On The mOVe

The 2012 Southeast Institute of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce held the last week of June and the Annual 2012 Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama Summer Conference held in July empowered our chamber with phenomenal resources, from an array of organizational professionals. The Southeast Institute was held at the University of Georgia and the CCAA Summer Conference was held at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery Alabama. Institute of Organizational Management (IOM) Professional Development classes on the agenda for us were Win-Win Partnerships; Budgeting and the Bottom Line, Strategic Planning, Building Better Boards and Committees, Managing Upward, Learning to Let Go, Volunteer Management, Innovate or Die, Everyday Ethics and last but not least an interactive discussion with a panel of Chamber and Economic Development experts. This is A LOT of information to take in but the entire week was awesome because your classmates are also a huge resource and they offer chamber expertise and experience from across the United States. The Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama held its summer conference with a slate of professional development seminars for our local Alabama Chambers of Commerce which included topics of Growing and maintaining your membership, how to manage and lead people. The state CCAA Association and the Business Council of Alabama were updated through a joint Health Care Forum emphasizing getting the most from your health care dollar. The conference also highlighted the Alabama Hyundai Story that followed with a tour of the plant. The program also heard from Mayor Walt Maddox, Mayor of Tuscaloosa touching base about Response, Recovery, and Remembrance of the community’s tornado tragedy. Thank you to our chamber leadership and members. I pledge to do my best in continuing to learn and grow to serve our business community as we as an organization continue to strive to make our communities the best place to live, work and raise our families!

Sincerely, Stacy Walkup, Executive Director
