lunCheon refleCTions August Shelby County Mental Health Court information was shared to chamber members by our Probate Judge of Shelby County James W. Fuhrmeister, Judge Hub Harrington and Ira Blanchard at the August luncheon that spotlighted the Town of Vincent. Mayor Ray McAllister welcomed everyone and thanked the Vincent businesses of L.R. Skipper Stables, McCarn Enterprises, Muddbug’s Gourmet Food, Shelby County Family Resource Center, Vulcan Information Packaging, Frontier National Bank, Vincent Gardens, Vincent Hills and Smith’s Grocery for expoing at the luncheon. The luncheon was catered and sponsored by Dorris Harris, owner of Blue Spring Manor Bed & Breakfast and Faye McGuire of Frontier Bank. Sonya Lefkovits was honored and recognized for her dedication and contributions to Columbiana and Shelby County by Richard Cook and the following: South Shelby Chamber of Commerce, Columbiana Merchants and Professionals Association, Senator Richard Shelby’s Office, and the Office of Representative Mike Hill. Special thanks went out to our ambassadors and volunteers for helping with all aspects of the luncheon.

September “When a nonprofit organization reaches out to you, reach back!” is what Joe Ray, Executive Director of Adaptive Aquatics in Wilsonville emphasized at the September Chamber luncheon. Nonprofit organizations are having tough times in this economy too and their services have not changed according to Joe. Adaptive Aquatics is a 501c-3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the introduction, teaching and advancement of adaptive water skiing for children and adults with physical disabilities. Our Chamber President Tim Prince welcomed everyone to the luncheon and board member Evan Major gave the invocation. Our luncheon was sponsored by Alabama Power and hosted by Hartley’s Down Home Kitchen of Chelsea. Emphasizing nonprofits we had expo booths representing Family Connection, Greater Shelby County Education Foundation, The Arc of Shelby County, Spirit of Hope Youth Ranch, Jobs Program at Shelby County Department of Human Resources, The Shelby County Arts Council and Adaptive Aquatics. We welcomed new members and called out wonderful door prizes donated by chamber member businesses. The tables were decorated with a Jimmy Buffett theme for our upcoming Silent Auction and Gala. A big thank you goes out to the volunteers of the chamber including ambassadors and RSVP Volunteers.
