INSPIRATION My work follows dynamics of human nature, conceptual and experimental themes. I look for relevant reference in surroundings and environment that transform surrounding network, and communities. I tend to explore in areas of classical and contemporary art and photography. During COVID, I decided to take a gap year to learn and train at my father’s design-build construction firm. Activities such as construction management and model-building further developed my creativity and management skills. Frequent site visits and conceptual design meetings also taught me the skills in developing and rationalising ideas and thought into my design, which has significantly contributed and boosted confidence in my practice. The Fulltime Internship marks a period of transition, to be used to question and experiment with both theory and practice in the study of spacial issues; to work with not only one set of values but with various strategies fo design.a媽的

A BRIEF JOURNEY City Drawings | Photography
Archtiectural imagination to me does not have to be pre-existing, as to wich an archtiects work is to imagine projects that changes hwo we see the world. Therefore I like to explore through all forms of creation, phtography to me is more than just taking a photo, A good photograph change how we think about the world, On the right are few different style of my creation - quiet, movement, stealth, stirdyness, perportion, etc. The dentity of an Creator are more than matter fo personae, its autonomous subjectivity and personal identity. I am more akin to discovery and imagine than regulation. Archeitcture is other form of invention.

Under the Bridge Charcoal as the only medium, I’ve really like this building as it turns out to be special in terms of location and its surrounding, the building in under the bridge in the middle of a cross section, the shadow that generated by the bridge was just interestingly contrasting off with the building under the sky.

Sunday Morning Church The Hallway This is a drawing tries to show the atmospheric of a space with an semi circular arc which to me, really shows the elegance of the space and also creates an unique atmosphere while with its minimal geometry, almost like an enlargement of space and makes the space feel quite and peaceful.
Mixed media painting, yet another practice on St Tomas Church in newcastle, I redid this painting as i feel like this could the shadow should be much more stronger enable to show the full idea of luminosity of the space, due to the impact of the COVID19 which i have no accosts the original drawing, I decided to use existing scan and combine with multimedia creation to finish this drawing.

MEASURING PROCESS Proportion and scale A project with Hands-on measuring tasks and documentation methods, allows me to notice detals of joints and relationship between edge joints and connection of different material. In the end producing total of four scaled drawings solely on my own measurements, making me mroe capable of reacting and develope fields information.

The entrance was certainly a big contrast with the light from outside and inside
The window setting at the hallway is the most unique and important element that set the atmosphere of the scene. The large French window at both end of the hallway. The light and shadow gives it a quiet feeling.

The method I use is mainly is by drawing out the outline I see roughly and start putting down accurate tape measurement according to the dimension, and this allows me to work fast without getting unorganised. This detail section can be referred to the letter “A on the next page.

“ELEMENTAL is a Chilean based architecture practice who focus on architecture work of public interest and social impact.” (Arcspace 2016)
Elemental is a social housing provides homes for 100 families on a land size of 5000 sqm site, for more than 30 years, the site is located at the center of Iquique, in the Chilean Desert (archdaily, 2008). The space provides shelter for illigal occupant since 1960’s, The main goal for this project was to maintain the low-raise characteristic of the housing while maximizing the land efficientcy. The construction took place in 2003 and was executed in 9 months time.

Elemental social housing features a half-self build idea. Which allows the residence to build it into the local context, this also make the connection of neighbourhood stronger. Families build accordingly to their budget. The area has a close connection as all the houses are closer together. Materials prefabricated offsite, and as the supporting structure, the house are provided wiht bathroom, staircase and a kitchen. “That is how we contribute using architectural tools, to non-architectural questions, in this case, how to overcome poverty.“ - Alejandro Arvena

Same with the garden I’ve decided to add them all after the comment. This demonstrate my idea of the movement the house on the second floor.

The idea of the Tetris representation came from the idea that shape of the house being an “L” shape and allowing owners to self built the other oprtion in which i think it is abit like the Tetris but in architectural form, so i decided to do a collage of the “Falling houses“ which present the idea of creation in the process of selfbuild,

With the site analysis I looked specially at the local environment, including traffic how people access to site and also the nearby structures. The building that onsite are mainly residential, and most of the users arrive by walking/ cars. And therefore the concept for the pathway was to be easy accessed from nearby carpark. And within the broader pedestrian section.
The analysis of the site are based on the direction of sun path, views direction and movement of users of this building. In-order to create an easier way of access the building are planned to bed located along side the old pool placed on the hill. With access movement being important the proposed plan was first directly a perpendicular movements towards the building, but after reanalysing the traffic environment, realising that with relation to the parking, I decided to shift slightly towards users carpark for an easier access.
Development started with looking back at the trace, and the atmospheric description words.
022
I wanted the Building to have view towards both the beach and back to the town. At the same time being wind efficient so that there could be a more stable structure to withstand the local weather. The orange line demonstrate the movement towards the building.

The second model are composed of similar form but rather, I’ve decided due to the analysis of movement in the building, which changing room should be arranged separately for privacy. Thus the raise in height of the lower decoration structure allows the changing room to be fitted underneath.
Once the function has been fixed, I’ve decided to put the another roof structure for the both reinforcing structure balance and decoration. Also act as an opening allowing for more sunlight into the building.

