OCTOBER 2019 UPCOMING EVENTS A Letter From the President October, what a wonderful time to prepare for the last quarter of the year. We have three months left in 2019 to continue to make it a great year. It is important to take into account the time of year, acknowledge where you are in your life/ career/business, and gauge your productivity levels moving forward. You have to look at Martha VandeLeest the big picture, and set realistic expectations for yourself. With the holidays upon us, it is easy to write off the next three months. However, it does not have to be that way. It is important to take into account the time of year, acknowledge where you are and gauge your productivity levels moving forward. You have to look at the big picture, and set realistic expectations for yourself.

Three Ways to Make the Most of the Last Three Months of the Year 1) Tie up loose ends: What one or two things have you been resolving to do forever but just can’t seem to finish? Now is a great time to clear the decks and wrap up all those projects and to-dos that always seem to get pushed to the back-burner. 2) Focus on relationships: Instead of seeing the 4th quarter and the busy holiday season as less time and less productivity, use them as an “excuse” to get in touch and open up opportunities for stronger connections and collaborations. This is a great time to connect with former colleagues, and any other business contacts you would like to keep in touch with—it will not be awkward since this is one of the most social seasons of the year. 3) Manage your time: Use your schedule as an indicator of when it is time to hustle, and when it is time to let it flow. Instead of trying to evenly pace your work over the next three months, identify a few periods of time where you can do “sprints”—times where you can kick focused work into high gear and make a lot of progress in a short period of time. When you are “off-sprint,” enjoy the time to celebrate what you achieved and get much-needed rest. Remember look to the Chamber to help you achieve your goals as you can develop relationships and discover new things each month. from the desk of the executive director Can you believe we’re already moving into fourth quarter? Time is just flying by. Although I’m sad to see Summer leave us, I’m enjoying the crisp mornings with a hot cup of coffee, Fall colors and getting together with friends and family to watch football games. Fall might just be my most favorite time of year! September was a busy month for the Chamber, celebrating Chamber month with a lot of opportunity to connect with members at our Breakfast Open House, Wine & Cheese Open House and Member Appreciation Brat Fry. Thanks to all who were able to join us and celebrate!

October will prove to be equally as busy. Senator Johnson will be joining us to kick off Manufacturing month at our First Friday Forum on October 4th. This program will be at 3 Sheeps Brewing from 11:30–1:00 pm and lunch will be served. 3 Sheeps is thrilled to offer tours of their operation directly following the program for those who would like to learn more. We also have manufacturing tours scheduled throughout the month of October with some of our other Chamber partners. These are a great way to learn more about manufacturing and grow an appreciation for the hard work put into items we use every day. Please check out our website to learn more and register for any of these events. We’ve put together a phenomenal line up of speakers for our annual Workforce Development Symposium on Tuesday, October 8th and we hope you can join us. As a County we continue to look for ways to attract and retain top talent to Sheboygan County and studies have proven that culture in a particular workplace plays a very large role. Being inclusive, understanding differences and working together more effectively and efficiently is what we will tackle on October 8th from 7:30 – 11:30 am at Pine Hills Country Club. Our Coastal Young Professionals will again be hosting their largest fundraiser of the year at Oktoberfeast 2019 on Thursday October 10th at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. Proceeds of this event are used to support programming opportunities for our Young Professionals throughout Sheboygan County. Back by popular demand our second Countdown 2 Connect: Speed Networking event will take a place at Breaking Bread Banquets on Wednesday October 16th. Space is limited for this event, as we want all participants to get the most of their experience and build meaningful relationships. James Cash Penney, founder of JC Penney said, “Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.” The Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce is committed to providing value to our members, increasing economic vitality and the well-being of the business climate in Sheboygan County through, providing opportunities in Professional Development, Relationship Building, Governmental Affairs, Workforce Development and Young Professional Development. We are truly Better Together! Deidre

UPDATE FROM Workforce Development We are only a week away from our annual Workforce Development Symposium, which will focus on the relationship between culture and its impact on leadership. We all have different leadership and working styles and it’s only when we begin to understand one another’s differences that we can create a culture of inclusiveness that is conducive to overall success. This year’s symposium is very diverse as it focuses on the many different reasons our workforce has become so diverse. We will hear from representatives across all levels of leadership and positions, creating an environment for attendees from across Alexis Hardin-Beebe the spectrum of the workforce. By the end of the symposium, we hope you are able to take away valuable new tools to use in your work environment. Change only happens when we begin to accept and learn from one another. This type of symposium only happens once a year, so take the opportunity to join us by registering on our website. Alexis
UPDATE FROM Coastal Young Professionals Network As we wrap up this year’s Chamber of Commerce Month, our Coastal Young Professionals continue to work hard on planning their annual fundraiser- OktoberFeast on Thursday, October 10 at John Michael Kohler Arts Center. As the Coastal YP’s work together to plan this wonderful event, they experience deep engagement, inspiration, connection, and belonging. This annual fundraiser is a wonderful way to bring the community together and connect, explore a variety of wonderful culinary experiences from our 12 participating restaurants, while supporting programming for Young Professionals throughout Sheboygan County. We will also be joined by 3 Sheeps Brewing Company with a sampling of brews along with Tonic Roots on music. This event is open to the public (21 and over) and tickets are available for purchase on our website. Don’t miss out; this is a fun event and the Coastal YP’s would love your support!

Coming up in the month of October is our Workforce Development Symposium, OktoberFeast, Countdown 2 Connect and preparing for our new 2020 Sheboygan County Community Guide! Scott Kuehn We are accepting ads for County Community Guide, year of the Ryder Cup! Ad pricing will be the same as last year. We’re looking for all of our members to get in on the publication our community members and visitors will be looking at in 2020!
