CULT DESIGN SINGAPORE
Completed Under Paperplane Architects
Along the heart of Singapore’s buzzing Chinatown district sits the Australian furniture firm’s first physical presence in Asia. From the outset, it was crucial to emphasise the firm’s Australian roots while delicately negotiating its’ presence in a local conservation shophouse.

Inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Australia, the ceiling feature takes notions from Australia’s tallest range, the Blue Mountains. The topography of the range was translated into fabric elements. The juxtaposition of the harsh rock contours against a soft textile medium, formed a reciprocal link between the firm’s Australian background and its furnitures
While the shophouse space was limited, spatial flexibility to display the products was provided with the use of movable fabric screens inserted throughout the store. With a slight push or tug, the store could be easily recompartmentalised to create a different spatial experience.
The once worn-out shophouse was re-imagined into a space that interplays the traditional, the contemporary and the timeless. All of which are the design ethos of the store - Cult Design.
