As we go through life, we realise nothing is a given. Which makes what we go through in life more interesting and fun sometimes, challenging at others and most often, it offers life lessons. As we finish our last issue for this year, we look back and value the experiences we have had, the trials we faced and the challenges we overcame.

Our cover story on Malta brought back beautiful memories of our time in Malta where we got to spend some quality time with our daughter post her graduation and as she prepared to return to the UK for her Masters. Making every moment count has a new meaning when you know you have little time to make the most of on a holiday that often ends way before you want it to end.

Travelling certainly brings us joy and Malta had everything tourists would want when travelling in terms of culture, food, adventure coupled with the sun, sea and sand offer that seals the deal for a perfect holiday. In this issue we bring you some great destinations that also include Madrid, Los Angeles and of course a down time in Zurich at the Dolder Grand is every luxury traveller’s dream.

If you are in Dubai this season, for food we recommend you head to Salties at Aloft Dubai Creek. It has a lovely chilled out ambience with great food, drinks and an amazing view of the skyline of Dubai.

In this issue we have a host of experts sharing their latest insights in terms of hospitality, retail, and technology. For those seeking retail therapy, check out our selection of gadgets, home decoration, watches, perfumes and more.

Our motoring editor naturally has curated her favourite drives from the last few weeks. Check out the best features of the Golf from Volkswagen, the Nissan Xterra and the new Cadillac Escalade.

We hope you enjoy this issue, and we hope the year ends on a good note for you. We wish you a wonderful festive season and hope you have a fun filled new year.

A HIDDEN GEM MALTA

With 300 days of sunshine a year, as well as seas, lip-smacking Mediterranean food and the greatest density of historic sights of any nation, Malta truly has everything one can want for a fun filled holiday.

Malta is easy to reach, with a flight time of less than three hours and direct routes from most regions in the UK. Travelling around Malta is easy too. It’s not much more than an hour’s drive to anywhere on the main island, and only half an hour on the ferry to more rural getaways in Gozo or tiny Comino. We bring you our favourite experiences in Malta.

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY

The National Museum of Archaeology in the capital, Valletta, is a great place to start your historical journey through Malta. With artefacts dating back to around 5200 B.C., many of the most important finds from around Malta are held here.

THREE CITIES (VITTORIOSA, SENGLEA AND COSPICUA)

The Three Cities are Birgu, also known as Vittoriosa, Senglea (also called Isla) and Bormla (also called Cospicua). The Maltese also refer to the area as Cottonera, a collective name for three medieval fortified cities in the North of Malta.

Birgu is the most popular with many attractions, such as the Maritime Museum, the Malta at War Museum the Inquisitor’s Palace and of course Fort St. Angelo. Bormla is home to an impressive parish church with an oratory full of works of art. Isla hosts two astounding churches and has a lovely garden at its tip overlooking Grand Harbour.

MDINA, THE OLD CAPITAL AND THE SILENT CITY OF MALTA.

Mdina is considered one of Europe's finest examples of an ancient walled city and is extraordinary in its mix of medieval and baroque architecture. It served as the island’s capital until the 16th century with its position on a hill providing protection for the local population.

Today it has museums, historical buildings and beautiful gardens. With no cars and a peaceful atmosphere, Mdina is a great place to visit if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life to stroll and enjoy the beautiful architecture and stunning views.

COMINO ISLAND

We went on a boat cruise to the nearby Comino Island and explored famous sights like the blue Lagoon and Santa Maria Bay, away from crowds and other tourists. It’s a haven for those who love water sports and sailing.

GOZO ISLAND

We enjoyed a road tour of Gozo Island where we explored this magnificent island on a tuk tuk, stopping at hidden and secret spots

which are often difficult to reach by conventional means. Lunch was by the water where fresh seafood was available in abundance. Gozo is a quieter place compared to the mainland of Malta, and it is perfect for a day of relaxation and rest.

POPEYE VILLAGE

Popeye Village is a purpose-built film set from a 1980 musical but is now a village that has been converted into a small attraction fun park, consisting of a collection of rustic wooden buildings. On the day we visited, the site had a festive atmosphere with music and children's activities.

GGANTIJA TEMPLES

This ancient site has found its way onto the UNESCO World Heritage list and is one of the most important archaeological sites in Malta. Located in Xaghra, Gozo, the two temples date from between 3600 and 3200 BC and are among some of the oldest of their kind in the world, they are even older than both Stonehenge and the pyramids in Egypt. Despite their antiquity they are fantastically well preserved and very highly rated by travellers.

HAGAR QIM & MNAJDRA TEMPLES

We loved the megalithic temple Hagar Qim, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dating back to between 3600BC and 3200BC. It is one of the oldest temples in the world. This Neolithic temple complex was constructed around 5000 years ago and is one of the most fascinating in Malta.

The temples are around 500 metres apart and there is a steep hill between the two. It has a hands-on visitors centre to explain the background to the structures, a children's room where kids can build a temple out of blocks, and an atmospheric if not all that informative 4D film introduction.

GRANDMASTERS PALACE

Built in 1571, the Grandmasters Palace in Saint George’s Square, Valletta has always been the seat of government. Here the Palace Armoury, holds weapons from the period of the Knights of Malta, with symbols of the past glories of the Sovereign Hospitaller Military Order of Malta. The Armoury still contains abundant material of Italian, German, French and Spanish origin with an exotic selection of Islamic and Ottoman arms and armour.

The Palace was enlarged by successive Grand Masters to serve as their official residence but today, it is the seat of the Office of the President of Malta.

ST JOHN’S CO-CATHEDRAL

St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta features stunning beautiful baroque architecture, fine art pieces and some exquisite 16th century illuminated manuscripts.

The interior was revamped in the 17th century in exuberant Maltese baroque style, and one of its greatest treasures is a huge painting of John the Baptist by Caravaggio. The deco is encrusted with rich ornamentation, giving the effect of a dusty gold brocade.

HAL SAFLIENI HYPOGEUM

The UNESCO World Heritage listed Hal Saflieni Hypogeum as an ancient underground burial site that visitors can still visit. It is one of the world’s best preserved prehistoric sites with a 6,000-year-old underground burial chamber.

The Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is an underground network of alcoves and corridors carved into soft Globigerina limestone. The builders expanded existing caves and over the centuries excavated deeper, creating a temple, cemetery and funeral hall.

Visitors can enjoy a unique shopping experience on the islands as Malta is home to beautiful clothing and fashion accessories created by award-winning local designers. For food lovers, Malta has a wide range of fancy restaurants to choose from, which are led by worldrenowned chefs.

Malta is easy to reach from the UAE via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines daily and ideal to have a mini stopover vacation in Istanbul on the way back as well. Travelling around Malta is easy because, as mentioned earlier, it is less than an hour’s drive to anywhere on the main island, and only half an hour on the ferry to getaways in Gozo or Comino.

FEMININITY, ARTISTRY AND CREATIVITY

| 7 | INTERVIEW

Coralie Charriol Paul sits at the helm of prestigious luxury timepieces, fine jewelry, and accessories Maison Charriol, founded in 1983 by her father, the French entrepreneur Phillipe Charriol. As Creative Director, Executive Chairwoman and Acting CEO of the company, Coralie sets the strategic and creative priorities for the business, pursuing her father’s legacy in guiding the boundless evolution of the house.

Coralie’s immediate goals are to bridge the gap between the brands’ e-commerce platform and its brick-and-mortar and grow Charriol’s digital reach, to redesign the house’s iconic St. Tropez watch, and to release several jewelry collections, a cable watch bracelet for the Apple watch, and new watch dial animations.

We interview Coralie to get insights on how she gets inspired curating watches, handbags, and she how fuels her passion in gemology and design.

1. HOW DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN THE JEWELRY INDUSTRY?

For me, jewelry is a family affair. My father worked in the industry, and I grew up around his creative energy, constantly designing new watches and jewelry collections in his home office. After graduating from Tufts University in Boston, I joined the family business - first on the creative team and then taking on more business management as time went on. I do think there is something about having grown up around watchmakers and watch lovers that gives you an edge.

2. TELL US A BIT ABOUT CHARRIOL, THE ORIGINS AND USPS.

Charriol was founded by my father, Philippe, four decades ago. We are a family-owned, family-run company so there is a lot of authenticity and passion behind everything we do. Our motto is “L’Art de Vivre la Difference”, and I think that really embodies the Charriol ethos - to live a life with meaning and purpose, but also with a bit of flair. Our pieces are all handmade and of the highest quality materials, but we design for everyday easy wear, nothing precious that feels out-of-touch with modern life. Saint Tropez has always held a special place in the brand story, the easy, casual luxury of a French seaside town.

3. IS THERE A STYLE THAT GOT YOU MOTIVATED TO START DESIGNING?

I have always had a hand in our creative process, but in the last few years had the opportunity to revisit and relaunch some of our classic, best-selling watches. This year, we launched the St Tropez 20, 25 and 30 - updating some of the hardware and offering a really lovely mix of colorways. I think our house codes are very strong and so I get a lot of ideas from just revisiting the archives.

