ZOE IAINIS & SAMMY COLE @zoelainis, @samanatee “You have to go all out for game day!” “I love current trends, like these cool glasses!”
JACK EYKE @jack_eyke “Normally my bowling shirt but I bring it out on gamedays.”
MARISSA THOMPSON, JENNIFER MILLER & CAROLINE FROMMELT @marissathompson2, @jb.mlr, @carolinefrommelt “We love anything comfortable, athletic, sporty. It’s all about being cute and comfortable at the same time, something you can feel good in and dance in.”
JULIA HEALY @julia_healy_ “Three words I’d use to describe my gameday style: comfy, spirited, and HYPE.”
ZACHARY FOTIS @zacharyfotis “Game day is all about repping our colors and ensuring I thrive through the weather of the day. The fate of my style hangs from the racks of the thrift, and this turtleneck, t-shirt, and pants are all gifts of the thrift. I focus on buying secondhand for nearly everything I wear because the impact of the fashion industry can be devastating to the planet, and this is an easy way for me to reduce my footprint. The thrill of the thrift also keeps me coming back. It’s an adventure sifting through the giant racks of forgotten fabrics and finding a piece of magic.”
GABBY VALDERRAMA @gabby.valderrama “My gameday style usually is one statement piece and the rest of my outfit works around that. I definitely want to have that pop but not be too overbearing!
PAYTON KENNEDY @paytonkennedy_ “My favorite part of getting ready for gameday is definitely doing my makeup.”
MARGARET SMITH @margaretsmith05 “The words I live by: if it makes you happy... wear it!”
“The best part about g everybody loves Michigan an

GWEN WIBBLEMAN @gwenwibb “Usually I just try to wear as much maize as possible!”
WHO ARE YOU WEARING? @ITSBYLIV! Full-time graduate student Olivia Kaiserlian makes doubling as a student and small business owner look easy. For the past few years, Kaiserlian has established her apparel company, ITSBYLIV, where she sells hand-designed clothing pieces from her home base in Ann Arbor. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2018 with a dual degree in psychology and Spanish, Olivia started her Masters in Social Work back at the university. Though she doesn’t consider herself an expert in fashion design, she has been able to gain a following of over 10,000 people through Instagram and by word-of-mouth. Olivia tailors her designs to what she observes in current fashion trends, though she focuses mainly on game day attire for college students. Some of her most popular items include custom jean jackets, acid wash tees, and bandeau tops. Olivia entered the design world a few years ago on a creative whim. While hanging out in her apartment and sorting through some old clothes, she found a pair of old shorts and decided to paint
them with stars and a block M. She took them to the University of Michigan marketplace page on Facebook where they quickly sold, and soon began receiving more requests for custom apparel. Social media has allowed her products to spread and be shared by students who post photos of themselves in ITSBYLIV apparel every game day. Community engagement is not something that Olivia takes lightly. She is active on her Instagram every day, ready to promote new products and share the photos that customers take on game days. Additionally, she utilizes Instagram as inspiration for potential new designs. “One of my favorite ways to decide what to design next is to go on Instagram after home games to see what everyone was wearing and figure out the new trends,” says Kaiserlian. According to Kaiserlian, game day fashion has gone through a notable transformation over the past few years: “People get so creative now with game day fashion. When I was a freshman, if you had HAIL leggings and a sweatshirt, you were set.”
Olivia’s passion for community interaction not only plays a role in her current education focus and social media presence, but influences how she runs her business. “One of the best parts of running a business based in Ann Arbor is how supportive the community is,” says Kaiserlian. Not only are her customers happy to promote her products, but many people have offered to donate old clothes for her projects too. According to Kaiserlian, about 90% of the base items for her designs are thrifted from local stores like Salvation Army or received through donations like these. Kaiserlian designs outside of game day apparel, too. She has worked with commissions for bridal parties, pride events, family photo-shoots, and more. According to Kaiserlian, these designs feel less like standardized work and more like a glimpse into the important bits and pieces of people’s lives.
“I think of some of my designs as ‘tattoos for clothing.’ It’s been so meaningful for someone to trust me and give me that part of their life to work with.” Olivia will be hosting another pop-up shop in Ann Arbor this October. She is in the process of designing a website for all of her products that is scheduled to launch at the end of the month, and it will have a special section for game day apparel and posts. Keep an eye on her Instagram account @itsbyliv for pop-up information, giveaway announcements, and new product posts.
