Are its edges unravelling and paying heed to a capitalistic dogmatic society?

The project is optimistic that we can still mend the holes in our wornout social fabric. It seeks to re-imagine how we can bind spaces into a cohesive fabric that provides for the people.
Through an urban living room concept, users will be able to form their own personal bubble while being able to socialise with others. Spaces are externalised to encourage spontaneous participation from all users. They are placed adjacent to existing pathways across the site and are left transparent and visible to pedestrian traffic. Throughout the form, the central axis is left cleared to allow for a continuous synchronous view of all active spaces. The unobstructed views aim to help foster a cohesive atmosphere.
Spaces are operated as pixels that can adapt to the needs and grow with the community through time. The project aspires to provide a common platform where all individuals are treated as equals. With externalised spaces, it hopes to provide an opportunity to spark engagement and break down existing barriers between different groups. Over time, it seeks to rebind the social fabric with renewed stitches to architecturally heal divisions and provide a space that indeed is ‘a place for all’.