4. ARE THERE ANY FASHION ACCESSORIES YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT?

I start everyday with my watch and build my look around that. I am so lucky to have a really wonderful collection, so I have something for every mood and occasion. I also love earrings and think they go so far in brightening up a look. Everything else is built on those two pieces. Then I top off the look with sunglasses, et voila!

5. WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND YOUR SUCCESS?

I really believe in action. Even if you make mistakes, the best thing you can do is to just keep moving. I’m a morning person and I do my best thinking then. But really it’s about believing in yourself and knowing that as long as you’re putting in the work, things fall into place.

6. WHAT ARE SOME CURRENT TRENDS THAT INTEREST YOU?

Our Mariner Collection features some incredible linked chains that have been very popular, and I think are very on trend. It is interesting to see mixed metals being used more often. I love that style.

7.

ANY KEY CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN YOUR JOB?

We are a small team and I wear many hats. It keeps me motivated and really energized, but it’s a lot to take on while raising three kids and taking care of myself. But ultimately, I’m a people person and I believe in hiring a good team and staying nimble and creative.

8. DO YOU HAVE A ROLE MODEL OR SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE IN YOUR FIELD?

Diane von Furstenberg. She is the pinnacle. Gracious, stylish, generous, and fierce.

9. ANY UPCOMING PLANS AND PROJECTS/ COLLECTIONS?

Of course! We’re always thinking of the future. We have some really special watches coming out in 2023 and 2024. And I am really excited about the work we’re doing on digital. Maybe a Charriol TikTok isn’t far off.

10. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

When I get to travel and meet the many people who have remained loyal to the brand and really understand the spirit of Charriol, I feel so grateful to have dedicated my life to this company that my dad founded. Owning your own business means never really turning off, but in those moments, it’s very worth all the hard work.

Make sure you cut out the “ bad fats” , processed oils which can damage your entire microbiome and thus your overall health. Choose lots of green vegetables. Cut down on sugars as much possible. Source your meat from animal friendly farms and fisherman, to ensure sustainable supplies.

5. GET A GREAT NIGHT’S SLEEP.

Start winding down an hour before bed. Switch off the phone, and all WIFI. Lower the lights, take a calming tea, and put some calming music on or read a book. Take a shower, and or a bath with lovely essential oils before bed and you’ll drift away like a baby.

6. FIND YOUR PURPOSE

When we connect to purpose, we find meaning in what we do. Everything seems worthwhile, and when we involve benefitting others, as well as your -self we gain a deep sense of satisfaction and wellbeing. Finding meaning and purpose is essential to brain health, generating new neurological pathways and strengthening our immune system, alleviating pain, and lowering stress.

Finding purpose can involve finding meaningful work, caring for the elderly, family, or a pet. Volunteering in the many organisations that require our support can bring a deep sense of contribution.

If you are making consistent efforts to improve your mental wellbeing and you find your stress levels are still at optimum, then perhaps its time to seek professional help, and having someone as a guide beside you can often help you to better take care of ourselves.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT IN LUXURY ORGANIZATIONS

“ Customer Engagement and Staying Close to Customers” is one of the most important fundamentals of business that should be considered at the top of the strategic plans of the luxury enterprises. When this receives enough attention with full commitment and passion, it becomes a very valuable tactical action of a business strategy.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT MODEL

Every luxury organization needs a strong customer engagement model. Once this model is developed and implemented throughout the organization in a disciplined manner, it helps to serve the customers at a delightful level. It helps organizations know their customers better and deeper. By engaging, organizations learn the needs, likes, dislikes and preferences of the customers, and take instant actions to either fulfill their needs or solve their problems while they are still in or close to the organizations’ premises. This creates and retains loyalty, which is one of the most important business basics and needs of luxury organizations.

PRODUCT AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

Customer engagement helps to develop the products and services. If you want to identify the most experienced person in your organization, don’t look so far way; that is the person who uses and gains tremendous number of experiences with your products and services. That person is always your customer! Through engagement and listening to them closely, they become a natural member of your R&D team and shares invaluable recommendations with you to improve your offers further.

They help you to learn particular angle where you would be better at something than anybody else in your actual and potential competition. Once you know your customers, you also create segmentation to specifically create or tailor-make your products and services for each segment, as you move your offers away from being a commodity product but strengthen the positioning as a luxury. So, in this way, customer engagement becomes an awesome gift and model for product and service development.

ANTICIPATION

Staying close to customers helps to know them better. This helps to anticipate what they would need or what they would not even think that they would need. This retains and develops business, increases the number of return guests and its ratio, which becomes the base business

of the luxury organizations. When engagement is leveraged, it helps the organizations to anticipate guest needs and fulfill them before they are demanded so that the customers are surprised, delighted, return and furthermore spread the positive word about the organizations.

EFFECTS OF DISENGAGEMENT

Disengagement causes dissatisfaction. Any product or service of the luxury enterprises provided to customers may not meet with the high expectations against what they pay. Due to lack of customer engagement, this may not be communicated with the organizations’ members. If that is the case, customers either object or complain post their experience.

If customer engagement is not strong enough, customers leave the premises with the problems and their experiences and memories, which prevents them to return to patronage or spread positive words about the products and services of the enterprise. This is certainly not desirable.

If the organizations stay away from the customers, they fail to learn their challenges due to lack of engagement, subsequently fail to fix or improve instantly. If they learn, they have a takeaway out of the experience; and they ensure there won’t be any potential dissatisfaction around that particular product or service again in the future.

LOYALTY THROUGH ENGAGEMENT

When there is a strong engagement, customers will not look for an alternative to organizations. They will continue to be loyal. However, when they do not find someone to talk about their experiences at the present time or in the future because engagement is not the tactical model of the business plan of the enterprises, they will certainly look for someone in another organization to engage with and talk. This is partly how the business shifts from one organization to another.

CONCLUSION

Excellent and the most successful companies listen to their customers in a meaningful manner, as other companies only talk about it. They engage and stay close to them. They are obsessed and committed to customers through excellent products and services because they learn, know, anticipate and develop. Customer engagement will continue to remain as one of the most significant tactical actions of the enterprises’ business plans.

BUSINESS AUTOMATION How IFS develops and delivers cloud enterprise software is helping organisations globally | 16 | Trending Business Insights

Recently we ventured to IFS Unleashed in Miami where we learnt from experts how IFS products help companies around the world who manufacture and distribute goods, build and maintain assets, and manage service-focused operations.

The IFS industry's specific products are innately connected to a single data model and use embedded digital innovation so that IFS clients can be at their best when it really matters to their customers. The IFS products transform operations, work efficiently and liberate staff while IFS Cloud helps to reduce the time, effort, and resource burden while increasing the quality of work and experience.

For instance, the IFS Cloud provides organizations intelligent insights and accelerates automation efforts. The enhancements done continually on products support end-to-end process automation and advanced analytics capabilities that impacts organizations across functions.

We ask Mehmood Khan, Managing Director of IFS Middle East South Asia about IFS in the region. Mehmood has over 20 years’ experience in advising companies in digital transformation and new technology. He has played a key instrumental role in growing the IFS business in the Middle East and South Asia in the time he has been with IFS and continues to bring value to customers across the region. Today he operates with a vision to grow and diversify business in the MESA region.

HOW IS IFS TECHNOLOGY ENABLING REMOTE WORKING?

Our region, the Middle East, is notorious for wanting people on site with a culture of operations on site, but the pandemic has forced a culture change. At IFS we do not just provide back-office solutions in finance and HR but we get involved with organisations in all aspects. Whether they are manufacturing naval vessels or maintaining aircraft, what we found is that our customers could actually continue operations even with minimal staff capacity. And that is the same with offshore oil driller companies that work with us in the Middle East.

Post pandemic, some of our customers have realized that a core function like engineering and design does not have to be close to operations. People think about outsourcing HR or outsourcing certain components of payroll. Companies are now outsourcing engineering and design work maybe between India, maybe to Sweden, maybe to the US because they've realized through this process, getting skills in one place is very difficult.

We enable this through technology by getting skills where they are. It is cost-effective with the same quality product at the end. And so companies are starting to change, which is interesting in the Middle East.

TELL US ABOUT IFS IN THE GCC, THE COUNTRIES YOU ARE REPRESENTING AND AN

OVERVIEW OF THE RESPONSE TO IFS FROM THE INDUSTRY?

IFS has been in the Middle East for quite a while, since the early 2000s and in the last five years we have started investing heavily in the region. We opened offices in Riyadh, in Muscat and we have our head office based out of Dubai. We are focused on certain industries like aerospace and defence being our largest industry and we have had a great response from our customers. We are the only platform that provides an end-to-end aerospace and defence solution, all the way from ERP to MRO manufacturing.

