Board President, Mark Schuh September 2021 Chamber Update - Watch Now!

From the desk of the executive director “Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.” – Henry David Thoreau The month of September is recognized as Chamber of Commerce month and an exciting time for the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate successes and our members. We have a variety of events scheduled throughout the month to bring Chamber members together Deidre Martinez and build stronger relationships. We are kicking off the celebrations on Wednesday, September 1st, by inviting prospective members to join us for wine and cheese and learn more about what it means to be a Chamber member and how it can benefit your business. We invite current Chamber members to bring a nonChamber member friend to this informal event and there may be something in it for you as well! With a variety of additional Chamber celebration events in the works, I encourage you to visit the Chamber calendar at sheboygan.org and register for these fun events.

Ryder Cup is right around the corner and we have already begun to notice many new faces visiting the area. This is our time to shine as a County in front of the whole world! Let us make sure we are putting our best foot forward and biggest smile to welcome our new friends. It is a busy time for all, but we will see great success as a community with so many visitors in our space. With Fall upon us, we are also excited to welcome our 2021 – 2022 Leadership Sheboygan County class. This vibrant group, embarked on their first session in late August and we are pleased to welcome again this year Courtney Booth of Booth Leadership who will help to deliver leadership theory to participants.

ROUNDTABLES MEETINGS:

09.08.21 WORKSITE WELLNESS 09.09.21 STRATEGIC SOURCING

As mentioned previously, we strive to be the best advocate, connector and supplier of information for our Chamber members and were thrilled with the feedback many of you shared with us at the feedback session in July. Our strategic planning journey has officially begun and we look forward to mapping out our next three years and how we can provide the best opportunities for our member businesses and communities. In other exciting news, Sheboygan County has developed a number of Task Forces to develop recommendations as to how ARPA dollars will be spent to tackle some of our largest problems in Sheboygan County, to include workforce development, childcare, social services, affordable housing, transportation and broadband. I am happy to share that I am chairing the workforce development task force and participating in others as well. We have access to a significant financial resource as a community and we want to make sure that our business community has a voice in how these dollars are used. We are also excited to share that Adam Payne; Sheboygan County Administrator will be our October First Friday Forum speaker and will discuss in detail the thought process behind developing these task forces and what we can expect from this undertaking. To learn more about the upcoming event, please click here. Community Guides are now available! We have begun distribution of community guides, but if you are eager for your copy, would like a box to have onsite in your workplace or extra copies to share with your customers let us know and we will get them to you. You are also welcome to visit us at the Chamber office and pick them up. This year a County map is included as the centerfold of this publication to help show off all the wonderful communities that make Sheboygan County a great place to work, live and play. - Deidre

Molly, Coastal YPN Liaison We are gearing up for a fun-filled end of the year with Coastal YPN! Join us for our Welcome and Social on September 2nd at the Sheboygan Biergarten. We will be meeting with the owner of the Sheboygan Biergarten to give us all the information on how it began as well as answering any questions that people may have. This is a perfect event for those who are also needing a refresher or are new to the Coastal YPN group to come and get an in depth knowledge on what we are all about. Register now at Sheboygan.org to ensure you have a spot! We also have the ever-anticipated OktoberFeast coming up in October. This is Coastal’s largest fundraiser for the year with our local restaurateurs. There are many sponsorships still available for this event, if you are interested in helping our cause, please reach out to Scott at scott@sheboygan.org. All of the details for the event are still being ironed out, but if you are a restaurant and are interested in showing off the amazing dishes you create, please reach out to me so we can secure your spot at OktoberFeast to potentially win the Best of OktoberFeast award.

News from THE DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Good day Chamber Nation! Welcome to September of 2021. Chamber of Commerce month! Yes, you can celebrate your Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce all month long! Back in September of 2017, Gov. Scott Walker proclaimed September to be Chamber of Commerce Month in Wisconsin. Here’s a quote from one of our friends in Beaver Dam that sums up the importance of Chambers throughout our wonderful state: “Chambers are central to Wisconsin’s local economies,” said Philip Fritsche, president of the Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce and WCCE Advisory Board Chair. “In most places, the chamber is involved in all major local decision making either as a facilitator or advocate for it’s members.”

Scott Kuehn

If you know a business or friend who is not part of Chamber Nation, please come and learn more about member benefits and involvement on Wednesday, September 1. We’ll be meeting from 4:00-6:30 with current members and new, to network and discuss what your chamber can do for you. If non-members sign up and pay during the event, they will receive a special discount for their first year of membership, so “Let’s get down to business!” Finally, as you know the Chamber Annual Golf outing is quickly approaching and there is still time to join in the fun. Although the hole sponsorships have been closed for quite some time, you can still support your Chamber by sponsoring mulligans, golf and beverage carts or a golf ball sign! The date is Wednesday, September 8th in beautiful Elkhart Lake at the Quit Qui Oc Golf Club & Restaurant and I’d love to see you there! We’ll have the golf ball launcher back and ready to go, the hole sponsors I’m sure will have something up their sleeves when it comes to fun and games, and yes, the weather will be so much better than the past couple of of years! It’s always a great time so don’t be left in the sand trap, swing away, get out and have some fun! Check out the chamber calendar at www.sheboygan.org and make sure you mark the remainder of 2021 for all events coming up later year! Have a terrific month, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or just want to meet for a cup of coffee and chat. Because you know what? We are so much #BETTERTOGETHER!

Reintroduce your Business at the Community & Business Expo! The annual Community & Business Expo will take place on Saturday, October 30th at Sheboygan South High School. It’s a great opportunity to “re-introduce” you/your business to the community after the year we all faced with little to no community exposure. We are currently seeking business owners, start- ups, non-profits, entrepreneurs, sports and recreation organizations and community vendors to fill expo booths. This event is free to the public and will hopefully bring in more than 1,000 spectators and attendees. You do not need to be a Chamber member to have a booth. Although, cost breaks have been established for Chamber members. If you previously signed up for the Expo, please know that your booth space is secured, and you should contact the Chamber to verify your participation again this year. For more information on pricing, please contact Carol at (920) 395-8706 or carol@sheboygan.org Visit our website for booth information.
