We are one big melting pot. diverse as we can be, this cultural remix doesn’t only shape a new breed, it also gives us the opportunity to self-identify. To feel at home wherever we want.
Self-ID’ing doesn’t necessarily mean sticking to your ethnic roots. It’s is adding new roots as ingredients, and help stir this melting pot. Because we are products of our environment.

REPPIN’ (IN THE) CITY – slang for represent (in the) city, symbolizes standing up for your self identified roots. It’s a new way of identifying yourself – self-ID’ing – and choosing your own representation. Because one may be born and raised in Amsterdam, but feels right at home in Berlin and identifies herself as a ‘Berliner’.

We’re COSMO hairstyling, founded in 1984. We have 74 salons in The Netherlands, five of them in our lovely capital city: Amsterdam. Our mission is just as simple as it is complicated. why everyones’hair is every color of the rainbow
Bleach! Because once upon a time there was a land where girls and boys walked around with boring black, mousy brown, and dirty blonde hair. That was until Bleach exploded like a glitter bomb showering east London with all the colors of the rainbow. She is an influential hair stylist and a visionary colourist. Her creativity has seen her style shoots for amazing fashion publications, namely British Vogue, i-D and Dazed and in 2010 she co-founded cult hair salon Bleach. It all started in her kitchen and soon spread out to her living room, where she continue to have the salon for a while. Bleach had a few previous names too: Heartbreak Hair was one of them. “It takes like three hours to get your hair bleached, so there would be a lot of girls talking about their boyfriends breaking up with them”. When Bleach took off and started to become popular, all these girls, who had never dyed their hair, were coming in and asking for green and blue hair. They had no clue about taking care of it post-color. That’s why she compiled all the hair tips and tricks into a bible: the Bleach Bible. “Because if you wanna have bright purple hair and keep it long, it’s actually quite hard and you really have to take care of it.”
“I use Sharpies and felt tips - color markers - in my hair too. Probably not very good for my hair to be honest!”

the pretzel braids We love combining roots and this one is one of our favourite hairstyles. Inspired by the cleanness and details of Asian fine China, and native because somehow braids always make us think of the native Americans. Our model said it the best “I feel like a modern day Pocahontas”. The outfit helped a little with that vision of course. These braids are the first of the many techniques to come. Our new found hair guru has styled the hair of cool girls like Joan Smalls, Azealia Bank’s and Vashtie Kola, but for this hairstylist it is not about the famous manes she has tamed, it is about making girls feel good through hairs tansformative powers. Meet Illy Lussiano. When it comes to hair Illy stands behind Bob Marley’s mantra: “It’s my identity”. It’s all about authenticity: “If you’re going to be inspired by the look, that’’s awesome, but it’s important to use someone who is skilled and well versed in the culture or don’t do it at all. Why have a knock off when you can have the real thing?” Hair is a key component to the person you are or who you want to become. Haircuts & actual hairstyles are hot in hair: “I feel like there is a new generation of young women and men who are beginning to embrace themselves and who they want to become and many of them haven’t had a real haircut. A DEEP CONDITION MASK FOR EVERY HAIR TYPE
AVOCADO is rich in fatty acids making it very moisturizing for your hair. A very ripe avocado is great. Slice the avocado lenghtwise, remove the pit and scrape out the flesh inside. The amount avocado depends on the length of hair, but half is usually enough. EGGS can be a great source of protein for your hair. The yolk is rich in fats and proteins which is extremely moisturizing. The whites contain bacteria eating enzymes that cleanse hair and scalp from unwanted oils. For normal hair use the whole egg to condition, use just the yolks to moisturize dry/brittle hair and use the whites to treat oily hair. HONEY works great for damaged hair. One to two tablespoons. 1. Place all the ingredients in a bowl. 2. Whip it together: by hand causes lumps, so I reccomend using a mixer. 3. Apply from scalp to tips and really massage it in to your hair. 4. Let it set for about 20/30 minutes. 5. Rinse out with cool water to avoid cooking the egg in your strands. 6. Then shampoo and continue your own styling routine!

A DEEP CONDITION MASK FOR EVERY HAIR TYPE
BANANA is the remedy for thinning, dry or frizzy hair. A ripe banana is perfect. YOGHURT softens hair to comb through knots and tangles more effectively. It’s a great cleanser, helps eliminate frizz and makes the hair shiny and soft. Use as many that works for you and the lenght of your hair. FYI, it’s also great to apply plain yoghurt by itself to the skin to close pores, diminish scars and reduce acne! HONEY works great for damaged hair. One to two tablespoons. 1. Place all the ingredients in a bowl. 2. Blend it together: by hand causes lumps, so I reccomend using a mixer. 3. Apply from scalp to tips and take extra time to focus on the ends. 4. Wrap your hair with a plastic bag or shower cap to trap the heat inside. 5. Let it set for about 20/30 minutes. 6. Rinse thoroughly with warm water, shampoo and continue your own styling routine!

A DEEP CONDITION MASK FOR EVERY HAIR TYPE
MAYONNAISE will restore moisture and vitality to your strands of hair. Purchase some mayonnaise at your local grocery store. It doesn’t matter which one, no need to get the low-fat stuff, because it’s just going in your hair, ha! OLIVE OIL is a great way to strenghten and moisturize your hair. It will leave a amazing shine behind too. One to two tablespoons. HONEY works great for damaged hair. One to two tablespoons. 1. Place all the ingredients in a bowl. 2. Prep the mixture. Mix it together to one substance. 3. Scoop some mayonnaise out of the bowl and apply from scalp to tips. 4. Wrap your hair with a plastic bag or shower cap to trap the heat inside. Heat opens the pores and allows the treatment to penetrate strands further ans thus work better. 4. Let it set for about 20/30 minutes. 5. Wash it out of your hair with shampoo. You might need to shampoo a few times before you get rid of all of the mayonnaise. 6. Continue your own styling routine!

the totem bun Inspired by totem poles, this bun is as high as it can be. It’s your own holy place on your head, a new tribe sign. Or just a bun. The height depends on the length of your hair, but we do work with hairpieces for more volume. Also the faux bangs are a nice touch to the hairstyle for those who’d like to try out bangs, but are cautious to cut them right away. Great for a fancy Nancy night out, or just a fun day in the city.

the urban turban Is a way of wearing the traditional head wrap in a non traditional way. Wrapping a piece of fabric around the head is not specific to any culture, but the way you wrap it is. It can be worn in various styles and wrapped in many ways. We try to style it any way you like.