WHICH INDUSTRIES ARE

CURRENTLY

MOST RESPONSIVE TO IFS PRODUCTS AND HOW DOES IFS SOFTWARE HELP BUSINESSES RENEW THEIR FOCUS ON SUPPLY CHAIN VALIDATION?

We are starting on our journey into many industries and energy is one of our core focus areas. A lot of the countries in the GCC are diversifying and that means that oil majors are looking at joint ventures to start onboarding a lot of those capabilities that were run by external companies. But most importantly, we extend processes into client’s operations and asset management operations, so they have a single platform. Also, the largest telco in the region has chosen IFS for service management to make sure that they serve up to 10 million customers. We have been growing faster than we even anticipated, but that's a good challenge.

WHAT KEY TRENDS ARE YOU NOTICING CURRENTLY AND WHAT ARE YOUR USPS THAT ARE HELPING YOU GROW IN THE GCC REGION?

Customers are looking for finance, HR and procurement solutions and our HR solution can tell you if the candidate has right qualifications, if he/she can do the job and if the resources to do it is available. We have end to end solutions which is our key USP.

We are changing as fast as regulations change with the ability to deploy on cloud and enable customers to track their progress as they want quick results.

TELL US HOW IFS CLOUD IS ENABLING A FAST-TRACKED ADOPTION OF DIGITAL CAPABILITIES AND UPDATING THE SOLUTIONS AS YOU REVEAL NEW INNOVATIONS.

Well, it really depends on the case of the migration that the company wants. You should never just update the technology for the sake of doing it as it must have business value. We encourage adopting good business processes customised to the needs of the business and we offer either updates where its required or innovations that can transform businesses and their capabilities for the better.

For instance, an organization's environmental, social, and governance goals are always in the spotlight. IFS tools and innovations provide the data to show progress against commitments and demonstrate accountability and transparency. We help clients who are focused on ESG goals and making an impact on the planet.

OSPREY
THE WORLD’S MOST VERSATILE AIRCRAFT
BOEING V-22

The development of new technology is central to the integration and transformation of military operations. Proven throughout history with examples like the speed and range of vehicles, the efficiency of production, or innovation of new ideas to solve previously unsolvable problems, technology has radically shaped national and global defense strategies.

The most versatile and game-changing technologies have enabled operators to complete more tasks with less economic and physical resources.

One such revolutionary piece of technology is tiltrotor, exemplified by the V-22, the Osprey combines the vertical takeoff, hover, and vertical landing qualities of a helicopter with the long-range, fuel efficiency, and speed characteristics of a turboprop aircraft.

The Osprey’s multi-mission advantage across a full range of military operations means fewer resources are required to complete more tasks, improving mission efficiency and reducing logistic costs. From 1984 through 2007 over twenty studies compared the V-22 to all currently available and proposed rotorcraft and showed the V-22 as the most cost-effective solution.

With over 400 aircraft accumulating 650,000 flight hours for the U.S. military alone, the world’s only military tiltrotor in production enhances versatility and interoperability throughout the world.

Initially developed as an aircraft for the United States Marine Corps to conduct combat and assault support, the Osprey ensures that service members can conduct

diverse missions throughout the world’s most demanding operating environments.

The V-22 Osprey allows Marines to quickly deploy troops, equipment, and supplies from ships and land bases with the speed, range, and versatility not previously possible by any single platform. These characteristics offer the tactical flexibility to deploy with a smaller logistical footprint and without a runway to access unreachable areas with any other aircraft.

Being able to transport troops and equipment faster and with greater precision is just one benefit of the Osprey. The tiltrotor also enhances capabilities for other types of missions where response time is critical.

Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief, HADR, missions immediately benefit from the enhanced speed, range, and precision. One such mission was Operation Damayan. After Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated parts of the Philippines in 2013, the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade deployed the V-22 to provide assistance.

The V-22 stood out as the most capable aircraft to support over a long distance by traveling more than 1,100 miles and providing immediate support in the disaster area. The Osprey’s helped evacuate 1,200 people and delivered 20 tons of critical supplies to areas where planes and helicopters couldn’t reach alone.

For more than 30 years, the Osprey has advanced single aircraft capabilities and radically enhanced mission capabilities. As the needs of the military continue to evolve to the modern world, so too does the Osprey.

On a positive note, 70% of respondents say that their employer provides them with a health and wellbeing plan, workshops, or educational sessions. 80% believe that their current workplace provides a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Additionally, two-thirds of professionals (66%) are satisfied with the level of communication that exists within their organization.

According to survey respondents, employers can take several actions to contribute in reducing stress at the workplace. These include offering a flexible workplace environment (53%), providing time / resources for physical activity (24%), organizing more social activities for the team (17%) and encouraging healthy eating habits (5%).

Data for the ‘Health and Wellbeing in the MENA’ survey was collected online from October 3 to November 2, 2022. Results are based on a sample of 2,833 respondents from the following countries: UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Yemen, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Sudan among others.

ARCADIA A96 WELLBEING ON THE WATER

Astrong and almost overwhelming desire for a new form of wellbeing is trending in many areas, embracing not only physical and mental wellness linked to sport and meditation, but also the search for an authentic bond with nature that engages all five senses and for a social life based on genuine sharing. This across-the-board trend is the springboard for the new project from Arcadia Yachts, the shipyard that has always had a focus on emerging trends and a willingness to innovate in the industry: A96, a yacht over 29 meters long (CE Category A) and almost 8 meters in the beam, with five cabins and crew quarters sleeping five.

Wellbeing is this project’s guiding star. The concept, exterior styling and choice of technology for A96 have been developed by the shipyard to reflect this search for wellness in every detail, reprising and amplifying the benefits of the two previous lines: on one hand A96 offers spacious stern terraces with views of the water and a propulsion system providing excellent manoeuvrability and a top speed of 24 knots, typical for Sherpa yachts, and on the other delivers the huge volumes and superior service levels of the brand’s A range.

In addition, the effort to make contact with nature is much deeper than the current market offering: the settings establish an ongoing dialogue between interior and exterior, with huge transparent SLIDING doors and windows that can be opened to let nature in, quite literally as a beloved guest. The spaces are flooded with natural light and immersed in the sounds and scents of the sea, becoming at one with the surroundings.

From the swim platform to the bow, the settings flow seamlessly into one another, allowing the owner to choose between the conviviality of the main deck, a more discrete setting on the upper deck, and total privacy in a bow

area ideal for spending time at anchor in roads and marina. These features all contribute to the idea of the yacht as an ideal resort to get back in shape and restore the energy needed for everyday life.

Sliding doors make for highly versatile interiors. In the living areas on the Main and Upper Decks, the extensive side and aft walls can be completely opened, transforming these settings quite literally into open air spaces. High service standards are ensured by the clear separation of guest and crew flows (with a dedicated crew stairway), by the super-modern and fully appointed pantry, and by the possibility of including a second day toilet on the Upper Deck.

To continue this design approach in the interiors, the yard asked Lobanov to decorate the settings with natural and where possible eco-friendly materials, opting for a design with soft lines and furnishings that are pleasing to the touch.

DESIGNING THE YACHTING WELLBEING EXPERIENCE

A96 has been designed not only to be the ultimate representation of wellbeing on the water in the 90 to 100-foot segment, but also to offer three unique pluses in terms of volume, top speed (up to 24 knots with the optional motorization) and usable surface area totalling more than 400 square meters. A chain of highly challenging objectives, all to be combined in one project.

Arcadia Yachts technical department therefore worked hard on optimizing the weights and increase the structural comfort using the most sophisticated software available, carbon fiber inserts in addition to resin, and through an extensive use of infusion technology in particular on the main and upper decks and the deckhouse. Finally, all the wiring and piping systems have been optimized and the thermo-acoustic insulation solution of the engine room was made even more efficient through the use of innovative materials. The final result of displacement at full load of "only" 130 tons allows the project to achieve the top speed target.

To deliver high performance and resort-level comfort, the propulsion system consists of four Volvo Penta IPS1.200 units (or optionally IPS1.350), making it possible to optimize the living space and shift the source of noise and vibration aft. The benefits of this integrated solution are undeniable, with excellent manoeuvrability through joystick as well as pitching stability thanks to the interceptors and dynamic positioning system.

The shallow draught and the limited size of the engines, which allowed to upgrade the engine room in compliance with the increasingly stringent emission regulations standards, make A96 a yacht that can cruise in any waters.

Finally, the optional silent mode system rated over 100kWh, powered in part by the solar panels, provides up to 8-9 hours in silent mode on board at night, while the cabins offer guests the possibility of setting the temperature and taking advantage of a quiet-running air-conditioning solution that delivers a uniform temperature in each individual area, ensuring a good night’s sleep. Adding to cruising comfort are CMC Marine’s latest generation of environmentally friendly Waveless Stab40 stabilizer fins.

A96 will be premiered at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, ushering in the new course charted by the shipyard founded in 2008, which continues to be ahead of the curve, as it was for environmental awareness, and designs the yacht of the future, created in response to an increasingly clear trend in our everyday lives.

