Monica Bacon Monica Bacon is the founder and President of the L.A. based Sovereign Agency, a full-service marketing, promotions, record label, management and consulting firm. Bacon launched the Sovereign Agency in 2009 bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and over 20 years experience in the music industry. Having worked in all aspects of music, Bacon is a visionary leader and creative force who has been an integral part in the growth and rise of the gospel genre. For several years, Bacon served as Sr. Vice President of the vanguard gospel label, Gospo Centric Records and is responsible for launching some of the most successful gospel artists. At the forefront of label, Bacon worked along side the label’s founder, Vicki Lataillade, and was instrumental in propelling the careers of an impressive array of artists including Kirk Franklin, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Dorinda Clark-Cole, God’s Property, J Moss, 21:03, Byron Cage and Kurt Carr. As a leader in her field, Bacon’s many ‘firsts’ in carrying gospel music to the masses was her groundbreaking campaign with Kirk Franklin. She was responsible for securing, Franklin’s VIBE Magazine cover – the first ever cover story for a gospel artist on a national, mainstream music publication. She went on to make major inroads into the general market and mainstream landing high-profile appearances for platinum selling acts God’s Property and Kirk Franklin on The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno and The David Letterman Show.
She continued to garner worldwide attention for Franklin and Gospo Centric Records by procuring appearances on several music shows including the Grammy Awards, NAACP Image Awards, The Soul Train Awards, Billboard Music Awards, BET Awards and multiple Stellar and Dove Awards. She became an important part of the transition when Gospo Centric was acquired by BMG in 2004 that ultimately led to the creation of Zomba Label Group (a merged label with Verity Records and Gospo Centric Records). Bacon understood then the appeal of contemporary Gospel artists and knew how to expand their reach far beyond the traditional audiences associated with the genre.
After leaving Gospo Centric, her tenacity and hard work helped her start up the Sovereign Agency that has since provided management and consultation to top-tier artists, labels and corporations in Gospel. In 2011, she . forged a label deal with UCMG which released Isaac Carree’s first solo album “Uncommon Me,” which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Chart and spurred the hit single “In The Middle.” UNCOMMON ME was a breakthrough album.
Sovereign Agency has also expanded into the world of sports. Bacon manages and coordinates NBA player Sean May’s annual Basketball Camp for kids in Charlotte, NC and The Sean May Foundation. She also produced The All Star Gospel concert at NBA All Star Weekend. Bacon created the gospel concert to bring artists such as Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Byron Cage, J Moss, Israel Houghton, Tamela Mann, Micah Stampley and Ruben Studdard together with top NBA players past and present. The concert also paid special tribute to the NBA Moms (including Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Corey Maggette) and was aired on Gospel Music Channel and BET’s Lift Every Voice.
Always the pioneer, Bacon continues to take her company to new levels. She has gone on to work with corporate clients including Chrysler Financial’s Initiative RISING STARS TOUR and LiveNation’s THE KING’S MEN TOUR. Bacon recently expanded Sovereign Agency into the film and television world. She provided national marketing and tour management for RGM NewBreed (a multi-media film and music company headed by Israel Houghton and Galley Molina). Their first theatrical release “I’m In Love With A Church Girl,” was released in October 2013. She also currently provides national marketing and consultation to the Game Show Network (GSN) and WEtv for their emerging line of faith-based TV programs. With a successful track record as such, it is no question why Sovereign Agency is the go-to consultancy to developing a strong brand and productivity. Company slogan “TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK”
