The Shelby County Chamber’s Program “12th Annual Student and
Educator of the Year”
The Shelby County Chamber is pleased to announce its “Annual Student and Educator of the Year” recognition program. Educators play a vital role in the lives of Shelby County children, impact our communities every day and help develop the workforce in which our Shelby County businesses and organizations will need in the years ahead. As such, the Chamber has launched this recognition program to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and inform our community of the exceptional quality of instruction delivered throughout Shelby County. All nominees will be recognized, and four recipients (elementary, middle and high school educators) will receive a one-time financial investment to assist their continuing development.

2024 Career Corps Program
For the third year in a row, the Chamber and 58 INC are offering Shelby County Career Corps. This program is designed to provide paid internships for educators, who wish to learn more about the variety of career pathways that exist for students and how to make subject matter relevant in the classroom.
Shelby County businesses can participate by hosting an educator this summer at no cost and showcasing their operation, departments, opportunities and challenges. To host an edu-
cator, businesses would be asked to provide three things:
1) Attend an orientation meeting in May.
2 ) Host an educator on-site for three days in June or July, so they can experience actual workplace projects, processes and/or products firsthand.
3) Inform educators of career pathways to share with students.
Also, as a result of a company’s participation, business owners would be helping to in-
fluence classroom lesson plans as each of the participating educators will be asked to put together lesson plans based upon what they learned through their experience in the 2024 Career Corps program.
For more information or to register for the 2024 Career Corps program, please contact Karen Williams, Chamber Manager of Business and Workforce Development, at karen@shelbychamber.org.