EXTRAORDINARY DESIGN THE NEW PEARL 72

The hotly anticipated Pearl 72 launched at Florida’s famous Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show - with two master cabins, four ensuite guest cabins, and a crew cabin, plus a garage large enough for tender and a jet ski, the Pearl 72 certainly enjoyed a gracious reception.

Fresh from her completed sea trials, she is already cruising around the sunshine state, getting acquainted with the beautiful coastal waters. The American market is increasingly important for the British brand as its dealer network expands to meet growing demand, with the recent addition of Jeff Brown Yachts joining Atlantic Yacht & Ship as Pearl’s US dealers. The latest edition of Bill Dixon’s coordinated exterior design and naval architecture is well-matched by the celebrated new interior design theme “Indulgence” by Kelly Hoppen CBE.

In terms of layout, the Pearl 72 makes a unique introduction to the size-class: two Master Cabins. One is forward with a private entrance, as typically seen on much larger yachts, and the second is full beam amidships. In addition to providing an ideal solution for co-owners who enjoy the yacht together, the innovative layout allows owners to enjoy a beautiful view even when moored stern-to in a marina. There are two further ensuite double cabins plus accommodation for the crew, in addition to an exceptional garage with space for a William 345 tender (or similar) and a jet ski.

MODERN EXTERIOR DESIGN

About the 22-metre Pearl 72 with a 5.7-metre beam, Exterior Designer Bill Dixon said, “Every element of the 72’s design follows from the core identity that she is a Pearl. But with this new yacht, we have evolved to a higher level. The hull glass has been expanded for a more modern look, combined with the sporty stance which she inherited from the recent Pearl 62 – a marker of the new generation. The lines are as elegant as ever, now a bit sleeker and more streamlined, and the use of spheric glass gives her curves in all the right places. As for the layout, we were as shrewd as ever to use the available space to our maximum advantage.”

REINVENTING THE PEARL LOOK WITH EACH NEW MODEL

Kelly Hoppen Interiors has continued to refine the design of Pearl Yachts, taking the world-famous look one step further with the introduction of a new interior theme - “Indulgence”. The design intent of this yacht was to capture New York City urban living on water while enhancing and working with the incredible mechanical features that have been achieved. An array of materials including high gloss veneers, satin stones and contrasting metal detailing has been used and layered throughout to set up enchanting reflections and luxurious tones that fuse the ocean and interiors together.

DRIVING INNOVATION IN THE MIDDLE EAST WITH KUBERNETES

Container use in enterprises is exploding across the globe. Kubernetes, the de facto platform for orchestrating containers today, is an open-source container orchestration platform that automates deploying, managing and scaling containerized applications. A Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) survey found that 92% of responding companies run containers in production, and 83% of those deployments use Kubernetes. The Middle East is not far behind! According to findings of the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2022, 69% of UAE organizations and 76% of Saudi Arabian organizations are already running containers in production, while 29% and 22% respectively plan to do so in the next 12 months.

WHY CONTAINERS AND KUBERNETES?

The advantages of a virtualized infrastructure are well documented. Greater

workload mobility, availability of resources, automated operations and increased performance are all benefits of virtualization that make IT simpler to manage and less costly to own and operate. Containers are a lighterweight, more agile way of handling virtualization. Without the need of a hypervisor, organizations leveraging containers can enjoy faster resource provisioning and speedier availability of new applications. Instead of dedicating one operating system for each application, multiple applications can run independently from each other on the same operating system, which means less hardware and licenses and reduced load on servers.

Containers and Kubernetes have greatly simplified operations for DevOps teams. Previously, to create a virtual machine or to provision a physical server, developers needed to talk to a number of different units including the infrastructure team, backup administrators and network administrators.

| 34 | Trending Business Insights IT

With containers and Kubernetes, that workflow is not needed anymore. Developers have become the A-team and are responsible for everything. The infrastructure team is still required to provision physical servers and put in the layer of Kubernetes and hypervisors, but they are no longer needed to create new applications or the resources needed for the applications. All this means that companies can go to market with new applications and technologies, internally or externally, much faster. The provisioning phase of any application – the testing and moving it from development stage to production stage – now takes place in a very short time.

Also, with app deployments accelerating, very often companies experience huge server workloads. For high availability, Kubernetes can shift from one cluster or one node or one server to another very easily, thus making processing faster and more efficient. It optimizes the response time and evenly distributes tasks to avoid overloading compute nodes. Kubernetes can load balance by creating more microservices and containers to serve the excess load. When the load scales down, those containers are deleted.

In simple terms, what Kubernetes has done, is to decouple the application from the data and the underlying infrastructure. The repeatable service and repeatable function becomes an independent piece of code that can be replicated to any number of servers, to any infrastructure or to any site, that would give organizations and their customers much more agility, resiliency and a much faster go-to-market. Kubernetes enables organizations to create self-healing, high available applications.

KUBERNETES IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Enterprises that we talk to in the Middle East have a good understanding of Kubernetes. It’s not just a buzzword - like in the early days of Cloud, companies were using the term ‘Cloud’ quite loosely by saying that they were moving to Private Cloud or Public Cloud, when most of the time they meant they were going to virtualize their environment. With Kubernetes, however, regional enterprises now have skilled teams in place (skillsets are quite unique in this space) and because it is controlled by developers and not infrastructure teams, there is a much better and deeper understanding which ultimately leads to high quality deployments.

In Saudi Arabia, which is the biggest IT market in the region, government agencies are the leading adopters of Kubernetes technologies, followed by banks and financial institutions. Typically these organizations have a large number of users of digital services. The reasons for high adoption rates are clear.

Government entities providing public services are unable to predict the number of users that will be accessing their services. If they decide to go with a traditional IT model of physical infrastructure and virtualization, and estimate that a maximum of 50,000 users would access their systems, then they would need to pay upfront for an infrastructure that can accommodate all these users, involving an undesirably high CAPEX.

With Kubernetes, as explained earlier, because services and applications are decoupled from the data and the operating system, those services can scale up and down easily and the customer doesn't need to make a huge upfront investment to have dedicated physical servers for each application or service or each operating system. The self-healing aspect of a Kubernetes environment is another big advantage. Any microservice or replica of a microservice that is not running properly can be restarted easily without affecting the overall service. Self-healing translates to better uptime in terms of the availability of the service to customers and end users.

The competitive nature of the banking and financial industry is a big driver for Kubernetes adoption. Banks are constantly trying to be the first-tomarket when it comes to innovative applications and services. Kubernetes short circuits the laborious app provisioning cycle, making it quick and easy to spin-up apps.

PROTECTING KUBERNETES ENVIRONMENTS

There is no doubt that the attack surface is growing as more companies adopt containers and do their orchestration using Kubernetes. The complexity that early adopters are finding is the lack of data management and data integrity when it comes to protecting

Kubernetes and container workloads. Kubernetes and containers are often compared to virtual machines, but it is a very different approach. It is very much focused on a different persona. The person that looks after the lifecycle of containers in a Kubernetes environment is not your traditional operations infrastructure admin.

They are focused on the application and have more of a DevOps function, but also understand the platform where the application lives. Bringing the infrastructure or platform closer to the application carries its own benefits anyway.

But this same approach means that data integrity has to be looked at differently than how we approach virtual machine backup. Kubernetes environments require an application-centric approach over an infrastructure focus. This is why regional enterprises need to look at modern data protection technologies that work against a wide range of Kubernetes application stacks and deployment methods, like Kasten K10 by Veeam for example, that completes that ability to protect these new cloud-native workloads.

5 RANSOMWARE PROTECTION STRATEGIES FOR 2023

If the growth of ransomware attacks in 2022 indicates what the future holds, security teams everywhere should expect to see this attack vector become even more popular in 2023. In just the first half of 2022, the number of new ransomware variants we identified increased by nearly 100% compared to the previous six-month period, with our FortiGuard Labs team documenting 10,666 new ransomware variants in 1H 2022 compared to just 5,400 in 2H 2021. This explosive growth in new ransomware variants is primarily thanks to more attackers taking advantage of Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) subscriptions on the dark web.

However, even with the increase in ransomware variants, the techniques we see bad actors using to deliver ransomware remain largely the same. This predictability is good news because security teams have a reliable blueprint for protecting against these attacks. Here's a closer look at ransomware mitigation strategies and how you can implement these in your organization.

WHAT IS RANSOMWARE?

Ransomware is malware that holds data hostage in exchange for a ransom. It threatens to publish, block, or corrupt data—or prevent a user from working

on or accessing their computer unless they meet the attacker’s demands. Today, ransomware is often sent through phishing emails. These malicious attachments infect a user’s computer once opened. Ransomware can also be spread through drive-by downloading, which happens when a user visits a website that happens to be infected. The malware on that site is downloaded and installed without the user realizing it.

Social engineering often plays a role in a ransomware attack as well. This is when an attacker tries to manipulate someone into divulging confidential information. One common social engineering tactic is to send emails or text messages to scare the target into sharing sensitive information, opening a malicious file, or clicking on a malicious link.

