Shelter Research Unit (IFRC SRU) Shelter Research Unit

In 2010, the Benelux Red Cross Societies (Luxembourg Red Cross, Belgian Red Cross – Flanders, Belgian Red Cross – French Speaking community and the Netherlands Red Cross) decided to establish the IFRC Shelter Research Unit (IFRC SRU) to support the International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent societies (IFRC) in its role of global shelter cluster convener in times of natural disasters. IFRC SRU’s mission is to speed up and improve shelter responses by documenting sheltering resources and practices and, from thereon, developing innovative shelter solutions. The units focus is on material and technical aspects of humanitarian sheltering, and its activities center on mapping, innovating and interacting.
