ALOHA!!! Editorial
Yes + Camp = Happiness A Writer’s Thoughts By: Deja Tenese Vaughn Being one of only about five writers and a junior camp counselor in training is a very hard job, but just seeing the faces of these girls every day could make even the sourest person smile. This is one of the most loving and forgiving places you will ever encounter in your life. One of the liveliest times of the day is during opening circle because that is when all of our energy is converged into a giant circle of love. We pour music of different languages and cultures out of our souls and into each other’s hearts. Friendships are made so easily and usually are everlasting. These are just a few of the many reasons that make this an amazing place to go to year after year.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT SUMMER CAMP
Project U-Turn Interview with Ms. Jojo By: Deja Tenese Vaughn Coral Gables - Project U-Turn is a program offered by Hope for Miami where a two year partnership engages young people to explore healthy social skill behaviors with friendships and awareness of risky behaviors.
Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens Fieldtrip Review By: Deja Tenese Vaughn Coral Gables - sixty campers enjoyed their first fieldtrip off campus to lush Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens. They enjoyed watching a theatrical production, "Cinderella: A Fractured Fairy Tale" produced by Fantasy Theater Factory." Patience Colbrooke thought the play was "very funny." Especially, "when the fairy godmother and turned Cinderella into a princess." She thought "smaller children enjoyed the silly twist on a Disney classic." As the younger campers enjoyed a tram tour of the beautiful gardens, the older campers had an opportunity to participate in a visual arts project with Museum of Contemporary Art's Women on the Rise program. This six year partnership extends to four sessions at YES Camp in addition to sessions offered in URGENT, Inc's Rites of Passage program for girls offered after school for girls ages 10-17. Women on the Rise program engages critical dialogue on issues in relation to contemporary women's art with an opportunity to create accessible art in multiple genres. Patience Colbrooke enjoyed making "our art projects. I love drawing plants and trees. It made me appreciate plants more for their beauty."
