ince April is National Volunteer Month, I feel it is fitting to recognize the Pavilion Auxiliary. But what exactly is an auxiliary? To start with, it is a noun – the Auxiliary. But it is also an adjective. It describes the role that the volunteers within the Auxiliary perform. Diving even deeper, the Latin root of our English word “auxiliary” is auxiliaris, from auxilium which means help; and is similar to the Latin augēre which means to increase. And that is exactly what the Pavilion Auxiliary does! The men and women who volunteer through the Auxiliary HELP our residents and staff. And probably more importantly they INCREASE the care and services that we provide to the residents. Through their efforts, Pavilion residents enjoy a more active and fulfilling quality of life.

Without the Auxiliary and their efforts, some residents would need to wait longer to be assisted with their meals or to activities. Residents wouldn’t have their mail delivered to them every day. Residents in Connected Living wouldn’t have a special friend who visits with them and spends time with them, enjoying this particular moment in the life of that resident. Residents wouldn’t benefit from the special enjoyment of viewing the wonderful scenery of Southwest Florida in the new van, donated through the generosity and efforts of the Auxiliary. And this is just the beginning of what the Auxiliary accomplishes each and every day! So, ladies and gentlemen of the Pavilion Auxiliary – please accept a big THANK YOU from all of the staff and residents at the Larsen Pavilion. You are a priceless treasure to us!

Transforming Your Inside By Linda Schmierer, Assistant Chaplain

F

or several years, my husband and I lived in an old condo building that was recently redesigned and remodeled. Remodeling was a way of updating and transforming the inside of the building to make it look newer and more appealing. Those who have experienced this know how laborious and upsetting it can be going from the old to the new! The same can be true when you let God renew and remodel the inside of your life. God has a plan for your life and every believer will go through a time of transformation. If you allow God to strip away the old habits and thoughts of your sin nature, He will replace them with His own truths and principles through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Sometimes we have to go through suffering to eventually make us beautiful on the inside. As the apostle Paul tells us in Romans 5:3-5, “… we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces patience; and patience, character. Character produces joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation. Such hope never disappoints us, for God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Do you feel sometimes like you are experiencing upheaval and brokenness? If so, let God transform and remodel your life by the Holy Spirit. You will be filled with joy and amazement at the outcome!

Pavilion Press Hearts Full ofLove

n February, Pavilion residents enjoyed a Valentine’s Day themed dining experience. Everyone enjoyed the delicious sweetheart meal after traveling through the “Tunnel of Love” and arriving within the Schilling Dining Room. Too Tall Torrie also stopped by for the celebration, spreading love to Pavilion residents with help from a few special balloon friends! Sweethearts were everywhere, but one special couple especially enjoyed their trip down memory lane as they walked through the Tunnel of Love: Pavilion Auxiliary volunteer Ray Nandal (Nautilus) and his wife, Doris. Ray leads the Auxiliary’s wheelchair committee and has dedicated many years of volunteer service to the Larsen Pavilion. Both he and his wife have deep, caring hearts. During the sweetheart meal, the Nandals told their dining companions about how their first date took place at the original Tunnel of Love that is located in Virginia. This loving couple has been walking hand-in-hand through marriage for 70 years, and celebrated this major milestone together in March. Congratulations!
