Preface to the project Switzerland and India. Switzerland and India share numerous economic and bilateral connections for over 50 years which are reflected in a large number of agreements and treaties within fields of economics, science, medicine, arts and financial aid. A major part of Indo-Swiss relationships are economic and political in nature, involving 19 bi-lateral agreements. In the last two decade a visible number of social and cultural partnerships have taken place between Switzerland and India. Both nations have a growing urban youth populous, whose primary interest and awareness is towards arts, music, film and entertainment. Since 2001, increased Indo-Swiss cultural and artistic activity has taken place with the aid from institutional, academic and cultural organisations. Increased focus on photography, dance, theatre, music and experimental arts create a spark of cultural energy with the involved artists, institutions as well as the creators of projects, showcases and events. Creative Endeavors and Resources that remain 'unconnected and hidden' ? Yet outside the reach of institutional, academic and state funded programs, what lacks is the actualization of a sustainable and independent system for artists, musicians and involved professionals. A mechanism to continuously create and exchange works, resources, ideas and avenues of creativity and performance is clearly the need for cultural growth and balance. Many such creative endeavors and resources remain 'unconnected and hidden' in both nations. Further, institutional support can be narrow and sporadic, mostly remaining outside the emerging artist’s reach and know-how. The true scope for emerging Indian and Swiss artists to collaborate in realms of digital culture, multimedia, electronic music, film and performance based arts remains virtually untapped. Why ? What is Missing ?

Actual Cultural Continuity Between Artists and Countries. This network and cooperation can be achieved via sharing creative resources, technical skills, professional experience and regional connections between Switzerland and India. Artists from India and Switzerland create a bi-lateral tie to discover, share and exploit new markets, audiences and creative prospects. A project based on innovative and mutually beneficial cultural cooperation. The need for sustainable artistic cooperation between Switzerland and India is vital for a cultural continuity between the two countries.

Opportunity inside the Challenge ! Switzerland and India are clearly diverse in terms of size, population, language and distribution of cultural resources. The two nations are vastly different in their existing music industry as well as the index of electronic arts and music. The two regions also present new geographic and cultural vistas for emerging artists and professionals allover the world. This very cultural diversity and social contrast between the two countries provides the opportunity inside the challenge. The fact, that artists and musicians from India and Switzerland creatively coverage to discover and share new audiences, new cultural atmospheres and new geography is a clear advantage for both. The prime focus of this project, over given time, aims at creating a new Indo-Swiss cultural synergy. A collective system which is managed, powered and curated by a body of artists, creators and professionals from both nations. Building a sustainable framework of cooperation between Swiss and Indian artists : Presently and more so in the future. For the first time, an eclectic group of musicians, professional curators and production agencies from Switzerland and India are joining resources, ideas and sharing oppurtunities. With a vested interest to invigorate Indo-Swiss cultural markets and regions for emerging artists and professionals.

Serving as an Executive Trustee and Core Co-Curator with The AeA, I've been part of a growing global multi-disciplinary community of over 3000 cutting-edge artists, scientists and performers. As an independent curator, I have explored several questions I’ve had as an individual by finding answers in creating frameworks of inter-disciplinary artistic research and production. I’ve also been actively involved in public space projects and researching and developing sub-cultural practices in Mumbai, the city I live in. Most of my work is based in spontaneous creation and expression and usually involves fusing new people to create unknown situations and engineering new collective imaginations of beauty and its future. http://.theaea.org http://.blackoutfestival.com -
