I. Nanjichiang Mix-used Housing Project year: 2014 type: academic project
Nanjichiang (Southern Airport in chinese) used to be a military airport in Taipei under japanese rule befor 1950's. After Chaing Kai-Hsek and KMT took over Taiwan, this place became a veteran village where were flooded caused by a typhoon in 1959. Because of this catastrophe, government decided to demolish these temporary metal and wooden huts and build a first modern housing complex in Taiwan. The complex was completed in 1962, five stories high, constructed by reinforced concrete and red brick wall system. Each small block contains two buildings connected by the spiral stairecase in the middle. However, there were three types of habitat unit: 26.4 m², 33m², 39.6m², all of which could afford hardly a nuclear family needed space. By so, the habitants started to build additions according to their needs, plus the commercial activities(night market, grocery, stores..etc) spread on the ground level rapidly, until now the site turned into a slum for veterans, foreign brides and low-income households. According to the urban renewal policy of the authority, Nanjichiang Housing project will be demolished by 2020 and rebuild a more livable housing complex on the old and slumlike community. In order to redistribute the social resources, part of habitants will be selected from different background and the rest are originals.
composition of a duplex unit
Every duplex shares a platform in the middle, it leads to individual front doors then there is a staircase connects to the lower level(living room, kitchen, bathroom) and the upper level(bedrooms and and a bathroom).

part of daily life of Nanjichiang housing
The project consists of four housing blocks, including 480 individual houses, each two stories high and every two of them are interlocking as a duplex unit which is duplicated in a non-linear way horizontally and differentiated by 3.5m hight vertically. The circulation is created by continuous ramps connecting all the houses(where live all kinds of people: the veterans, foriegn brides, young couples, artists and tourists...etc). The "streets in the air" are no longer horizontal, they become a sort of promenade space where you can stop by and chit chat with your neighbors, instead put your washing machine and do laundry on the hallway. Therefore, the social mobilty has a chance to happen in the community.

II. an Architectural Analogy of Jean Cocteau's movie: "Orpheus" year: 2013-2014 type: academic project
Orpheus' wife, Eurydice, is impatient with his obsession, and Heurtebise tries to comfort her. But eventually (to leap ahead) Eurydice is dead. Finally, Orpheus saves her back from the underworld.
Princess-the death, against the rules, fall in the love with Orpheus and killed Eurydice out of jealousy. In the end, she is on trial and the tribunal takes her power away and she never see Orpheus again.
Orpheus, a famous poet, astonishingly returns from the land of death, he is more concerned with the nonsensical radio transmissions than with his wife who loves him because he thinks it might be a sort of mysterious inspiration for his art.
Exploration of Architecture Form from the movie: Orpheus Tracing every scene is the first step of abstraction, and the two-dimensional drawings are transformed into architectural elements: walls, windows, openings, doors...etc, these undescribable forms are could be recombined and recomposed to achieve their new syntax and sematic universe. Just like in the movie, Orpheus, is obssessed with the mysterious and uncomprehensible sound from the radio which he considers as inspiration of his work.repeatedly.
The site is located on the south side of Fu-Chou mountain in Taipei where used to be a cemetery, now is a park seperating the residential area and the National Second Funeral Parlor. Because of the geogeaphaphic condition and its history, the site becomes an edge of life and death in a symbolic way, which is similar to the meaning of the mirror in the film of OrphĂŠe.

III. Floating Skirt of Nude Descending a Stiarcase year:2011 type: academic project
Nangang has the lowest population among all of the districts in Taipei, with thw new public constructions like the Nangang Exhibition Hall, Software Park and the China Trust Headquarter recently, it has become a new colony for investors who tend to put malls and deluxe residential buildings on the vast open ground. Consideration about the urban context and history is unecessary for the local autorities who are going to build a mix-used recreation center on site. By so, it seems that the district will be voided of its memory except the captialism soon or later. The idea of this project is to conceive a solitary island in the vaccant urban space, it's an artificial landscape which has its own context and memory. The architecture is divided into five parts, including library, gallery, and sport facillities along with the fragmental shapes, looks like several hills coming out continuosly from the earth where people could live in and walk inbetween.
Duchamp's hint/ In the painting Nude Descending a Staircase by Marcel Duchamp, it seems to express a continuous movement on the canvas, the shape of nude is divided into abstract fragments which are not dispersed but are connected by the hint of motion(He portrayed her from one view at multiple moments). It gives a inspiration of shaping a dynamic folding shell, floating in the mid-air constantly. The destruction of form is ruled by the timeline, like the rocks cut by the sea as time goes by, the architecture is an imitation of landscape.
