Making the Transition from Individual Contributor to Leader of Others Team members are often promoted because they excel at being individual contributors and have a high degree of technical expertise. Neither are necessarily required to lead other people and unless we are intentional about developing the leadership skills of highproducing staff, they will become frustrated, disillusioned and be less than stellar in their leadership role. This does not have to be the reality we face in our organizations.
