2015 IN REVIEW
HELLO 2016 AS WE SAY HELLO TO 2016 WE LEFT BEHIND A RELATIVELY SUCCESSFUL 2015
Among the new programs we curated for 2015 were the ASEAN DESIGNER PROJECT or ADP and Project Sheikha, a fashion training program for Government Agencies MARA and Bumipreneurs Of Tomorrow (BAHTERA). We were also invited to amazing Turino in Italy as participant to Global Islamic Economic Forum round table discussion on modest fashion, at the invite of Dubai Council and Thomson Reuters. In November we had our annual SHEIKHAHUB WORLD ISLAMIC FASHION FORUM (SWIFF) at HEYA ARABIAN FASHION EXHIBITION in Qatar and Singapore. The many challenges that we faced was rewarded with the success of the designers that we represented during HEYA ARABIAN FASHION EXHIBITION in Qatar. We have successfully introduced LRurbancouture from Italy into the Middle East Market and put VINN PATARARIN from Thailand into Qatar Concept Store- both are young designers on their first foray into modest fashion. What more can we ask ALHAMDULILLAH. We look forward to introduce more designers to get noticed and go global.

SWIFF
SHEIKHAHUB WORLD ISLAMIC FASHION FORUM (SWIFF) is the leading modest fashion show and platform series in one platform. SWIFF converges creative thinkers, fashion experts and designers to connect, exchange ideas and opinions related on specific topics. SWIFF 2015 was held in DOHA on the 14th November with the topics 'The importance of networking and media in fashion today, followed by Singapore 'MODEST FASHION AND WEALTH CREATION'.

We had outstanding panelists for both forums. SWIFF 2015 came with its own challenges and we received constructive comments, but all is good and we look forward for more of SWIFF in 2016. NOMADIC

ARE THEY STILL RELEVANT? THE FUTURE OF THE RUNWAY
FASHION SHOWS By @DNALATT Photo credit by DCZ Qatar
Last November, during the Malaysia Fashion Week, I walked out in the middle of a show. When asked why by an official who panicked on seeing me leave just 5 minutes into the show, my answer was 'my fourth row seat is too cosy for me that I felt sleepy! Hmm.. We received some criticism on why we promoted more outside designers than locals. Firstly, the designers approached us and we don't have the heart to disappoint those who traveled from far countries to seek us help. We're too nice :-) And, secondly the Malaysian fashion scene consists of groupings and their fashion shows are mostly for private cliques, therefore we had to expand our grouping, market and network, and seem to be doing quite well NOMADIC 24 indeed. |
There are too many anomalies in the Malaysian Fashion scene to date. My sentiment is shared by Wirda Adnan, recently started her own magazine Wworld.asia. A RtheE fashion T H E Yeditors S T I LGuru L R of E LMalaysia. E V A N TWirda ?
THE FUTURE OF THE RUNWAY
The right question now is, are fashions shows still relevant for designers and fashion entreprenuers? Celebrity designer Miss Amal Murad of the United Arab Emirates still thinks it serves the purpose as a marketing tool, provided it is shown to the right crowd. It is expensive to join fashion shows and organise one, trade shows are a better choice.
FASHION SHOWS
Miss Jawaher Al Kuwairi, Qatar's fashion influencer feels the same way. It is still a relevant marketing tool but the traditional runways are losing its excitement. We need to present the shows in a more creative ways to engage the crowd. So now we can agree generally that fashion shows are not irrelevant. However, many talented designers in Malaysia still go unnoticed globally. Can we assume that this is due to the fashion shows that employ wrongBstrategies? y @ D N A LFashion A T T Shows need the right audiences for a start..