WHAT IS RANSOMWARE MITIGATION?

Attempted attacks and data breaches are inevitable, and no organization wants to be forced to decide between paying a ransom and losing important data. Fortunately, those aren’t the only two options. The best path forward is to take appropriate steps to safeguard your networks, which will lessen the chances your enterprise will be hit with ransomware. This approach requires

| 36 | Trending Business Insights IT

a layered security model that combines network, endpoint, edge, application, and data-center controls, as well as updated threat intelligence.

In addition to implementing the right security tools and processes, don’t forget the role cybersecurity education plays in your mitigation strategy. Teaching employees how to spot a ransomware attack—and educating them about strong cyber hygiene practices in general—is a great defense against clever attackers.

UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS THAT MAKE RANSOMWARE MITIGATION NECESSARY

Look around any organization, and you'll likely find security “gaps” that increase the chances of a business falling victim to a ransomware attack. Here are several common challenges security teams and their organizations face, which can make them more vulnerable to cyber incidents.

• LACK OF CYBER HYGIENE KNOWLEDGE AMONG EMPLOYEES

Human behavior continues to be a significant factor in most security incidents. Beyond understanding the signs of ransomware, a lack of general cybersecurity education among employees can put your organization at risk. According to the Verizon 2022 Data Breach Investigations Report, 82% of breaches that occurred in the past year involved the human element.

• WEAK PASSWORD POLICIES

Insufficient policies relating to employee credentials—or having no policy— increase the likelihood that an organization will experience a security breach. Compromised credentials are involved in nearly 50% of attacks.

• INSUFFICIENT SECURITY MONITORING AND PROCESSES

No single tool offers everything your security team needs to monitor for and protect against potential cyber incidents such as ransomware. A layered security approach can help you adequately manage your enterprise’s risk.

• STAFFING SHORTAGES AMONG SECURITY AND IT TEAMS

It’s no secret that you must have individuals with the right skill sets on your team to support monitoring and risk mitigation efforts to combat cybercrime effectively. Yet data shows that the cybersecurity skills gap presents an ongoing challenge for CISOs: how to attract and retain new talent while ensuring current team members get the necessary training and upskilling opportunities.

LATEST RANSOMWARE

ATTACKS TO LEARN FROM

Ransomware continues to get nastier and more expensive, impacting companies in every industry and geography. While most of us recall recent high-profile ransomware attacks involving companies such as Colonial Pipeline and JBS, countless other ransomware incidents occur that don't make the national news. However, many ransomware attacks can be prevented by applying strong cyber hygiene practices—including offering ongoing cyber awareness training for employees—and focusing on implementing Zero

TRUST NETWORK ACCESS (ZTNA) MEASURES AND ENDPOINT SECURITY.

5 RANSOMWARE PROTECTION BEST PRACTICES

Effective ransomware detection requires a combination of education and technology. Here are some of the best ways to detect and prevent the evolution of current ransomware attacks:

1. EDUCATE YOUR EMPLOYEES ABOUT THE HALLMARKS

2. USE DECEPTION TO LURE (AND HALT) ATTACKERS

A honeypot is a decoy consisting of fake repositories of files designed to look like attractive targets for attackers. You can detect and stop the attack when a ransomware hacker goes after your honeypot. Not only does cyber deception technology like this use ransomware’s own techniques and tactics against itself to trigger detection, but it uncovers the attacker’s tactics, tools, and procedures (TTP) that led to its successful foothold in the network so your team can identify and close those security gaps.

3. MONITOR YOUR NETWORK AND ENDPOINTS

By conducting ongoing network monitoring, you can log incoming and outgoing traffic, scan files for evidence of attack (such as failed modifications), establish a baseline for acceptable user activity, and then investigate anything that seems out of the ordinary. Deploying antivirus and anti-ransomware tools is also helpful, as you can use these technologies to whitelist acceptable sites. Lastly, adding behavioral-based detections to your security toolbox is essential, particularly as organizations’ attack surfaces expand and attackers continue to up the ante with new, more complex attacks.

4. LOOK OUTSIDE YOUR ORGANIZATION

Consider taking an outside-the-network view to the risks posed to an organization. As an extension to a security architecture, a DRP service can help an organization see and mitigate three additional areas of risk: digital asset risks, brand-related risks, and underground and imminent threats.

5. AUGMENT YOUR TEAM WITH SOC-AS-A-SERVICE IF NEEDED

The current intensity we see across the threat landscape, both in velocity and sophistication, means we all need to work harder to stay on top of our game. But that only gets us so far. Working smarter means outsourcing specific tasks, like incident response and threat hunting. This is why relying on a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) provider or a SOC-as-a-service offering is helpful. Augmenting your team in this way can help to eliminate noise and free up your analysts to focus on their most important tasks.

OF RANSOMWARE:

Security awareness training for today’s workforce is a must and will help organizations guard against an ever-evolving array of threats. Teach employees how to spot signs of ransomware, such as emails designed to look like they are from authentic businesses, suspicious external links, and questionable file attachments.

While the volume of ransomware isn't slowing, numerous technologies and processes are available to help your team mitigate the risks associated with this attack. From ongoing cyber education programs to strengthening ZTNA efforts, we can keep crafty attackers at bay.

IMPROVING SUSTAINABILITY IN DATACENTRES

NUTANIX SPONSORED REPORT EXAMINES POTENTIAL IMPACT OF DATACENTRE MODELS ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CARBON FOOTPRINT

Nutanix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTNX) a leader in hybrid multicloud computing, has today announced that, in response to the global climate crisis and the recent energy crisis, it has sponsored an in-depth report to help business decision makers not only minimise energy costs but radically cut the carbon footprint of their datacentre assets.

The current energy crisis has led to soaring energy costs across Europe, making energy efficiency and supply a number one priority for CIOs and datacentre providers alike. Events such as COP27 raised awareness of the need for businesses, across the board, to put sustainability and climate protection at the top of the strategic agenda. However, while the majority are keen to do just that, there is little in the way of objective information when it comes to what the options are, the comparative benefits and the inherent risks of different approaches. Particularly when it comes to IT infrastructure and the datacentre, which need to be high on the agenda for organisations’ net zero plans to succeed.

“Datacentres and digital infrastructures as a whole account for a substantial share of worldwide energy consumption with a considerable carbon footprint,” commented Sammy Zoghlami, SVP Nutanix EMEA, “In EMEA alone datacentres consume over 90TWh per year with an emissions level equivalent to roughly 5.9 million vehicles (27 million tonnes CO²e). Action here can have a huge impact on climate change but has to be tempered against the need for businesses to compete effectively in increasingly digital marketplaces. Hence this Nutanix sponsored report which examines in detail how different datacentre technologies compare when businesses examine the pros and cons of looking to achieve their climate neutrality goals.”

KEY FINDINGS OF THIS REPORT INCLUDE

● Alongside automation, innovative cooling systems and renewable energies, the transformation of traditional 3-Tier architectures towards next generation models - like hyperconverged infrastructures (HCI) - will be key to realising the savings potential in datacentre energy consumption and carbon footprint.

● Measurable benefits could be achieved across a range of organisations from large scale hyperscalers and managed service providers to large enterprises and small businesses.

● In comparison to traditional 3-tier IT platforms, next generation HCI architectures could potentially reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint by roughly 27% per year.

● Across the EMEA region HCI transformation has the potential to reduce energy consumption by 56.7 TWh and cut emissions by 14.2 million tonnes of CO²e over the period 2022-2025

● By 2025 a full changeover to HCI across UK datacentres could potentially save 8.1 TWh of energy and 1.8 million tonnes of CO²e, roughly the same as taking 400,000 cars off the road

● By 2025 a full changeover to HCI across datacentres in the Middle East & Africa could potentially save 4 TWh of energy and roughly 2.4 million tonnes of CO²e.

● Large-scale co-location datacentres offer a much lower PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) factor than typical on-premise facilities. Switching these to HCI architectures could potentially boost energy saving towards 30-40%.

● Next-generation co-location datacentres could provide access to renewable energy through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and so contribute to an organisation’s climate neutrality goal without having to invest in CO2 certificates.

● Businesses planning the move towards an HCI architecture within their own on-premise datacentres should also evaluate next generation cooling technologies as energy prices rise.

● The datacentre industry has delivered significant energy efficiency improvements over past decades and is now one of the most advanced in terms of both energy efficiency and decarbonisation. Nevertheless, future energy demand will rise substantially and will result in large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions. Innovative technologies, like HCI, could create considerable efficiency potentials and have a strong impact on energy cost savings.

