IAPS U11 Rugby Festival
Wednesday 6 November 2024
Wednesday 6 November 2024
The 2023-2024 sports programme saw over 22,000 children participate in one of 23 different sports on offer. With 150+ events annually, there is plenty of opportunity for schools to take part in an IAPS event. For the 2024-2025 programme we hope to see even more children taking part in sport.
Thank you for booking onto an U11 rugby festival. This year there will be 50 teams taking part across six tournaments, it is exciting to see the competitions growing year on year.
To ensure consistency, IAPS has created the draws and timings for all the festivals. IAPS has consulted the RFU (national governing body) to ensure that all competitors are playing within the recommended guidance for their age group.
All IAPS rugby tournaments will follow RFU rules. From September to December all teams will be playing the laws an age grade down. It states that competitors should play no more than 70 minutes of rugby a day and no more than 20 minutes per each half. All teams will play the same amount of rugby across all the festivals with no winners. All teams will be awarded a participation prize.
Whether this is your first time at an IAPS event or you have been entering them for many years, we hope your school enjoys the competition. IAPS passionately believes in the importance of sport as part of an all-round education for children. First and foremost, sport is about participation and enjoyment – good luck!
It gives me tremendous pleasure to welcome our guests from all the Prep schools joining us today for the IAPS Rugby Festival. I wish all of the players, coaches and spectators a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of exciting and keenly contested rugby matches. Please join me in supporting all the players and in showing respect for the match officials in what promises to be an excellent set of fixtures.
Mr Matthew Jamieson Interim Headmaster
It is wonderful to welcome so many teams to Sherborne for the IAPS U11 Rugby Festival today. I wish you all a great day and hope regardless of the results and through any challenging games, you all enjoy being in such superb surroundings and learn a lot through each match - what a super experience to be a part of.
Thank you to the referees, coaches, catering and to all who have come to support the children.
Mrs Annie Gent Head
All games will be played according to the U11 Age Grade Rugby rules.
The key elements of the Under 11s Rules of Play are:
• Team numbers: a maximum of 8-a-side
• Maximum pitch size: 60 metres x 35 metres
• Ball Size: 4
• Maximum minutes each half: 15
• Introduction of uncontested scrum
• Nearest 3 players in a scrum (all players trained, late specialisation)
• Contest for the ball (1 player v 1 player)
• Introduction of Maul
• Introduction of Ruck
The rule ensures that everyone in the match day squad gets to play at least half the game time available.
IAPS expects all schools who enter an IAPS tournament to follow this new rule.
All IAPS rugby tournaments are conducted under the England Rugby rules and regulations, including their ruling on gender splits within tournaments.
IAPS believes that the welfare and wellbeing of all children (young people under the age of 18) and adults at risk attending an IAPS event is of the highest concern. All such persons have the right to safety and protection and any suspicions, concerns or allegations of harm will be taken seriously and will be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
IAPS expects all adults who are engaged with the delivery of sports events to fully comply with safeguarding procedures as laid out in the IAPS Safeguarding policy and procedures, and the KCSiE September 2016 document (these are available online: sport.iaps.uk/safeguarding).
IAPS expects all coaches present to be DBS checked and have received relevant safeguarding training at their school/club.
IAPS expects that all adults attending events have read the IAPS code of conduct, photo policy & anti bullying policy. These are available to read and download online: sport.iaps.uk/safeguarding
If you have any safeguarding concerns today, please do not hesitate to speak to Fran Hide or Emily Connell or a member of the organising team.
