Doug Allan – Life behind the Lens

An Audience with General Sir Mike Jackson

An Audience with Ann Widdecombe

Grabbed by a walrus, pawed by a polar bear, caressed by a whale... multiaward winning wildlife photographer, cameraman, explorer, Doug hosts an evening of enthralling personal recollections from his travels around the world as one of the world’s leading wildlife cameramen. Doug never fails to entertain with his exciting stories, Scottish charm and warm sense of humour.

The former head of the British Army General Sir Mike Jackson is known for his tough talking and uncompromising style. British generals appear to be getting the taste for speaking the truth in public, a refreshing antidote to most leading politicians. His auto-biography, recently published, pulls few punches and gives a soldier’s commentary on recent conflicts – both military and political. Sir Mike retired from the Army in 2006 after 45 years.

How often can you hear a former Shadow Home Secretary revealing what life is really like at the centre (well OK, right of centre) of British politics? She had a formidable reputation in parliament and remains relentlessly outspoken. However, live on stage Ann is engaging, entertaining and refreshingly down to earth. An unmissable evening, which definitely has ‘something of the night’ about it.

La Vie en Rose (12A)

In Paris, the aristocratic and intellectual Philippe is a quadraplegic millionaire who is interviewing candidates for the position of his carer, Up steps Driss, a rough-edged ex-con from the Projects, to change everyone’s lives for ever. Senegalese actor Omar Sy delivers a sublimely funny and touching performance (for which he won the French Oscar) and based on a true story,

A correctional school for orphans and problematic boys is run with iron fist by the cruel director Rachin – until the arrival of former music teacher Clément Mathieu, who sees the opportunity to transform the lives of the boys and everyone around them through the power of music. Set in the difficult postwar year of 1949, this is an Oscarnominated feelgood drama of redemption.

The multi-Oscar winning life story of the Little Sparrow, Édith Piaf, from her traumatic childhood to her discovery as a street singer and rapid rise to fame, all told in a rich, kaleidoscopic cinematic style which should only be seen on the big screen. Cotillard is utterly convincing as Piaf, and of course, the legendary music is completely irresistible.

After more than a decade in the UK, the German Comedy Ambassador’s assimilation is not so complete that he hasn’t lost his sense of wonderment at the foibles of British society. Expect a crash course in personal accountability and have a right old laugh at the same time! Wunderbar!

It sounds like a wrong tennis score, but 2015 is a big year for one of the UK’s best loved comedians. Fred looks forward to life after the referendum of 2014. He’ll also probably look sideways at politics and sport, and without sounding like a newspaper, there will undoubtedly be a colour supplement with a look at ‘celebrity’.

A no-nonsense comedian who specialises in funny nonsense, coming to Camberley after yet another sold-out Edinburgh run. He has joined Frank Skinner’s Absolute Radio Show every Saturday morning from 8am. A regular on 8 out of 10 Cats and Mock the Week, and has appeared on Soccer A.M and Live at the Comedy Store.

Officially The Most Dangerous Man on Saturday Morning Television, Chris makes a welcome return to Camberley! Chris starred in the second series of BBC Two’s sitcom Hebburn, and is a regular on Celebrity Juice, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Sweat the Small Stuff, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff for the Beeb.
