President’s Message Dear Fellow Flint Regional Chapter Members: I am very passionate about SCI, and SCI Flint and the principles for which these institutions stand. It is an honor to serve you. I will work hard to improve the way some people think about hunters. We have to let them know the truth which can be done thru social media, “SHOW THE PRIDE”. SCI has been instrumental in wildlife conservation, it is the hunter’s money that protects the animals. The more members we can get the louder our voice! It’s all about numbers in the political arena. All this is what the board and members can accomplish by attending the fundraiser. We all know we are heading into fundraiser season. The largest SCI Convention to be held in Reno is considered one of the largest exhibits of wildlife art in the world including paintings, sculptures and ceramics. The taxidermy work is world class. There is no question that the SCI Annual Hunters Convention is the Greatest Hunting Show on Earth. The 2019 show was held on January 9th thru the 12th in Reno, Nevada. This is something I highly recommend attending at some point. You won’t be disappointed! Representing the Flint Chapter this year was myself, George Peterman, Carl Griffin, John Kupiec, Neal Porter, Matt Blunzer and Mike Dickerson. We will be working this entire trip, talking to outfitters and getting hunts donated for our fundraiser and attending various meetings learning how to best serve our club. Please join us at the Flint SCI Chapter Fundraiser Dinner. I promise you some of the best hunts you will find at any chapter fundraiser. The board, along with Mike Dickerson’s leadership as Hunt Donor Coordinator, work diligently to procure some of the best hunts in the world to be auctioned off at our show. The Flint chapter takes pride in only bringing quality items to our fundraiser. This year we will be raffling off a gun safe with guns included, a Polaris side x side, other various raffle items and the silent auction. We are presently busy making all the arrangements for our show. Outfitters Expo night is Friday March 8, 2019 at the Davison Country Club and the Fundraiser/Auction will be held Saturday March 9, 2019 at Dort Federal Event Center in Flint (formally known as Perani’s). Please visit our website at www.sciflint.com for a list of auction items in preparation for our upcoming Outfitter Expo and 37th Annual Fundraiser. Hope to see you there! If anyone would like to provide an email address that hasn’t already done so, I occasionally send out reminders and important information in a group message. Just send me an email to drpeters60@gmail.com from the email address you would like me to include in the future. Show the Pride! Dennis Ray Peters Flint Regional Chapter President

Blue Bag Travels to Guatemala
T
his past October 16 people boarded an airplane and headed to Camotan, Guatemala a town about 120 miles or a four hour drive east of the capital Guatemala City. We were there to support a group called Servant Ministries which was started by Nancy Sheldon in 1989 and is based in Michigan but works in Guatemala. Servant Ministries works to support the local people who are primarily subsistence farmers with minimal resources. Their primary agricultural crop is corn used mainly for food along with fruits and vegetables grown in each family’s garden. Since it’s beginning Servant Ministries has started new churches, medical, dental and optical clinics. Various groups travel from the U.S. periodically to Camotan to provide medical and dental care and deliver supplies to the clinics in addition to providing support for the overall ministry. This trip had three primary goals. 1. to help put a new 20ft X 20ft addition on one of the approximately 20 mountain churches Nancy has planted 2. to help provide and distribute school supply
packs for the mountain children and 3. to provide maternity packs for new mothers and babies. The addition to the church provides more seating and was built from concrete block with stucco on the interior walls topped by a tin roof. Through the help of many hands, the entire building project was completed in the seven days we were there. 2400 school packs consisting of supplies ranging from pencils and sharpeners to pens, scissors, markers and crayons and other supplies based on the ages of the children, were assembled, packed in zip-lock bags and distributed. Other groups will provide additional packs for a total of 7000 that will go to schools across the mountains. The maternity packs were composed of everyday items that we take for granted but are largely unavailable to them. Lotion and baby wash, diapers, blankets and stuffed toys were among the items.