ABOUT THE REPORT

The results and forecasts in the Nutanix sponsored report are based on an original analysis created by independent research and advisory firm Atlantic Ventures in March 2022. It compares and contrasts a variety of technological models with particular reference to traditional threetier architectures and more recent hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) approaches where it models a typical Western European manufacturer to estimate datacentre energy requirements and carbon footprint across different localities. The potential effects of hyper converged infrastructures (HCI) on energy costs and CO2 emissions in the datacentre are examined as part of this model calculation. For the first time, the report offers a forecast with regard to the aggregated savings potential at European level (EMEA) and individual national markets. This highlights what a broad-based trans-formation towards modern datacentre architectures could achieve in terms of energy efficiency and climate protection.

“The aim of this report is to offer business decision makers suggestions and food for thought for designing an energy efficient and climatefriendly IT infrastructure,” commented Dr Carlo Velten, Director, Atlantic Ventures. “In particular, hyperconverged infrastructures where we look in detail at the technology and quantify the potential benefits at both a European and national level. We hope it will be of value and provide real insight when it comes to understanding what a broad-based transformation towards modern datacentre models could achieve in terms of energy efficiency and climate protection.”

TOP THINGS TO DO IN MADRID

With the holidays approaching, there’s no better time to start planning for your winter getaway. Madrid is one of the most celebrated and beautiful places in the world and a magnet for elite international tourism, and shopping is always top of the list for Madrid visitors.

My daughter has a soft spot for the the iconic El Corte Inglés department store in Castellana, where she had her first ever VIP shopping experience and did a colour consultation that showed her which colours suited her the best.

The store is a draw for shopping lovers as one of the world’s largest stores. There are many amazing activities for the discerning traveller within close proximity.

And while you are in Madrid, here are some of Madrid’s top sights to catch between shopping sprees at El Corte Ingles.

1: SANTIAGO BERNABÉU STADIUM

Just a nine-minute walk from El Corte Inglés, Madrid’s main football stadium is home to the city’s most popular team: Real Madrid. Opened in 1947, the stadium is enormous and has undergone multiple renovations over the years, now seating up to 81,044 people. There is no better way to experience an integral part of the Spanish culture than to cheer on Real Madrid at a game.

2: PUERTA DE ALCALÁ

A quick 10-munite drive from El Corte Inglés, the Puerta de Alcalá, meaning the “Citadel Gate” and derived from the Arabic word al-qal’a, is a neo-classical monumental city gate, and is regarded as the first modern, post-roman, triumphal arch in Europe. It was built between 1769 and 1778, using granite and stone from Colmenar and makes a wonderful backdrop for a memorable picture.

3: EL PRADO ART MUSEUM

Not falling short on culture, Madrid’s Prado Art Museum is one of the world’s first museums to hold a royal collection of art from the 15th to the 17th centuries, including the works of Velazquez’s ‘Las Meninas’ and El Greco’s ‘The Annunciation’. Art lovers can also head to the neighbouring Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza finishing the

4: PLAZA DE CIBELES SQUARE

Adjacent to Paseo del Prado, marvel at marble sculptures in the city’s most famous plaza. Known for its stunning architecture, the fountain features the Roman goddess Cybele who represents Earth, agriculture and fertility, and was adopted by the city’s football team. After a winning match for Real Madrid, this is the spot to celebrate the victory.

5: EL CORTE INGLÉS

The seven-storey department store is a hotspot for visiting fashion mavens. International visitors receive a 10% reward discount card year round and can ask to have their shopping delivered to their hotel or home country, along with assistance with their tax refund. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, this shopping mall is in the heart of Madrid, and a stone’s throw away from many local attractions. The store features over 8,000 Spanish and international brands and is the ideal answer for the most discerning shopper with its comprehensive collection of designers.

People travel the world to find the beautiful and fantastic, and Madrid brims with exceptional experiences, whether it is the latest collection of a fashion designer at El Corte Inglés, a painting at one of its museums, or historic buildings that defy time. Let the imagination run wild and find inspiration at every corner of this storied city. El Corte Inglés is an iconic landmark of fashion that marks itself as a destination in its own right.

A PLACE LIKE NO OTHER Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a trend-setting global metropolis with a fascinating history, a rich cultural heritage and is the center of the global film industry. It enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate and moderate temperatures with low humidity year-round.

Every year in November, the world top motoring journalists gather in Pasadena to drive cars nominated for the World Car of the Year Awards and it is one of my favourite trips in the whole year. I enjoy driving the latest cars through the city and up to the mountains via the Angeles Crest Highway.

Los Angeles has a charm that makes you come back to the city again and again - we love the iconic Hollywood sign, behind-the-scenes tours of movie studios, cultural attractions, art galleries and more. It is truly the entertainment capital of the world with Michelin-starred restaurants and an amazing coastline. Below I highlight some of my top five favourite spots in LA.

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD

Universal Studios Theme Park has mind-blowing rides that change

regularly based on blockbuster movies, and it is also a working movie studio and an attraction everyone can enjoy. When you are tired of the rides, you can check out CityWalk, a three-block entertainment area, with shopping, dining, and theaters.

GRIFFITH PARK AND GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

Griffith Park is the largest city park in Los Angeles, home to the Los Angeles Zoo, the Griffith Observatory, a planetarium, and a Greek theater. It has golf courses, tennis courts, hiking trails, walking trails and scenic drives through the mountains with views over the city and beyond.

HOLLYWOOD

Hollywood as a suburb has a unique history and iconic sites. The attractions in Hollywood are closely associated with the film industry and the glamour of the silver screen. Check out the hillside Hollywood sign, Hollywood Boulevard and of course a shopping trip on Rodeo Drive. My favourite hotel to stay in is Beverly Wilshire which has all the best brands close to it.

UNPARALLELED LEVELS OF SOPHISTICATION THE DOLDER GRAND

With spectacular views of the alps and Lake Zurich, the Dolder Grand, renowned as Zurich’s most prestigious address since 1899, is a city resort atop a hill with close proximity to beautiful nature and wilderness areas as well as downtown locations for shopping, art, entertainment and. more

Every part of the hotel is sophisticated. Built in the 19th century in Swiss style, Dolder Grand was designed to be a place for relaxation and escape, with past guests that include historical figures such as Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, the Shah of Iran as well as luminaries and celebrities of modern times such as Leonardo DiCaprio and the legendary director David Fincher who have sought out this haven of calm.

What attracts guests the most is the abundance of nature at Dolder Grand which is breath-taking and draws a picture of perfection with an aura of serenity, especially for GCC families who relish the good weather of Switzerland.

Guests at Dolder Grand enjoy a peaceful experience with stunning views during meals that offer a gastronomical experience and exquisite cuisine with a difference. At the Saltz restaurant, guests can enjoy authentic Arabic flavours, thanks to the talents of Oriental Chef de Cuisine, Firas El-Borji. His creations can also be enjoyed in the privacy of guest rooms or at the Lobby & Bar. Personally, I enjoyed the outdoor dining the most while taking in the fresh air and the majestic views of the alps.

As a member of the Leading Hotels of the World and Swiss Deluxe Hotels, the 5-star-deluxe property carries the signature of architects Norman Foster as well as Sylvia Sepielli and is one of Zurich’s most famous landmarks. The hotel has 175 luxurious rooms and suites, a separate ladies' and gentlemen's spa generous banqueting and seminar facilities and a remarkable art collection.

The premium suites extend over hundreds of square metres and some feature steam showers, whirlpools, and spacious terraces with sweeping views. Each suite has been inspired by a specific "patron", such as the Maestro Suite, named after conductor Herbert von Karajan and abounding in musical cues, including a grand piano and lyre as decoration.

The rocking Suite 100, inspired by the Rolling Stones and the infamous 100 Club in London, is dominated by dark colours such as black and deep purple and the Masina Suite, named after the Italian actress Giulietta Masina, celebrates the glamour of fifties designs.

The Terrazza and Carezza Suites are designed with specific patterns and colours, predominantly gold, stone and wood, to suit the tastes and preferences of Arab guests. Covering 2,300 sq ft, the Carezza’s vaulted ceilings and cutting-edge design provides plenty of space for guests to come together either in the luxurious interior, or on the terrace that surrounds the entire suite, providing unique views of Zurich.

The Terrazza spreads out over 3,900 sq ft, covering two floors, and offering up to four bedrooms, including an exquisite master suite. Its modern interior takes on classic lines, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide plenty of natural light and stunning views of the city. With a private entrance, the Terrazza is particularly suited to long-stay guests, while the hotel’s butler team provide specific one-on-one service to guests.

The Dolder Grand Spa philosophy for well-being is based on four main principles: relaxation, beauty, vitality, and detoxification with an extensive menu of treatments. With a separate ladies' and gentlemen's sections, the spa comprises 20 treatment rooms, two private spa suites, a wellness centre, and an aqua zone, designed for guests to relax and unwind.

On arrival at The Dolder Grand, I indulged in an art tour as the hotel is home to more than 100 pieces of art, which are on display provided by the owner’s private collection and includes pieces by Salvador Dali and Takashi Murakami. The grounds are studded with sculptures everywhere and the three-piece reclining figure of Henry Moore outside one of the new wings stands out.

