My first foray into magazine production was when I became a contributor writer for the Malaysian WW fashion magazine. I was given my own column to write freely on any topic relating to fashion by the editor Wirda Adnan. The opportunity and guidance that she gave me was worth a millionbucks. The experience prompted me to be editor of our very own magazine Sheikhahub. SHEIKHAHUB strives to open doors and inspire youths and the young at heart to opportunities especially for fashion. This magazine is an extension of that mission. In this issue, we gave 18 year old Raz Lyana a chance to pen her views on trending sports fashion. We also invite you to feast on the latest trends inspired by the internet and social media. We take a look at our favourite social media royalties latest style, and get in conversation with Fatma Ghanem, a Libyan but Qatar based Abaya designer. We had a glimpse at Amal Murad's latest collection, it is mesmerizing That and more, enjoy reading...

FUFI
Trend setting the Abaya fashion Conversations with entrepreneur designer Fatma Ghanem
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF My name is Fatma. I am a Libyan fashion designer. I love art, black and white films and the little things in life.
Fufi designer Fatma Ghanem (R) with her model
HOW DID YOU REALISE YOUR TALENT IN FASHION DESIGNING? I started planning when I was in college that I want to work in fashion. I wanted to work in something that makes me happy and after my graduation I began my journey
WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHT? FUFI the brand is still growing. My aim is to design Abayas that suit all Muslim women. I want to inspire people with my designs. IF YOU COULD SEE ANY WOMEN WEARING YOUR DESIGN, WHO WOULD IT BE. Any women can rock FUFI, my designs are so simple and easy to wear.
HOW DOES LIVING IN QATAR INFLUENCE YOUR DESIGN STYLE? DESCRIBE YOUR AESTHETICS. Qatar is where I started and where I live for now. Most of my collections are made in Qatar. Spending my time at the fabric Sooq is my escape to be inspired and be more creative. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNED AS A FASHION ENTREPRENEUR? I don't see it as a lesson but more as a challenge. I believe in myself and confident in what I create. I believe that I can create something very special and unique. The secret is to do what you feel and to stay aware of what's happening around.

Amal Murad a celebrity designer from the United Arab Emirates recently collaborated with KALA (Kelantan Arts and Lifestyle Aesthetics) to produce a collection from Malaysia's State of Kelantan's famous textile fabric, the Songket. The Songket is a wonderful traditionally handmade fabric. It's mostly used to create luxurious traditional costumes for special functions and wedding dresses in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei. It belongs to the brocade family of textiles in silk or cotton handwoven with gold or silver threads. This effort to introduce Songket for Abaya was initiated by the Sheikhahub founder and will pave the way for more collaborations to come.
BRINGING IN ATHLEISURE BY RAZ LYANA RAZLAN It is the luxe tracksuit, cool bombers, easy tank tops and comfy sneakers that scream few of 2016’s latest trends. The inevitable happened, sports fashion grew and the lines between style and convenience got blurred. It appears that Gym-to-Street became the new uniform of this year and it seems as if it will linger on to 2017. All it takes is going out on the streets to understand and realize that both women, and men, live in gym clothing now.
Athleisure” is not something new but it is a rebirth of the late 80’s and early 90’s trend when the use of ‘lycra’ in hosiery was popularized resulting in the boom of ‘leggings’ fashion trend. Remember when Blair Waldorf from the famous TV series Gossip Girl said ‘Tights are not pants!’ Sorry Blair, looks like tights are making a comeback. “

The whole idea of wearing activewear as daywear and weekend wear or even as office wear shift has made it socially acceptable to wear gym clothes 24/7. We can expect 2017 to be the year of “athleisure” or “sports luxe”. Think all sorts of casual, comfortable, sporty looks fitted for active use and everyday wear. Basically, showcasing a definite athletic inspiration but one that’s being polished to the max.
According to Louisa Smith, well respected in the textile industry predicted that fashion trend in athletic wear is likely to stay within the next few years. Smith says, “ People either love or hate the word athleisure, but no matter what, the trend is here to stay over the next few years.”

Not very long ago, it was considered a fashion crime to be caught in your workout gear on the city streets. It just wasn’t chic. But, today you can just go about in your leggings. Forget about dressing up or sartorial codes, bringing sportswear into streetwear is the new chic. The key element is that it only takes one piece to take your athleisure look from gym to street. The secret to it is that the piece has a sporty feel or carries athletic traits. As athleisure and sports luxe seem to be ubiquitous around the streets these day with the mesh, sporty bralletes, fashionable leggings and an entire selection of directional sneakers ranging from high street brands like Nike to high end brands such as Chanel, not everyone pulls off activewear right. If you’re having trouble pulling off the look, we could look from street-style darlings and off-duty models that rock athleisure and sports luxe just right. A fine example of someone who knows how to rock ‘Gym to street’ is Christina Paik.
With activewear getting overstretched, so does the boom of athleisure designers. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Puma and more have been in the market for gym-to-street even before it became a big trend. But, now there are many more upcoming gym-to-street brands such as Veil. Veil is an activewear line that aims to create stylish athletic wear catered for all age groups of modest dressers. The 23-year old founder of the brand, Ahmad Ghanem, says that there are already a lot of modesty-minded activewear options in the market but none of them are actually stylish. Veil’s vision was to overcome this problem in the market so modest dressers are able to join the trend athleisure without having to worry about layering their activewear to cover up. Veil wanted to make a ‘one garment, all the coverage you need’ type of activewear.

Christina Paik is a renowned fashion photographer when it comes to the streets of fashion. She balances her time between Paris and New York. Street fashion in Paris and New York both inspires her own personal style and her work as a photographer. Recently, she has been working with many athleisure brands such as Nike and Adidas. Christina maintains a quiet online persona but her style manages to capture the attention of many streetwear lovers. You can find her at www.christinapaik.com or @christinapaik on Instagram.
The best thing about athleisure is that this trend suits all such as the young, the old, the daring and the modest. Athleisure is looking your best but in comfort, it is the best trend in fashion history. Especially in the current fast paced world, style and practicality play equal roles in setting the trend. People of the modern world are way too busy to have multiple outfits for different occasions but rather have one outfit suited for all occasions. Perhaps fashion has stopped becoming too fussy and is ready to embrace different. Or maybe it’s simply because fashion finally says it’s acceptable and there are no rules. Either way, fashion has never been so good until athleisure came.
LOUIS VUITTON PARIS FASHION WEEK A/W 2016-2017
Besides that, even high-end brands also experiment with athleisure such as Louis Vuitton for Paris Fashion Week this year. “We all live in sports clothes, they are a reference for all of us,” explained creative director, Nicolas Ghesquiere, when describing his autumn collection. “It’s the way women dress today and I wanted to show that.” The Louis Vuition A/W 2016-2017 Ready-to-Wear collection was definitely a bang and we can’t wait to see more of athleisure from them in the coming years!
