Walks and Events Diary Welcome to our latest events brochure. The Business Services Team welcomes you to come along, join in and get active whilst enjoying the beautiful coutryside of Surrey Heath. Surrey Heath Borough Council manages over 254 hectares of openspace. The following pages offer you the opportunity to explore some of the areas we have on our doorstep with some fun activities along the way. We have colour coded the brochure to help distinguish between our events:

Mytchett Ranges – Moderate – 1.5 hours A walk along the canal, through army ranges and beautiful SSSI protected woodland.

Bisley – Gentle – 1 hour A circular walk that takes in woodland, fields and quiet lanes.

Meet at Shaftesbury Road Car Park, Bisley, GU24 9ER, near to the Hen and Chicken P.H. Please do not park in bays marked with blue as these should be kept clear to allow emptying of the recycling banks. Alternatively park in Shaftesbury Road.

NEW! Horseshoe Lake – Moderate – 2.5 hours Starting at Horseshoe Lake (destination of the Blackwater Park walk) to explore the ‘next’ section of the Blackwater Valley Path. Choice of routes. Refreshments at either Eversley or Eversley Cross.

22nd Oct Swinley Forest Trek – Challenging – 2.5 hours Tues An hours trek through Swinley Forest to The Lookout for 10am refreshments before the return journey.

Wildmoor Heath – Moderate – 3 hours Enjoy a choice of walks through heathland, meadow and woodland, taking in Wildmoor Heath, the Devil’s Highway and Broadmoor. Now calls at Costa Coffee, Crowthorne.

30th Oct Blackwater Park – Gentle – 1 hour Weds Riverside walk through woods and meadows with wildlife 10am spotting.

Late Autumn in the woods! Join a Greenspace officer, for a guided nature walk at Chobham Place Woods. Enjoy the colour of the Beech and Chestnuts before they drop their leaves. Also learn about the history of the woods and some of its wildlife inhabitants. PRE-BOOKING ESSENTIAL. For more information call 01276 707166. Sorry, no dogs. Cost £2 per person. Basingstoke Canal – Moderate – 3 hours A tranquil walk beside the Basingstoke Canal, approaching the refreshment stop at the Swan Inn, Ash Vale from the ‘other’, more rural direction. Stealthy steps may be rewarded by the sight of a graceful heron taking flight.

19th Nov Minley Lake – Gentle – 1.5 hours Tues A circular walk along mostly man made tracks, through 10am trees and skirting the lake.

20th Nov Basingstoke Canal – Gentle – 1 hour Weds Follow the peaceful canal towpath up to the lock-keepers 10am cottage with wildlife spotting.

Swinley Forest Lookout - Moderate - 2/3 hours Explore different trails in the tranquillity of Swinley Forest. Option of refreshments at the end. Parking charges apply at the Lookout. Free on-road parking in Ringmead (RG12 7ZU) and follow signposted footpath to the Lookout.

Candlelit Carols Join us and welcome in the start of the festive season, with carols in the park led by Surrey Heath Singers. This is a free event but refreshments and candles will be available to purchase. Refreshments available from 5.30pm, carols 6-7pm.

Help clear young invasive pines from one of our precious and endangered heathlands and you can take one (or more!) home at the end of the session! Our trees are less dense and shapely than their shop-bought cousins but do not drop their needles! Tools and gloves, hot drinks and maybe even biscuits will be provided. Cost: £5 per tree

Blackwater Park – Moderate – 3 hours Follow the meandering Blackwater Valley Path from the Meadows to Horseshoe Lake, stopping off for refreshments at a local pub on the return leg.

11th Dec Chobham Place Woods – Gentle – 1 hour Weds Walk through woods with a historical significance and 10am enjoy wildlife spotting.

14th Dec - Festive Fun! 15th Dec Come along to the Heathland Visitor Centre at Lightwater Sat - Country Park and take part in the Christmas treasure hunt Sun (outdoors) and on your return collect your rewards. Also have a go at making a Christmas card or hat. Arrive anytime between 11 am & 3 pm

Family event. Cost £3 per child, accompanying adults free.

Basingstoke Canal – Challenging - 3 .5 hours Follow the Basingstoke Canal towards Brookwood, passing the 14 Deepcut locks. After a quick coffee stop, undulating return via Mytchett Ranges and Tunnel Hill.

Auld Lang Stride – Moderate – 2 hours Come and join us in seeing out the old year and welcoming in the new with a charming and rejuvenating walk along the Basingstoke Canal, through SSSI woodland and back to Frimley Lodge Park.

ECO-AEROBICS! Burn off that Crimbo Pud!! Join us for an afternoon of conservation work on the endangered heathland of Turf Hill, clearing the invading pine saplings that threaten to smother the precious heather. It will be great exercise but you can work at your own pace! Tools and gloves, hot drinks and maybe even biscuits will be provided! Event takes place at Turf Hill (opp. Blackstroude Lane West) off Guildford Road, Lightwater.