My favourite experience was the exceptional concierge service - one of its kind in Zurich, offering e-bikes, complimentary guest cars or shuttle buses, as well as childcare services. The concierge team always knows what's going on around Zurich and share tips and recommendations for excursions and activities. The kid's room is open on weekends for children aged three to 12 and is filled with supervised activities to keep them busy and active.

award winning Dolder Grand is the perfect base to enjoy Zurich and its plethora of museums, picturesque renaissance, and medieval buildings amidst beautiful natural surroundings offering memorable moments to cherish.

DRIVEN BY DESIGN

The Art of curating good food with good vibes at Salties

Restaurants understand that providing great service is the key to happy customers and hospitality entrepreneurs, especially restaurant owners have started to channel their energy into key service elements by focussing on creating happy and vibrant venues that are also environmentally conscious with a soul instead on creating spaces that are similar to other venues around the city.

There is an increase in demand for sustainable alternatives and recycling with many dining establishments adopting this practice. Making a business eco-friendly is beneficial to the environment and using recycled materials in both restaurant furniture and design is trending as more patrons search for experiences where they can be themselves in a laid back, chilled environment with friends and family.

As a vibrant city that adopts the latest trends from around the world, Dubai is also embracing design spaces that add character to a venue. Hence, after birthing two Michelin stars in Milan and Monforte d'Alba, an Italian Architect, Designer and Tourism Entrepreneur has partnered with an English Radio Presenter, an Emirati Entrepreneur, a Fijian Writer and an Egyptian Restaurateur to bring Salties, a new concept restaurant in an eco-sustainable urban design.

The partners at Salties are advocates of style, comfort, craftsmanship, and practicality. As you enter Salties, a huge mural by Kenyan painter Castro depicts groups of lazing bathers which immediately brings you into a state of relaxation which is the foremost goal of this venue.

Immediately catching the visitor's eye is the bar counter constructed from the props used in the construction sites of the city's skyscrapersit stands out from the sea-facing windows of the new eatery. The aim

is clearly to cultivate a culture of balancing the new with the old and an awareness for supporting initiatives that are environment friendly.

The rustic deck board floors are expertly crafted by wood craftsmen and reflect the work of ancient wooden designs. The recycled chairs and tables emit a unique visual flair and personality to the design of Salties. The natural beauty of wood offers an abundance of charm and brings the furniture to life as reclaimed wood is a great option for adding character to a restaurant without compromising on the budget.

f&B

An unpretentious venue, Salties' laid back and chilled out DNA is embodied in the abandoned, lived in and reborn furniture surrounded by books and drinks allowing guests to relive lost time and find themselves. The goal is to enrich the experience of customers, making them feel good in a place that characterizes the environment with objects and furniture made with recycled materials and materials from renewable sources.

An amazing feature is the imaginary sand bridge that forms the outlines of the ancient floors and takes you directly to the beach beyond. All these little touches are about transporting guests to their happy memories and creating more memorable experiences that delight them within a warm and friendly space.

Salties is a design driven kitchen set in a space that perfectly unites the soul of Dubai through a combination of good food, good vibes and vibrant colors and materials.

Angular, geometric shapes that were popular in interior design and architecture are steadily being replaced by softer, wavier lines. REAWAKENING Timur D’Vatz

AAndakulova Gallery is delighted to present the artworks of Timur D'Vatz in our gallery space for his latest exhibition “Reawakening” from 08 December, 2022 to 07 February 2023 supported by Freedom Finance (DIFC) LTD.

Timur D'Vatz is an artist bestowed with unique talent and knowledge. He is inspired by ancient history, medieval tapestries and Celtic mythology. His paintings also reflect a fascination with alchemy and the ideals of Pre-Raphaelites.

D'Vatz has won several other awards, including the Guinness prize for First Time Exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in 1993, the A. T. Kearney Prize, and the B.P Portrait award at London's National Portrait Gallery 2002. The Grand Prix at the NordArt exhibition in 2021.

This is a series of works he painted in his new studio during an unusually warm summer in Normandy. The sunlit golds, amber reds and bright blues were revealed . The wind would stop short in tall dry grass and birds would go quiet. In the beginning all windows and

doors were kept open, then the shade and soothing darkness were much needed. Behind drawn curtains, in the dimmed shimmer, new ideas came to light. Midsummer's dreams. Reawakening.

How often do we wonder, how often do we daydream - reawakening into our inner self?

Thus 'Reawakening' is a return to our esoteric dreams and visions. It’s a never-ending journey into the midst of our imagination; to conquer that critical distance which exists between our inner space and outer reality. This process is not just switching off from everyday reality, it is a rather complex state of mind through which we can reach the depths of our subconscious, to the wonder world of our inner universe.

This collection of recent works is an attempt to take the spectator on the journey away and beyond to the archetypal realms of myths and legends. Through our active imagination we can revisit and restore our primordial personalities. The painting helps to achieve this mystical experience; to bring the spectator to the mysterious source of our existence.

ART & DESIGN

Hidden symbolism in painting's details helps to reawaken the longing for our Journey towards personal depths of our imagination. Myths become uncovered and the story opens up in tapestry-like vision. Animals represent our senses and desires. Figures, like angels, guide us in search of Knowledge and Source of Life. The Path leads through enchanted woods and lakes, full of magic and wonder. The colours of eternal gold and red support us all the way. We are going onto the Journey of Reawakening to our Eternal Youth.

Each figure displayed in Timur's paintings is symbolic. If the mission of Art is to transfer inner meaning, the light of the plot, comprehended through contemplation and if a painting is not just a design spot on wall, but rather a means of contact with another space, then the artist involves the viewer in the world he has created, with special energy and a certain aura.

Timur D'Vatz was born in 1986 in Moscow. In 1983, he attended Art College in Tashkent. It was a beautiful complex of old buildings with a few enclosed courtyards shaded by tall trees and refreshed by fountains.

There was the ambience of an inspiring little oasis in the middle of the big and busy city. It was wonderful to be painting in the atmospheric art studios. Lunch breaks would be just across the street, in a little café situated above the Anhor River.

Traditional food such as pilaf, lagman and nan bread, were accompanied by the music of a mountain river, as artists talked about their current art projects and dreams about the future.

Timur D'Vatz's journey continued when he moved to Moscow in 1990, where he started to exhibit. He was a regular visitor to the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, where he was drawn to works of antiquity. Timur also did extensive research on the human body in the museum library.

Five years later, he moved to London, where his education continued at the Royal Academy of Arts School. He was the recipient of the Sir James Walker and Jack Goldhill Scholarships and while studying, began exhibiting in several art galleries. He actively participated in the London art world.

He was commissioned by the church for an altarpiece painting in Notre Dame de France Catholic Church in London and also won a commission to paint two paintings in the Four Seasons hotel Moscow as well.

His artworks are collected by King of Bahrain and British Royal families. Timur D'Vatz's artworks are displayed in the magnificent Coutances Cathedral, which is a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral constructed from 1210 to 1274 in the town of Coutances, Normandy, France.

The artist explores pictorial space with his stylishly constructed misen-scenes. The art offers a modern day take on ancient legends and reappropriated symbols sourced from early Byzantine art and medieval tapestries.

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of Timur D'Vatz's works is the way in which his art is inextricably linked to the world of textiles: he excels at depicting the rich fabrics of Chinese silk printing and is influenced by intricate patterns of the Nabis School.

The School consisted of a group of young French artists active in Paris from 1888 until 1900, who played a large part in the transition from impressionism and academic art to abstract art, symbolism and the other early movements of modernism.

D'Vatz's shapes and patterns take on a life of their own, giving to the composition a lyrical harmony. The painter alleviates any possibility of visual heaviness or monotony by leaving elegant and refined forms to serve and to complicate the pictorial space.

The splashes of Baroque color and elongated body shapes create a surface pattern, which communicates the decorative and abstract qualities of his compositions.

The insistent flatness of the image, moreover, renders the elongated figures of his protagonists, the hounds and the falcons, inseparable from their environment: they seem not so much to inhabit the space, as to merge with it.

Timur D'Vatz spends time between his studios in Normandy and London.

THE ITALIAN MAISON HAS ENTRUSTED CREATIVE TALENT ROBERTO MILAN WITH THE ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE NEW SIGNATURES OF THE SUN HOME FRAGRANCE COLLECTION

Perfume, ineffable and subtle, meets matter, it takes form and reveals a new, unexpected plasticity. This is the power of art. The novel and fascinating vision of a sculptor, Roberto Milan. Acqua di Parma entrusted his wood sculpting talents to interpret the luminous fragrances, Signatures of the Sun, and to enrich the Home Fragrance collection with precious sensory emotions.

Quercia, Oud, Yuzu, Osmanthus. Protagonists of works where the art of perfumery, Signatures of the Sun, fuses with the artistic language and creativity of the Friulian sculptor. And what a happy encounter this is, a natural harmony. Acqua di Parma, with its fragrances Signatures of the Sun, was able to bring together and reveal the light within each ingredient through their century old art of perfumery methods. In a similar manner, every time Roberto Milan sculpts wood, he opens a dialogue with the raw and malleable material, giving it new life, revealing its soul and new meanings.

