Season Outlook: The Lions flew under the radar a year ago on their way to a Class 5A, Area 7 title and an appearance in the Central Region tournament. Briarwood Christian has a shot with tough-as-nails point guard Cara Medders and stealth shooter Hannah Wainwright. The Lions will need someone to step up and provide a post presence on the perimeter and in the frontcourt.

Season Outlook: The Eagles should take a step forward this season with the return of Jocelyn Davis, who led Calera in scoring and provided leadership a year ago. Calera will need Cormesha Kirksey and Maurina McClain, a pair of seniors, to take on bigger leadership roles this year. Taylor White and A’Kia Harris will lead the Eagles’ frontcourt this season.

Season Outlook: The Hornets are in a position to make a run at a Class 5A, Area 7 championship with six seniors on the roster, including four returning starters. Amanda Mock and Perri Lambert will provide Chelsea with a powerful duo in the paint. Nwando Anwah, Allie Luster and Sarah Holliday are returning in the backcourt after seeing plenty of playing time last season.

Season Outlook: Indian Springs will be in a rebuilding mode this season after losing its leading scorer and rebounder to graduation. Ambria Hardy, a standout on the volleyball court, and Paula Simonetti, a soccer star, will likely be called on to showcase their basketball skills this year. Several players will play supporting roles, including seniors Maranda Berry, Savanna Freeze and Riley Turner.

Season Outlook: Montevallo will miss Amber Cardwell, the Bulldogs’ team leader a year ago. Mallory Anderson, a senior, will likely fill in the leadership void. Kiah Smith will provide scoring in the backcourt. Forward Kayla Cunningham is a bruising force in the paint. The Bulldogs will need a few other players to step up if they plan to make a postseason run.

Season Outlook: The Eagles, who nearly reached the Class 6A Northeast Region tournament last season, should have another shot to return to a region tournament this season with several key players in the backcourt returning, including Hannah Griffin and Mackenzie Garmany. Madison Pierce grew into an imposing presence in the paint a year ago.

Season Outlook: The Panthers should show much improvement this season with the return of senior guard Ashley Kate Kepler. Kepler will join Sydney Days in a formidable backcourt for Pelham. Bradleigh Smith, Erin Whitman and Carlie Walker should provide help in the frontcourt after seeing plenty of playing time for the Panthers last season.

Season Outlook: The Wildcats started last season with seven wins in a row but couldn’t carry any momentum from a great run during the regular season into the playoffs. Shelby County will need to replace a couple of key players, but the pieces are in place for a successful season. Aulicia Nunn will play a key role in the backcourt, and Keyanna Gayden will be a force in the paint.

Season Outlook: The Jaguars had both exhilarating wins and disappointing losses last season. Spain Park should take a step closer to the playoffs with Jessica Freeman, Whitney Gulledge and Kelsie Williams returning in the backcourt. The Jaguars will need a couple of players to step up and help Jasmine Moore provide a presence in the frontcourt.

Season Outlook: The Warriors are in good shape in the backcourt with Rachel Lawley and Kat Cingoranelli returning after seeing a lot of playing time a year ago. KaDeisha Stowes, who was unstoppable at times last season, will be a force in the paint. Thompson will need a few newcomers to step up if it hopes to compete for a playoff spot.

Season Outlook: The Yellow Jackets return several key players from last season’s squad, which reached the sub-region round in the Class 2A playoffs. Kiara Cohill and Brooklyn Jones will be tasked with providing scoring and leadership. Pam Mann will be a go-to player in the frontcourt for Vincent, which will need a few other players to step up down low.

Season Outlook: The defending Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A champions should have a shot at repeating with several starters returning. Senior Amelia Ripley is a sharpshooter in the backcourt. Kaylan Rich can provide help both in the backcourt and the frontcourt. Lauren Archer, the most valuable player in last season’s championship game, is nearly unstoppable in the paint.

Season Outlook: The Chargers will rely on senior guard Jana Kelbie Amstrong to give the Chargers a scoring threat from the perimeter. Megan Atchison also played a key role for Cornerstone Christian last season. Destiny Dillard, a senior, will provide leadership. The Chargers will need a few youthful players to step up if they hope to make a run at a postseason bid.

Season Outlook: The Lions reached the Elite Eight last season despite a subpar record in the regular season. Kingwood Christian should be in good shape in the backcourt with Blair Holsombeck and Madelyn Pearce returning after seeing plenty of playing time last season. Casey Whitmer is a scoring and rebounding force in the paint for the Lions.
