Tom Friedman is a conceptual artist born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1965. He received a BFA in graphic illustration from Washington University in St. Louis in 1988 and a MFA in sculpture from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1990. Known for his use of unconventional materials, such as packing peanuts, toilet paper or his own hair, Friedman challenges our perceptions of art and its boundaries. Friedman has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary in Chicago, among others. His work has also been included in major group exhibitions at the São Paulo Biennial, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, SITE Santa Fe, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
