MORT MODERN A Type Book
Assigned to create a type book about a typeface using Adobe InDesign, I chose Riley Cran’s Mort Modern. I found Mort Modern’s variety of styles and playful nature to be captivating and knew that I would have fun creating a book about it. My type book showcases all aspects of the typeface including its weights and styles, letters and numbers, anatomy, and inspiration.

YAWN MAGAZINE
A Mini-Zine
When I was assigned to create my own mini-zine using Adobe InDesign, I immediately knew to focus it around my clothing brand, YAWN. I used this as an opportunity to showcase my illustrations, inserting them onto multiple pages as well as making up the cover. I interviewed myself, showcased my clothing designs in a fictional “seasonal preview”, created an advertisement for my friend’s clothing brand, created a required advertisement for Johnson & Wales University, and wrote a researched article about the effect the fashion industry has on our environment.

PROVIDENCE CURRENCY A Currency Design
Given the task of creating a fictional currency for Providence Rhode Island using Adobe Photoshop, I got to really experiment with design. Currency design is something that I had never approached before. I used fun colors, bold type, a simple yet abstract layout, and original photography to create my unique take on a currency for Providence.

JAY DEE A.K.A. KING DILLA An Album Cover & Posters
When I was assigned to redesign an album cover and create two posters for a musical artist using Adobe Photoshop, I was lucky to be assigned the late J Dilla; an artist that I am already a huge fan of. I needed to create a poster promoting the song 651, a poster promoting a fictional tour for the album Jay Dee A.K.A. King Dilla, and new cover artwork for the album. I looked to the artist for inspiration and took the two things he’s best known for; his use of records and his famous AKAI MPC 3000 drum machine. I recreated the drum machine using Adobe Photoshop and prominently featured it on the album cover and the tour poster for that album.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
A Holiday Card & Wrapping Paper Given the task of using Adobe Illustrator to create a card and matching wrapping paper for a holiday of my choice, I immediately knew I wanted to choose Halloween. Halloween seemed to me one of the least obvious choices, as I don’t think Halloween cards and wrapping paper are common. This allowed me to create something entirely new, something that’s not compared to things that are already out there. I created a pattern of Halloween-themed characters for the wrapping paper and used them on the card along with themed colors and imagery.

HELVETICA & PROSPECTUS
A Set Of Type Posters
In my opinion, creating a poster about a typeface is one of the best ways to showcase it. I was assigned to create two type posters, for different typefaces, using Adobe Illustrator. I chose Helvetica for my first one since it’s a typeface that I have been a fan of for a while, a typeface I wanted to experiment with, and a typeface that allows for some high-contrast style. For my second poster I chose Dave Bailey’s Prospectus that he made Lost Type Co-Op in 2016. I chose this typeface because it’s one of my favorite serif typefaces, it has a very unique and interesting style, and it has a huge variety of weights.

YAWN WEBSTORE
An Online Clothing Store In 2016 I started my own clothing company called YAWN. Since then I have been making shirts, sweatshirts, stickers, and skateboard griptape. When I received the assignment to create a clothing webstore with original products using WordPress and CSS I knew immediately I would create a site for my company. I knew this would be a good opportunity to design a site with more control, since my current site doesn’t allow me as much control over the design. Also, this would give me the opportunity to showcase my own personal style, showcase some of the designs that I’ve made over the years, and while further develop my content management system skills in WordPress.

HOTEL CLIMB
A Hotel Site Design When I was assigned to create a concept for a boutique hotel and design a home page for it with HTML and CSS, I came up with the idea of a hotel in New York’s Catskill Mountains for people who like the outdoors and hiking. I decided to name it Hotel Climb and used Earthy tones. I created this theme of using rounded boxes since they look more organic than sharp corners.

ASCEND
An App Design Continuing the narrative of my Hotel Climb project, I was given the task of creating an app to be used by the hotel’s guests using HTML and CSS. I named the app Ascend, to keep with the hiking theme. I decided for the app to have features like room information, a place to check out, a hiking log, an event schedule, a place to share photos, and a place to make a spa reservation. I used Earthy tones, a soft and clean interface, and language that communicates the theme while evoking positive feelings.
