Summer fun in Sheboygan County!
Summer fun in Sheboygan County!
“The month of August is a reminder that change is inevitable, but growth is optional.” – Tony Robbins

Time flies when you’re having fun! Where has this summer gone? As we enter August, it’s surprising how quickly July passed us by. We’re having fun planning and preparing programs and events to finish out 2024. August is a busy time for Chamber staff and Ambassadors as we are finalizing details for the Annual Golf Outing on August 28th. With only a few slots remaining, I encourage you to register soon if you’d like to join us for this year’s event. We’re also seeking raffle and auction item donations. If you are interested in contributing, please reach out to Anna Toman or any one of our dedicated Ambassadors. A portion of proceeds from the raffle help fund scholarship opportunities in our local community.
Our annual summer intern and co-op program has concluded for the year. We had a wonderful group join us this year and hope they enjoyed their time explored Sheboygan County as much as we enjoyed hosting them. The goal of this program is to showcase everything Sheboygan County has to offer, with the hope that some of our visitors may choose to make it their permanent home after graduation. If your organization hosts intern and co-op’s, please do not hesitate to reach out and let us help you get them involved. We also welcome this group to participate in our Young Professional programming and stay engaged and grow their roots locally.
Although August marks the end of summer vacation, we’re looking forward to several exciting events and experiences in September to keep the momentum going. Watch for “Save the Date” announcements for the Workforce Development Symposium, Oktoberfeast, and the Athena Leadership Awards luncheon. Nominations for the Athena Leadership Awards will open soon, so start preparing to nominate someone you know that is honoring and empowering leaders in Sheboygan County.

How is your ‘Farm Team’?
Does anyone else remember John Jaha? Drafted by the Brewers in 1984, Jaha played as their first baseman and designated hitter from 1992 to 1998. Mentioned in the April 1991 issue of National Geographic in the article “A Season in the Minors,” Jaha stood out as a promising talent. He had made it through many seasons of minor league baseball and was considered a good prospect for promotion to the ‘bigs’. All others never made it!
In recent years, the Brewers’ farm system has been successful because of good scouting in many places. Rookie Jackson Churio is an outstanding example of scouting, player development and more.
Are you considering ways to build a strong future workforce? Perhaps you’re looking at job candidates still in school and planning to develop them through youth co-op programs, apprenticeships, job-shadowing, or internships. Offering scholarships with incentives for long-term employment after they earn a post-secondary degree can be a great strategy.
The Manufacturing Roundtable on Thursday, August 29 will help you understand more about local programs to help you build your ‘Farm Team’. Email me at john@sheboygan.org to receive the agenda.
Hello everyone!
Welcome to August— “August is like the Sunday of Summer.” (Unknown)
Let’s make the most of what’s left!

As we bid farewell to summer, so does our Intern/Co-op program. We wrapped up this year with a fantastic beach day at North Beach. Interns from all over the county had a great time soaking up the sun, relaxing by the lake, and connecting with each other as their time in Sheboygan draws to a close. It was the perfect send-off!
Next up, Leadership Sheboygan County and Junior Leadership are gearing up to start. The program kicks off with orientation on August 8th, and then the real excitement begins. If you or someone you know might be a great fit for this program, let me know. There’s always next year for those who miss out this time!
The Young Professionals have a busy month ahead. We’re kicking things off with a Behind the Scenes tour at Meals on Wheels on August 7th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This amazing non-profit does so much for our community. We’re also teaming up with Kohler Young Professionals for two summer events. First up, we’re bringing back the popular Birdies and Bubbles at the Kohler Baths, with tee times starting at 12:00 p.m. for just $25 and free mini golf. Reserve your time now! Then, join us for a beach cleanup and bonfire social on August 24th from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the beach just east of 7th and Indiana Ave. Let’s have some fun and enjoy the last of summer together. Don’t forget to register online for these events!
I hope you’re making the most of every summer moment left!

Our ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign is growing at a strong pace! We’ve been reaching out to plant closures in nearby counties to offer support, and this week, we’ll be connecting with veterans at a career fair in northern Illinois. With several thousand job openings in Sheboygan County, we are continually brainstorming new ways to connect and provide our transition resources to those considering a move.
