Vincent

The Mayor, Town Council, and citizens of Vincent, Alabama welcome all newcomers to our area. Vincent is one of the few progressive Shelby County locations that still offer small town hospitality and personality. Vincent is located on Highway 231 between Interstate 20 and Highway 280, which offers area residents the proximity to work in various larger cities and leave the fast paced city life after work and escape to the quiet country setting that is the essence of Vincent. For those who don’t care to venture far from home, we offer all the shopping opportunities, of the larger cities, on a more personal scale. Boasting an extremely low crime rate, our Police Department provides a safe and secure atmosphere in which to raise a family. The Vincent Volunteer Fire Department, backed up by the Harpersville Fire Department, provides fire and rescue safety for homes and businesses. Recreation activities are abundant in Vincent. We have Gorman Park, with free boat launch access, on the Coosa River and Vincent Municipal Park, located centrally in town, with a picnic pavilion, children’s playground, walking track, football field, softball field, and two baseball fields available to the public. Vincent Elementary School, Vincent Middle School, and Vincent High School are excellent educational facilities located inside the town limits. In addition to the quiet country living experience, other areas of Vincent offer enticing opportunities for business development. With two railroads going through the town and access to major highways, Vincent has numerous untapped economic possibilities. Come, experience, and enjoy the slower paced Vincent life style and you will want to make it your life style too.

MEMBERS CORNER A BACKPACK CAN BE QUITE A PAIN Before we know it the kids will be heading back to school. In the days ahead they will be preparing for that day by searching for the latest fashions and accessories. There is one school accessory that parents and students should select with great care and attention. That accessory is the BACKPACK. As Backpacks have grown in popularity, Doctors have continued to express cautions regarding how Backpacks should be worn. Proper fit and usage of Backpacks could reduce potential damage to children’s growing backs and muscles. It is hard to believe, but children sometimes carry as much as 40 % of their body weight in their Backpacks. Dr. Bliss Newell of Columbiana Chiropractic recommends a loaded Backpack weigh no more than 15% of the child’s body weight. A correctly worn Backpack can distribute weight among some of the strongest muscles in the body. But a poor fit and an overloaded Backpack can lead to joint and muscle problems or injuries. To insure that your child is protected from such injuries, follow the tips below and be- sure to try the Backpack on before it is purchased and worn. Backpack Tips: Light Weight when empty: No added weight to a potentially heavy load Two Wide Padded Shoulder Straps: insures good blood flow in shoulders Padded Back: provides extra protection Waist Strap: helps prevent bouncing up & down when walking Wear the Straps: All of them to allow for even distribution of the weight Don’t Overload: the load recommendation is no more than 15% of the child’s body weight For more information on this important subject, call Dr. Bliss Newell of Columbiana Chiropractic at 669-5252 for a no obligation telephone consultation.
