Praised for his commanding and poetic performances of repertoire ranging from Bach to Zaimont, acclaimed American pianist Drew Petersen is a sought-after soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. He is the recipient of the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as the winner of the 2017 American Pianists Awards and the Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship. Petersen has appeared in solo recitals at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Dame Myra Hess Concerts in Chicago, Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, Brevard Music Center’s Summer Festival and Chicago’s Ravinia Festival.

Since graduating from Shenandoah Conservatory in 2016, Alexander Bernstein has forged an impressive career as a young artist who expertly traverses the worlds of classical and new music. His love of new music has led him to study and premier works by contemporary composers, such as Berio, Ligeti, Ives and Cage; and in 2015, he recorded a solo CD of works by the Irish composer Ryan Molloy. His solo recitals have been received to great acclaim in the United States, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Romania. Bernstein has fiercely performed in many competitions, winning second prize and the RTE Lyric FM Special Prize at the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition, third prize in the 2015 Verona International Piano Competition, third prize in the 2015 Gian Battista Viotti International Piano Competition and first prize in the 2011 Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year Competition.

During his auspicious career before winning the 2021 American Pianist Awards and Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship, Kenny Broberg captured the silver medal at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and a bronze medal at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition, as well as prizes at the Hastings, Sydney, Seattle and New Orleans International Piano Competitions, becoming one of the most decorated and internationally renowned pianists of his generation.

Joanna MacGregor CBE is one of the world’s most innovative musicians, appearing as a concert pianist, curator and conductor. As a solo artist, MacGregor has performed in more than eighty countries and appeared with many eminent conductors and orchestras, including the London Symphony and Sydney Symphony orchestras. She performs regularly at major venues throughout the world, including Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre and Barbican Centre in London, Sydney Opera House, Leipzig Gewandhaus and more.

Acclaimed by the Baltimore Sun as “one of the biggest pianistic talents to have emerged in this country in the last 25 years,” pianist Terrence Wilson is an active recitalist who has toured around the world. In Europe, he has given recitals at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Louvre in Paris, and countless other major venues. In the United States, he has given recitals at Lincoln Center in New York City (both Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall); the Ravinia Festival in Chicago; the Caramoor Festival in Katonah, New York and more. Wilson has received numerous awards and prizes, including the SONY ES Award for Musical Excellence, an Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Juilliard Petschek Award.

Join us on the Sunday of each World of the Piano performance at 1:30PM in Armstrong Concert Hall for a Pre-concert Talk! Learn about the artist’s program from Shenandoah Conservatory faculty and special guests.

Piano Masterclasses

Observe the guest artists as they work with Shenandoah Conservatory piano students. Masterclasses are typically held on the Monday following most World of the Piano performances from 10AM to noon in Armstrong Concert Hall. Limited seating is open to the public for quiet observation. Please arrive by 9:45AM.
