JUNE 2020
A Letter From the President As spring slowly moves towards summer and the state’s economy begins to re- open it is my sincere hope that you are all coping as best as you can and are gearing up to get back to work. Clearly, it will be a systematic process and we need to continue to pay close attention to public health guidance, but it is time to do what we can to get things going again.

Deidre has worked hard to create a phased in Chamber re-opening plan as the staff returns to their on-site offices in June. This phased in process will include the “Zoom Conference Calls” throughout the month of June. As we, all know the one-step at a time approach will help us to continue to move forward.
from the desk of the executive director “Act as if what you do makes a difference. IT DOES.” William James. The excitement is certainly growing, the weather getting warmer, businesses reopening their doors, seeing family and friends again. It has been a rough couple of months, but I think we’re all ready for summer and better days ahead. Over the past couple of months, I’ve have Deidre Martinez certainly had to strengthen my patience skill set, I also more clearly understand the importance of kindness and grace and how these three attributes create stronger communities. Sheboygan County exemplifies these things in our everyday lives. Over the past couple of months, we’ve rallied around our teachers to assist in teaching our students outside of the traditional classroom, we’ve rallied around our healthcare workers as they’ve worked diligently to help our sick neighbors in need, we’ve rallied around our front line workers in manufacturing and grocery stores, we’ve rallied around our nonprofits to provide resources and we’ve certainly rallied around our local businesses to support them, as best we can during this difficult time. from the desk of the executive director (Continued) Now we begin the next phase and patience, kindness and grace becomes even more important. Have patience, as we all learn to live in the “new normal” whatever that may be, be patient with yourself, your friends, family and coworkers and definitely with our local businesses. We are all in this together and need to support one another, ALL the time. Be kind and give grace, this is a different time, it’s confusing and we’ve all been through the ringer. Kindness wins every single time. William James, an American philosopher and psychologist in the 1800’s said, “Act as if what you do makes a difference. IT DOES.” How very right he was, we all have the power to make a difference, with our actions and our words. Let’s continue to work together, to support each other and have the patience for one another, even when our beliefs don’t align. We’re excited to kick off our annual Intern/Co-op summer program during the second week of June, to support interns and co-ops that our Sheboygan County partners have brought on board. We will provide programming for those visiting us in Sheboygan, as well as virtual options for interns that will be working remotely. This has been a great partnership with local businesses, to give our visitors an opportunity to learn about and experience all that Sheboygan County has to offer, therefore attracting and retaining talent. If you would like to learn more about this program or how to participate, please send an email to molly@sheboygan.org. With that, the Chamber team is thrilled to be back in the office, we will, however, continue to host all meetings virtually through the month of June and reevaluate as July approaches. We’ve got a lot of planning to do…there are some exciting events taking place late August through November starting with our Best Under 40 Celebration, then our Annual Golf Outing, Member Brat Fry, Oktoberfeast, YP Week and of course our Community & Business Expo was rescheduled for October 31st, so the Chamber team will be very busy throughout the summer. We hope you’ll join in on the fun.
