SUMMER IN THE SOUTH

Summertime in the South feels so good! Longer days, bare feet and cool treats always add to the ambiance of summer. Enjoying activities outside such as gardening, swimming, porch sitting, lake activities such as fishing and skiing are great ways to play outside! South Shelby County offers some great opportunities for you and your family during this season. Columbiana has a summer concert series every Friday Night offering free music in the downtown area that is sponsored by locals businesses from 7pm-9pm. Susan Conn, owner of Main Street Florist and member of the Columbiana Merchants and Professionals Association organizes the events. Bring your chair and enjoy! It is never a better time to celebrate our freedom, thanking our Military, and enjoying traditional hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream and apple pie as we celebrate Independence Day in Shelby County. Columbiana will celebrate their 27th Annual Liberty Day celebration on the last Saturday in June, kicking off the event the Friday Night before with Live Music on Main. Saturday will feature all day events, music, hall of fame memories, Miss Shelby County, Museum Tours , Patriotic Parade and so much more like the funnel cakes, gospel music, fireworks, smiling friends and oh my goodness I am getting excited like crazy..

THE HARTFORD

What a wonderful tradition the City of Columbiana offers this time of year. God n Country Celebration is the Wilsonville community Independence Day Celebration! This event takes place on Sunday which is ideal being it is sponsored and organized by the Wilsonville Baptist Church. The event takes place downtown on Main Street and is proud to feature the Palmetto State Quartet group this year! Bring your chair and come enjoy this wonderful opportunity right here at your back door! Chelsea will feature their “Big Kaboom patriotic tradition offering local entertainment usually coordinated by Wayne Morris. This entertainment is so inspiring because he really brings out the local talent our Chelsea Community celebrates throughout the year! You will find a lot of local business vendors selling food, smoothies, drinks and more. This special touch really gives the newcomers in the Chelsea Park area a chance to meet the local businesses working right there at the event! The fireworks and program are so much fun and are a nice tradition in the City. Is Your Computer System Safe From Unwanted Visitors? By John D. Browning | Cahaba Valley Computer Services, LLC Have you noticed your computer running slower than usual? Do you get strange pop-ups while you are trying to work? When you attempt to go to a particular web site, do you sometimes end up on a page that you never intended to go to? If you answered yes to any of these questions, your computer system might be infected with an unwanted type of program known as malware. Malware, or malicious software, can include computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses, rootkits, spyware and adware as well as other types of unwanted programs. Often, people think that they have a computer virus when their system is actually infected with some other form of malware. By definition, a computer virus is a program that can replicate itself and spread from one computer to another. Other forms of malware do not have the ability to replicate themselves. Although many malware programs are not classified as viruses, they can be just as destructive and severely damage a computer’s file system. There are many precautions that you can take to prevent a malware infection, such as running a good anti-virus program and making sure that your software has the latest updates and system patches. There are many commercial products available to help prevent malware infections. Are any of them 100% foolproof? No, that is why everyone still has to exercise caution in opening e-mails and surfing the web. Viruses and other malware cost businesses huge sums of money each year. Not only does the theft of critical company data cost a business, but the lost time spent getting their systems cleaned and functioning normally again can be devastating. Sadly, you can no longer look at the situation as “if you get attacked”, it is now almost certainly “when you get attacked”. To learn more about how to protect your business from malware attacks and how to establish a recovery plan in the event of an attack, please join us at the South Shelby County Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Thursday, June 7th at 11:30am-1pm. The Chamber meets at the Columbiana United Methodist Church located at 200 North Main Street, the price is $10.00.