The factor that I consider fo the path way is to be easily accessible, and has does something more than just a path or stairway, so that I’ve decide to make a part of the stars lot less steeper with a longer decent, and parallel to the ocean, so visitors walking towards the building can take a rest, breath enjoy the view. without continuously walking. The following section and plans are all base on the “A” building
Before I was able to build a topography model I used a tracing paper to trace of there altitude which is indicated with a 5 meter interval. An d this made it a lot easier for me to follow the lines as a cutting guide.
This is the demonstration of the path way as mentioned above, it also features a rain channel which allows the water to escape to prevent water collection possibly causing erosion on the hill side, with the stairs constructed out of stones it is durable and can withstand both salt and rain water.

The earlier plans only consist the context and the building. But was missing the pool, so I went on to add a correct one that includes both the building and the pool.

Plan was a combination of hand drawn and photoshopped enhanced background that shows the content of the building and the pool. The pool have a infinity edge and also waters pass through a filtering system. That are under the building and next to the pool.
1. Changing/ shower room x2 2. Toiletries x2 3. Locker area x1 4. Washing table (2 washbasin)
STRUCTURE
The pole at the end act as a support for these two walls which sits directly on the concrete base for the entire building making the two vertical wall stable from side vibration.
The two wall act as a weight load for both the roof and the upper layer and the bottom part of the wall is slightly thither which allows the floor slab to sit on top and diverse the weight.
The roof structure is supported by an steel frame underneath, and the weight is loaded through out the steel frame onto the main sporting wall below.
Also the advantage of a solid base is that during vibration or huge wind the building will move as a whole instead of the walls making it shock resistant and hence more durable in windy environment.
The whole base of the building is sitting on a concrete base which can prevent erosion from the ocean even in extreme wveather and heavy wave, and can withstand salt water even at high tide.
Toiletries are build separately on the floorings and again the reinforced concrete slab sits on 9 separate supporting structure below, to distribute the weight equally.
The flooring on the second floor is a reinforced concrete floor, which is supported on by the extended part on the side wall. Through wall to the ground.

Design Inspiration CO-CREATED CITY Steve Breen - Artist that resides in the building, loves nature and hiking, during his life he has travel all over the world and hiked as many mountains, and this house is designed to to manipulate that sequence of forest, terrain and nature. The character was chosen ramdomly through a dice and I think it is a very practical as sometimes people like me just can’t decide.

art such as Picasso and many other has included the fourth demotion of time in their painting, the most common way is to draw an element view “different point in time on top of deconstructive and rearranging. Items hanging are simplest form of the elements that composes his life, such as a oil paint canvas an mountain like object suggesting nature and rammed geometrical shapes, hanging freely and as time passes the form would also change. And in the middle is the artist strapped him self a hint of which he is stuck in pas and perhaps afraid of stepping out is comfort zone.

Very important for the studio to have enough light as Breen tends to work in the morning.
The studio will require enough shadow while still having enough light set good lighting condition work.

Development | Ideas The process of finding the ideal place for Breen was to understand and reconstruct the way of his life just like in a creation of a cubism painting. From first finding out the main activity and things important to his life to reconstructing them into infrastructures, this way the building would function perfectly as its designed and also helps the artist creation as a whole.

Original idea was for the studio to be at the ground floor but since the development I have decided to shift the studio to a second floor for more enclosed space.
STRUCTURE | RETHINK
I think there will be a good ventilation as all windows has a perpendicular window that allows the best airflow fo the space, and with building detached and an open backgarden.
| ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS |
During the elopement I had an idea of using a metal “frame as a structure instead of Pole, which also act as a decoration, with the frame in the living room also turned into a tall book shelf.

FUNCTIONALITY | RETHINK After the precedent study I begun thinking the possible iteration fo the place of which is apply different topography that act as an intermediate floor. I realise it could be more than just a difference in hight ceiling, the interiors can also have a different floor heights, and this allows the artist to work in all sorts of body positions. Which suits of idea of natural forest environment, This was inspired by people in the park doing exercise, representation of different position and the most common height of the movement.

SECTION | PLAN This was the second iteration where I decide to rotate the building and also opening up the back garden facade and this leads to a “blurry of boundaries” so it wouldn’t feel like in closed space on the ground floor, and this was part of the characteristic of “cubism”, Combined into architecture. The contrast would be more obvious when it comes to second floor a more enclosed space, that is comfortable for working, and again third floor being the most private place where the artist lives.

SECOND MODEL | NEW IDEAS The second model I decided to lift up make the back into one giant connected space as to which it better suits my concept.
The second floor artist studio is well combined with green space as seen here, although it is not as wide open as the ground floor it gives a more secure feeling.
Ground floor features a high ceiling that allows the artist to invites friends over and enjoy the space, also act as a small exhibition space he planning on any.
The structural decoration that act as a shading component, with its size really enlarged the space with its different high contrasting withe the ceiling, which is a something I didn’t though was going to happened, I really liked this effect.
The same effect is achieved by the giant supporting structure which I decided to make in a “U” shape instead of ordinary rectangular, it mentally beings our visuals to the upwards, result is the enlargement of space.

The shapes of the decorating ring above the stairs really brings the characteristic of cubism in the sense that it the shadow projected during daylight really contrasts the different feeling of the space inside.

The house features an open space at the pack which allows sin though in every floor where the artist works, allowing the sun to heat the space, provides good ventilation, saving energy require in daytime. The opening space are also available to planning some plants and this supports the sustainability of the space.
