I tend to find that there’s something special about the campus, we return to the same vibrant spaces of Ann for the academic year that lies ahead of us. And on dutifully returned to the Student Publications building, magazine we all love.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is an expression of love! From my moms hand-medowns to my favorite pair of Doc Martens, my closet holds a collection of items with specific meaning to me. I love rocking graphics that reference my most-streamed musicians or my favorite TV shows and my go-to bag is usually a tote that reflects my personal interests in some capacity. Even when I’m wearing a more basic outfit, my well-worn staple pieces bring little bits of story to whatever I have on! To me, styling myself is about feeling good and expressing myself which I find easiest to do by wearing things I love, whatever the reason may be.

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on for SHEI?
I have worked on so many projects for SHEI that I absolutely love but my favorite has to be fall 2022’s print: “Only in My Dreams”. The print team got super close and we had so much fun creating unique and creative photoshoots. It was so incredible to see clothes I worked so hard to make/ style in a physical printed magazine! Being able to have a copy of a magazine with my work in it to give as a gift to literally everybody I know is an amazing feeling. I am so excited to work with the new print team and see what we come up with this year!!

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I’m constantly captivated by the stories told through books, movies, music, photos, and even data (numbers tell stories too!) The places I’ve been and the cultures I’ve learned about fuel my desire to continue experiencing as much of the world as possible. The people around me and the conversations I’ve had, no matter how momentary, always bring me joy and fulfillment. These stories, places, and my constellation of acquaintances consistently inspire me to be curious and imaginative.

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on for SHEI?
My favorite SHEI project was during my time on the public relations team, in Winter 2022, when we put on the fashion show in the UMMA! From sourcing the pieces to promoting the event, it was so exciting to see the idea come to life.

Where do you draw inspiration from?
I find the most inspiration in music & movies, especially older ones. I really love when a movie, song, music video, or a musician’s visual direction is carefully crafted to fabricate a whole new artistic universe and makes you feel a different way than the mundane day to day activities in your life. Lately, I’ve been really inspired by a Japanese show I just watched on Netflix called First Love, and also just the general creative visuals of musicians like Raveena, Snoh Aalegra & Beyoncé <3

My personal style is minimalistic, comfortable, and classic. I find that my favorite outfits are often some combination of a black top, jeans/cargo pants, and a sweatshirt/jacket. Literally these things, a pair of Vans, and some silver accessories is all I need for almost any occasion.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style varies with the season, but for me it’s definitely an avenue to express both feminine and masculine sides of my gender. It’s thrifted hoodies, baggy Levis, hand-me-down sweaters from my mom, flowy pants, handmade tanks collected from back home in New York, beaded bracelets, dangly earrings, silver rings, and layered necklaces. :)

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on for SHEI?
I have worked on a lot of memorable projects throughout my time on SHEI, but one of my favorites has definitely been last year’s Meet The Board issue. I love Meet The Board because it is a chance for readers to put a face to all of the hard work we do throughout the year, and a great way for everyone to share their passion for the position they have. It was a ton of fun to work with the photo team and exec to design the layouts and aesthetic of the issue, and rewarding to be able to spearhead the project introducing SHEI for the school year.

Conversations with friends. Everything, everywhere, all at once.
I draw inspiration from my conversations, other people’s conversations, visual art, music, nature, YouTube, greeting cards, signage, chip bag packaging, offhand comments, class discussions, questions with thoughtful answers, answers to thoughtful questions.
But mostly conversations with friends. And a bit of everything, everywhere, all at once.

I mostly draw inspiration from the things that I experience in my life; events, videos, visual art, and my friends/family. I am also drawn to colors and the textures of certain materials around me. Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from a variety of sources, such as art-related books, exploring the works of my favorite photographers and artists, or attending exhibitions. However, I’ve learned that inspiration can be found in every aspect of life. Engaging in conversations with friends, moments of solitary contemplation, and even the mundane routines of daily life can spark creative ideas.
I believe in the importance of broadening my horizons. I actively seek out new experiences and endeavors outside of my comfort zone. For instance, while I’ve never had much interest in history or science, I recently captured themes and concepts that unexpectedly resonated with me at the American Museum of Natural History.
My creative process is fluid. Sometimes it starts with words, other times with images. Once an idea takes hold, I ensure to put it into practice and collaborate with others. I’ve found that the process of bringing ideas to life often leads to unexpected and exciting visual discoveries. In essence, inspiration is a dynamic journey that encourages exploration and creativity.

What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on for SHEI?
I loved working on last year’s independent projects issue! It was beautiful to see the different directions everyone took when given full creative freedom. Most of these pieces were created during winter break, and it was truly inspiring to witness artists dedicating their break to distinct creative endeavors. I wrote a personal narrative piece titled “Worth my Weight” for the independent projects issue, which remains one of the pieces I take the most pride in. Although I love all the issues that SHEI publishes, the independent projects issue definitely holds a special place in my heart.

How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my personal style as an aspiring maximalist with a vintage/ retro flare. I am absolutely obsessed with fashion and garment history and love to bring that into modern dress. I love combining vintage pieces with streetwear. Playing with fun textures and patterns is always the goal. I am always trying to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to personal style. I go by the opposite philosophy as coco chanel, always adding AT LEAST one more accessory before i walk out the door.

My personal style is a soft mix between cottage core feminine and mori kei! A majority of my closet is made up of neutrals/blacks and whites but I love pastel colors as well as earth-toned colors so I’m trying to source more pieces that match that! I’m always open to trying new things and mixing and matching well-loved pieces in my closet, but on snowy cold days, you might find me just bundled up in sweats and a sweater.

In the details of the every day. If I see something that catches my eye, I like to take a photo of it. Also the extremities and anything absurd usually fascinates me. I am drawn to surrealism, especially in art and film-my favorite director is David Lynch. I have a deep appreciation for nature and the way it fills the void of the emotional troughs of life and love.

What’s the best thing you’ve watched/read/listened to recently?
Recently, I’ve just finished up watching Sex in the City for the very first time and I’ve become obsessed. I watched the all of the seasons in only a few weeks. I love all of the characters and found it to be a great show to sit back and watch after a long day of classes. My favorite character has to be Carrie Bradshaw, because of her hectic New York lifestyle and her spirit. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a new show to watch!

I draw inspiration from music! From walking to class to cooking dinner, I’m always playing music. How would you describe your personal style?
Growing up on the East Coast for the majority of my life has had a major style influence on me. Throughout my life I have always embraced the timeless look, wearing pearl studs wherever I go with dainty jewelry that never comes off. One thing about my style however is that I always have to make sure I am comfortable. If I’m wearing jeans, I’m wearing an oversized sweater or comfy baby tee with it. I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe, where I have a smaller selection of timeless pieces that will never go out of style. I think overall my style could be described as “coastal chic”, however, with a very modern twist. If you see me walking around, you will rarely ever catch me in bright colors but instead a lot of neutrals and some light pastels like baby pink here and there. I always aim for a comfortable yet stylish outfit that I can wear around all day and feel my best self in.