It is also through his long history with restorations that Roberto Milan fell in love with wood, unravelling its secrets in the process. His passionate research translated into a potent language. A formal synthesis that vibrates with expression. Fusing together modernism and tradition, Milan’s sculptures are abstract and conceptual, but also organic and vital forms. Gouges, chisels, pigments, compasses

and sketches. In his laboratory, Milan listens to the wood, to its grain, its knots, its aromas. It is the initial idea, the project that opens up to poetic variations. In an incessant creative process, the sculptor intervenes with coatings, gilding, polychromy taken from the Italian tradition of restoration, all grafted together with other materials such as bronze and glass. The result is always unique. Contemporary and ancestral at the same time.

The works of art produced for Acqua di Parma are unique pieces. The Maison asked the artist to interpret the luminosity of each fragrance and to give it plasticity, engulfing the physical product within the sculpture. Candles and diffusers become an integral part of the artwork, offering the sculptor additional creative stimuli. The common thread of these works of art, sculpted in linden wood, is also colour. Black and gold, iconic colours of the Signatures of the Sun collection, together with the unmistakable yellow brush strokes of Acqua di Parma.

“The unique pieces I have created for Acqua di Parma are the expression of the plasticity of the living material that is wood, and of the luminosity that resides in each of the collection ingredients” Roberto Milan explains.

The artist draws on material symbolism to transform the fragrances into tangible forms, and he gives light to a symphony of wood and bronze that expresses itself in all of its consistency and elegance.

| 54 | Trending Business Insights fRAGRANCES

The processing techniques used ensure that the wood – in the iconic Maison colours: black, gold and yellow – acquire new life, with the same mastery with which Acqua di Parma enlivens its ingredients.

Majestic roots hold up the oak tree, Quercia, and symbolise its strength, Oud is enveloped by resin in an enchanting embrace, Yuzu irradiates its energy from the centre of its magnificent bright sun and Osmanthus blossoms like a brilliant flower in all its olfactory power.

The final masterpiece, a homage to perfection within imperfection, is the engraved sun covered in gold plating, which concludes the artistic narration with brightness from the Italian sun, which revitalises everything it touches.

Five sculptures, five unique works of art. Protagonists of the visual campaign, where they are enhanced by a few essential elements. The pedestal, on which every sculpture is exhibited and celebrated, and in the background a series of arches, an allusion to a museum, an art gallery or a fashion house.

The collaboration between Roberto Milan and Acqua di Parma is one that occurs only in art, it reveals a new experience of perfumes bringing the impalpable world of olfactory sensations into the world of matter and plasticity.

“Art can unearth reality in ways never seen before. And the same is true with Acqua di Parma’s fragrances: it’s like breathing an ingredient for the first time.”

THE 2022 NAVITIMER BREITLING

As Breitling’s legendary timepiece turns 70, the brand unveils a redesigned collection that is all about bold color, enhanced styling—and incredible journeys. Breitling’s original pilot’s watch has been beloved by aviators and tastemakers in equal measure. Worn by an astronaut in space and the biggest stars on Earth, it is Breitling’s most iconic timepiece. Breitling hence introduces a new Navitimer that captures its most classic features, while enhancing them with modern refinements.

The Navitimer grew up alongside the burgeoning civil aviation industry. The watch comes in a range of sizes (46, 43, or 41 mm), two case materials (stainless steel or 18-karat red gold), and a choice of straps (semi-shiny alligator or sevenrow metal bracelet). Modern colors in shades of blue, green, and copper define its updated dial options. And if there is one feature sure to spark nostalgia, it’s the return of the AOPA wings to their original position at 12 o’clock.

Volkswagen Golf R Powerful Performance

Recently I got my hands on the new Golf R, Volkswagen’s top performance model and the elite member of the R-Brand for a few days.

I was particularly excited as Golf was my first car in the same beautiful blue but the latest edition I drove was so much better as it offered a driving experience like never before as a performance model.

The all-new Golf R comes with 235 kW / 320 HP making it capable of accelerating to 100km/h in a mere 4.8 seconds uniting speed, precision and power that makes it the pefect car, loaded with performance features that releases power exactly when and where you need it.

Equipped with an exclusive design and equipment, the all-new Golf R is the first Golf to be launched with a new all-wheel drive system: 4MOTION with R-Performance Torque Vectoring and selective wheel torque control on the rear axle.

This innovative drive significantly increases the agility of the new

Golf R, particularly when cornering. This means that drivers enjoy precise and neutral handling, optimum traction characteristics and exceptional agility, especially with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R Performance Torque Vectoring and high-performance brake system.

Some of the key exterior features of the new Golf R model that we liked were the matt chrome mirrors, the R logo floor projection when the car door is opened and closed and the alloy wheels.

ENGINEERED FOR YOUR LIFESTYLE All-New Nissan X-Terra mOTORING | 64 | Trending Business Insights

Awhile ago we went on a road trip to the East Coast in the all-new Nissan X-Terra 2021, stopping at different attractions along the way. The drive was comfortable for me as a veteran driver but equally fun for my 20-year-old who for the first time was allowed to drive a test car as part of the family outing experience.

The X-Terra 2021 solidifies the brand’s presence in the Middle East and represents a new addition to the lineup in the region. It bolsters the brand’s extensive SUV portfolio, while addressing customer demands in the rapidly growing D-SUV segment.

Driving across mountains, tunnels and normal highways, the tough yet sophisticated Nissan X-Terra clearly represents decades of Nissan's SUV expertise. It certainly was a reliable drive for both normal commuting and exciting outdoor adventures although during this journey we took it easy and stuck to having an easy-going outstation trip that merged visiting the Rafisa Dam for a kayaking session, Shees Park for hiking and a host of culinary adventures both on the road and in a five-star hotel setting.

Powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, the all-new Nissan X-Terra delivers a robust four-wheeldrive experience with features including four-wheel lock, brake limited slip differential and electronic locking rear differential.

Underlining this bold new design, breakthrough engineering and a suite of advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies, the all-new X-Terra offers impressive strength, driving capabilities and adventure-ready confidence for drivers to go ‘beyond boundaries’ and explore new places.

Safety was key during a road trip and I was comfortable having my daughter who has been driving only for two

years take on a new car on a new route. Available on the vehicle’s Platinum grade are Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Driver Alertness and Intelligent Emergency Braking.

Looking at the design, Nissan’s ‘unbreakable’ frame vehicle design philosophy in the all-new X-Terra offers the right combination of solidity with sleek and modern execution. The front resembles the iconic Nissan Patrol with the powerful new V-motion grille, whose thick frame contrasts with the refined horizontal chrome bars within.

The overall image of the Xterra is rugged and imposing, with added expressions of sophistication and technology. The C-shaped LED signature headlamps, similar to those on the Patrol, have evolved and have been interpreted in a new way on the all-new X-Terra to convey a high-tech impression.

Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has a full-width horizontal design, stretching from door to door to emphasize the spaciousness of the cabin. The shapes are bold and strong, yet finished in comfortable soft-touch materials. The 9-inch intuitive touch-screen display screen dominates the center, adding enhanced sophistication.

The road trip highlighted that the new X-Terra delivers best-in-class ride comfort thanks to Zero Gravity seats in the front and second row. Meanwhile, significant noise reduction efforts around the engine compartment and the use of acoustic glass on both the windshield and side windows help create a relaxed and quiet cabin setting for all occupants.

The all-new Nissan X-Terra is available in seven exterior colors, including bright brown and burgundy. The upscale exterior is matched with premium black and light grey interior colors that add to the richness of the vehicle.

DRIVE ASSIST ELEMENTS

The Escalade incorporates several advanced, vision-oriented features, including such as the Augmented Reality-enabled navigation, and Surround Vision, a standard feature that employs four exterior cameras to provide a 2-megapixel bird’s eye view of the scene around the vehicle. The Trailering Integration Package offers up to nine camera views while the Rear Camera Mirror streams a rear-facing camera view. Night Vision helps detect pedestrians and large animals. Other features include high-precision GPS, a state-of-the-art driver attention system, a network of cameras and radar sensors and automated lane change.

ENGINE & PERFORMANCE

Confidence-inspiring performance remains a hallmark of the 2021 Escalade, with a new 6.2L V-8 engine offered as standard. With variable valve timing, stop/start and kW) — with comparative efficiency. For the first time ever, the Escalade is also offered with a 3.0L turbo-diesel engine, designed to produce strong torque across the power band for confident performance and trailering capability. The 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of peak torque matches the 6.2L V-8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift control.

VERDICT

Confident performance with advanced chassis technologies, a more spacious interior and leading driver-assistance technologies in the Escalade offer an enhanced driving experience. In addition, the increased passenger space, expanded cargo carrying capability, the enhanced ride quality and handling performance add value to the drive experience.
