April 18-20, 2025

April 18-20, 2025
The beautiful springtime campus of Shenandoah Valley Academy provides the setting for a glorious reunion. Alumni Weekend is a brief and shining moment when the SVA Family is as complete as it will be this side of heaven. It is a precious time to strengthen bonds of friendship with beloved classmates and faculty who have made an important difference in our lives. And it is a special opportunity to meet the wonderful students who attend SVA today.
This weekend is also a time to celebrate and thank you, Alumni. Shenandoah is strong and growing because of your unwavering support, love, and loyalty. Students today become part of the powerful legacy of SVA Adventist boarding school because of you who generously make financial gifts to sustain this special school. Thank you for committing your energies and resources to the well-being of students and the long-term sustainability of SVA.
It is my prayer this weekend will be a time to renew our love for God and each other. I encourage you to partner with your school again by making a financial gift, or by taking time to encourage current students who in turn will share their energy and joy of youth with you.
It is a special honor to have you here… Where Shines the Big Virginia Sun…
Welcome!
Donald Short Principal
Isn’t it fun to come “home” to SVA Alumni Weekend homecoming?
SVA is so much more than a school. SVA has been a home in some way to each and every one of us. It is a home away from home where we learned in an atmosphere of God’s love. We made lifelong friends by living, working, and studying, surrounded by those who love and serve God. It is “a place, and a feeling, and people” that makes SVA our home. That is why we are here today. I am so thankful to all of you alumni for your support that allows SVA to continue to provide this opportunity to students from all kinds of backgrounds throughout Virginia, Maryland, the United States, and the world.
We all have other places that we call home. I have had many homes in my life: SVA, Dayton, Loma Linda, Collegedale, and Macon. It hasn’t always been the physical place that made it Home, but rather the people, experiences, and feelings I have had there. I also have a home in heaven that I have never seen. It is real though, and filled with love and security. But best of all, it is where I will get to spend eternity close to God our Father.
Enjoy this weekend, laughing, crying, and making new memories with friends new and old. Your presence here makes SVA a better place. Please continue to pray that God’s presence and leading is felt by each one who walks this campus. And as you leave again, think about what home means to you. Do you have more than one home? I hope so. I know I do.

In a Little While We’re Going Home Congregation
Let us sing a song that will cheer us by the way, In a little while we’re going home; For the night will end in the everlasting day, In a little while we’re going home. Refrain:
In a little while, in a little while, We shall cross the billow’s foam, We shall meet at last when the stormy winds are past, In a little while we’re going home.
Benediction
We will do the work that our hands may find to do, In a little while we’re going home; And the grace of God will our daily strength renew, In a little while we’re going home.
There’s a rest beyond, there’s relief from every care, In a little while we’re going home; And no tears shall fall in that city bright and fair, In a little while we’re going home.

Thank You
A special thank you to this weekend’s featured speakers, Pastor Simon Liversidge ’85 and Pastor Reed Richardi ’00. Also, to the Alumni Association officers and volunteers who work to make this very special SVA Family Reunion possible. Thank you to SVA faculty, staff, and student hosts, and New Market Church members, for welcoming everyone so warmly this weekend.
Thank you music directors Daniel Biaggi and Kelly Wiedemann Jaén, and SVA student musicians, the keepers of Shenandoah music tradition who lead and coordinate Alumni Weekend music. We are grateful for the glimpse of heaven you provide each year.
It is a great blessing for multiple generations of the SVA Family to fellowship and praise God together. We look forward to Jesus’ soon return when we will enjoy the greatest SVA reunion of all and praise Him together for all eternity. May we all be there!

Our Shenandoah
Where shines the big Virginia sun, And Old Dominion’s streamlets run, From out the Massanutt’s cool shade, And down great Allegheny’s glade, God’s works in nature multiplied, Extol His name on ev’ry side.
chorus
O Shenandoah (stomp & clap), dear Shenandoah (stomp & clap), In thee do we delight to rest (clapping) And daily strive to do our best, For Shenandoah, Shenandoah.
In nature’s dooryard neatly planned, A gift is placed by God’s own hand, The S.V.A. of sacred birth, Our own dear school of sterling worth Whose beacon lit by gospel truth, Sheds holy light on paths of youth. What blighting frost can chill our zeal, Or fury’s evil ever deal, A blow in madness fit to shake Our faith in thee, O S.V.A! Or cause our strength in future time, To [fail] before thy cause sublime?
Oh When Shall I See Jesus Medley
O, when shall I see Jesus and reign with Him above, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning? And from the flowing fountain drink everlasting love, And shall hear the trumpet sound in that morning.
Refrain
O, shout, glory! For I shall mount above the skies, When I hear the trumpet sound in that morning.
Gird on the gospel armor of faith and hope and love, And you’ll hear the trumpet sound in that morning. And when the combat’s ended He’ll carry you above, And you’ll hear the trumpet sound in that morning.
Face to Face
Only faintly now I see Him, With the darkening veil between, But a blessed day is coming, When His glory shall be seen.
Refrain x 2
Face to face shall I behold Him, Far beyond the starry sky; Face to face in all His glory I shall see Him by and by!
Refrain
O, shout, glory! For I shall mount above the skies, When I hear the trumpet sound in that morning.
In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe; This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save.
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied, For every sin on Him was laid, Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground, his body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth, in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands, in victory
Sin’s curse has lost it’s grip on me, For I am His, and He is mine,
Bought by the precious blood of Christ.
Refrain x 2
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand
No guilt in life, no fear in death, This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry, to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck, me from His hand
Til he returns and calls me home
Here in the power of Christ, I’ll stand.
Refrain X 2
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
Coda
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Til He returns, and calls me home
Here in the power of Christ, I’ll stand.
