The AGENDA is what we offer to you; our Discourse that makes us unique. Our Agenda is Performance and we will focus on showing performance through Structure and Complexity, Iconic Meaning and Historic Context.
“THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OPTIMISATION BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY FACTORS TO CONCLUDE, BUT WE CAN CREATE A FORM THAT IS DRIVEN BY A CERTAIN OPTIMISATION. IN A SENSE, IT’S NOT AN OPTIMISED FORM, BUT IT’S DRIVEN BY
BANQ
The Architect of the BANQ Restaurant uses the weakness of the building to make it its strength. BANQ Restaurant makes the unconventional conventional. It enhances the form via making the contour lines visible.
ARCHITECTURE
AS ADISCOURSE
If you want to make something beautiful, focus on one thing.
“HOW DO YOU STANDOUT IN THIS CHAOS? VISUAL STIMULUS, SO WE SENSE WE HAVE TO DO ONE THING AND ONLY ONE THING.” THOMAS HETHERWICK The U.K. Pavilion has been designed by Heatherwick Studio for the Shanghai Expo, and the theme there was, Better City, Better Life and to stand out from the anticipated trend for technology driven pavilions, filled with audiovisual content on screens, projections and speakers. The pavilion exhibits seeds and this was done using fibre optics which responds to light conditions, so unseen movements from the shadows and light to illuminate the pavilion.
The U.K. pavillion optimises one form to make the building Iconic

METROPOL PARASOL J MAYER H
This project is a redevelopment of Plaza de la Encarnacion in Sevilla, which is designed by J Mayer H Architects. This project has become an icon and articulates Sevilla’s role as one of Spain’s most fascinating cultural destinations. The project includes an archaeological site, a farmers market, an elevated plaza, multiple bars and restaurants underneath, and inside the parasols, as well as a panorama terrace on top of the parasols.
“THE FORM OF THE BUILDING WAS INSPIRED BY THE VAULTS OF SEVILLE’S EXPANSIVE CATHEDRAL- I WANTED TO CREATE A ‘CATHEDRAL WITHOUT WALLS’ THAT WOULD BE ‘DRAMATIC’- AND ALSO BY THE HANDSOME TREES ALREADY IN THE SQUARE” –J MAYER H
CHONGQING CIRCUS CITY BJARKE INGELS This design of turning the Chongqing circus city into a public park is designed by BIG Architects group. The design uses contours to create a topography which imitates the natural landscape of the site.
PARAMTER O D E L I N With parametric modelling, rapid prototyping can be done, which allows us to achieve and optimised form. Therefore, trial and error is done in order to form a series of selections and rejections which further define the case study process and designing for the Gateway Project.
RIC This unusual unique design of stairs is designed by Heatherwick studio. As opposed to the traditional rigidity of the stairs, the appearance of this staircase is fluid. The challenge of this design was to find a way to draw people into the store situated on the above level from the street.

AQUA TOWER JEANNE GANG OF STUDIO GANG ARCHITECTS
“AQUA TOWER WAS SHAPED BY AN ORGANIC, SITE-SPECIFIC DESIGN PROCESS. RATHER THAN STARTING OUT WITH THE GOAL OF CREATING AN ICON, WE LET THE CLIMATE AND VIEWS SHAPE THE BUILDING, WEAVING IT INTO ITS SURROUNDINGS AND TREATING THE BUILDING AND ITS ENVIRONMENT AS INTERCONNECTED NOT SEPARATE. EVEN THOUGH IT MAY APPEAR TO BE FORMALLY EXPRESSIVE, IT IS EQUAL PARTS DATA AND IMAGINATION.” – JEANNE GANG, DESIGN PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT.
ORL CLINIC MAL-VI ARCHITECTS The ORL Clinic is design by the Mal-Vi Architects and it is situated in Greece. A flexible partition was designed to keep the medic’s office and exam room separate from the reception. The partition incorporates the reception desk, as well as the exam room entrance, while it is a bulging shape which is derived from the form of an acoustic wave

BANQ RESTAURANT
The ceiling is encumbered by the myrid of mechanical, structural, and acoustic limits inherited from the building. The entire ceiling is covered by a wood-slatted system that encases and conceals the inherited system while offering a large canopy under which to dine. The wood slats are designed as a landscape. The wine storage in
the middle of the hall acts as a point of support, along with the columns(tree trunks) and acts as a monumental trunk-appear to suspend the ceiling. Certain areas of the ceiling “drip” and “slump”, acknowledging the location of to place exit signs, lighting features and other details. (NADAA website)
Exploration One: For the first exploration of forming contours, the surface of the input_surfacegrids was used, which was then connected to the Brep/ Plane Section. With the help of bounding box, explode, and list items, prep frames were formed which were then connected to the other input of Brep/Plane section giving us the contours. Exploration One: The contours from the Brep/Plane section were baked,
Exploration Two: The surface was explored in this experimentation. Using PointsOn, individual points on the surface were extruded in different directions to achieve something
Exploration Three: With the failure of the surface in the second experimentaion, a new surface was formed, with less extrusions in the third
Exploration Four: Following the third experimentation, the surface was modified and was then connected to the Brep/Plane Section. With the help of bounding box, explode, and list items, prep frames were formed which were then connected to the other input of Brep/Plane section giving us the contours. The Brep/Plane section was then
FINAL MODEL: Following Exploration four, the Brep/Plane section was connected to Projection which was then connected to End and Line to form End lines, connected to Edge surface and then extruded on x-axis.
In order to achieve the intended effect of the case study, the BANQ Restaurant, various experimentations were taken into consideration for getting closer to the ceiling contours of the Restaurant. The ceiling toplogy focuses on the look as well as the performance of the building by hiding away the mechanical system. The main focus of the Gateway Project as well as the model will be the Performance of it. In free space, the contours of the model act as a static structure which can be integrated with movement to further explore.
