STORMWATER AND DRAINAGE These requirements entail storm water control measures that are sustainable, utilizing nature-based solutions where applicable and the preservation of riverfront and floodplain areas throughout communities. These techniques strive to reduce cost and impact while providing residents with functional and aesthetic amenity storm water and drainage features.

intent Through limiting invasive storm water control measures, a sense of place is created through producing nature-based solutions. These solutions help to rebuild and reinforce local habitat while improving water quality and often increases capacity of storm water solutions. Preserving and protecting riverfront area and floodplains will inevitably provide positive outcomes for the design of these communities; some of these benefits include reduced associated flood risk and costs, naturalized riverfront area, natural erosion control, groundwater recharge, and recreational opportunity for residents. In an effort to limit maintenance and associated costs, proprietary structures and other devices will not be encouraged unless necessary. Instead, using planted storm water devices and other techniques emulating natural methods of water collection and filtration are encouraged.

nature-based solutions • Site context and topography should guide the grading for the proposed site plan, limiting disturbance to existing contours and existing drainage solutions (natural or designed) • Lot boundaries throughout subdivisions should depend on existing drainage solutions, avoiding redesign of existing drainage systems • Storm water devices (Swales, SCMs, Bioswales, and other forms of drainage and collection) should be planted to emulate native ecosystems, supporting ecological corridors and natural water filtration • Swales and other forms of drainage should be designed in a manner to slow water through the site, allowing sediment to drop and natural filtration to occur without extraneous control measures, preventing erosion to sites

Drainage systems for a development site must be sufficient to control the on-site storm water run-off, limiting any excessive surface water from retention in low points Designed retention, with the use of deliberate solutions, is an exception but must be approved as part of the sedimentation or storm water run-off control plan