A number of the participants on the trip adopted children for continuing support after our departure. Some of the help is to provide improved diets. Many of the children suffer from various forms of malnutrition due to many foods either not being available or beyond the means of their family. As mentioned earlier their primary food is corn which is baked into tortillas three times a day and accompanied by some vegetables from the family garden. Our support will help them obtain additional food stuffs such as potatoes, carrots and cabbage and beans. There are so many people like those we visited that need so much and have so little. Too often they are invisible to us due to distance and a lack of awareness of their plight. The continuing work of Servant Ministries is making a significant impact on this area and it’s people. We thank SCI Flint for your support through the Blue Bag program to bring much needed help to them. Linda Hamilton, RN www.scif lint.com | Winter 2019 7
Veterans Pheasant Hunt 2018 On December 15 veterans from across mid-Michigan gathered at Muzzy Pheasant Farm near Corunna to participate in a veteran’s hunt. The hunt was sponsored by SCI Flint and Muzzy Pheasant Farm and generously supported by Williams Gun Sight Co. and Michigan Outdoor Mobility. On the overcast cool day veterans participated in a tower hunt in the morning followed by lunch and a walk-up hunt in the afternoon. With a lot of good shooting, and a few misses too, there were plenty of pheasants for everyone to take home for dinner. In
addition to the hunting and good food there were plenty of prizes to be won, stories to be told and camaraderie to be shared. SCI Flint joins with Muzzy Pheasant Farm, Williams Gun Sight Co and Michigan Mobility in thanking these veterans and all veterans for their service.
Drew Frye My name is Stanley Frye. I’m a member of the Flint chapter. My son Drew Frye is 8 years old. He had never used a shotgun until the day before this hunt. I wanted to get him introduced to the outdoors so I set this pheasant hunt up in Alabama with some high school friend since I’m from Alabama. During the hunt Drew fell in love with
hunting and is hooked. I could not believe he actually harvested 2 pheasants and at least 1 chukar by himself with his little 410 single shot he got for Christmas. I also took him on his first deer hunt the same day. Unfortunately he missed a little buck. Two days later, not only did he get his first deer but his second also. He was shooting at the big doe and the bullet went through her and hit the other one also. He is so excited. Actually in Alabama you can legally shoot a buck and 2 does a day. 8 Winter 2019 | www.scif lint.com
Ice Floats In July What do you during the dog days of Summer? Well head to the High Arctic and hunt Walrus; of course? Last year at the SCI Convention in Vegas I was approached by good long-time friend Shane Black of Canada North Outfitters. He said he was putting together a group of hunters to go to the High Arctic for Walrus the next summer and would I be interested? Well it took me all of about two seconds to say yes and the plans were set in motion. As things developed, we would leave mid-July and head to a place called Hall Beach in the Nunavut Territories Canada some 200 odd miles south of the North Pole. The trip would consist of flight from Detroit through Ottawa Canada and then onto Hall Beach via a couple of short stops at Inuit villages along the way. Another adventure for sure! Arriving at Hall Beach weather was a Brisk 45 degrees Fahrenheit and to my surprise the ocean water was pretty open, with several icebergs floating by. We met our guide and his crew and made plans for the following days hunt. This would involve using several boats to travel across the Arctic Ocean some seventy odd miles to find the Ice Edge where the Walrus would be. There were six people in our hunting party, and we were all sized and issued ocean survival suits for safety in the 30-degree Ocean water in case of an emergency. The next day the wind was not in our favor and the fog had rolled in, so we spent the day with our guides family and visited sites around the town and had a picnic lunch on the beach while we tried to cast for Arctic Char. The guide did have some success by setting a gill net off the beach and did net a nice Char; which we cooked for lunch. The area around town was barren and contained lots of small rocks. Miles and miles of rocks. There was an old Radar base there from the cold war era that was a DEW Site (Distant Early Warning) that would detect any foreign aircraft or missiles that could be launched from Russia across North America to the US and Europe. The Radar Antennas were huge and made a great land mark for the town from the Ocean; very interesting. Well we finally got out in the boats on the third day and went about 70 miles across the Ocean in 24-foot boats and found the flow
edge of the ice. When we arrived at the edge the ice looked like a solid mass of ice as far as you could see. Inoki our guide said the ice was no good here for the Walrus and we preceded to head South down the flow edge for two more hours until we found an area of ice that was broken up in to large floating pods of ice. This is where the Walrus would be. Walrus like to lay on the pods, so they can be aware of Polar Bear swimming not walking up on them. We did see two large Polar Bears that day. One Bear was walking and hunting on the flat ice and the other Bear was swimming in the pod ice. I never in my life would have thought I would be lucky enough to see a Polar Bear swimming in the Arctic Ocean right next to the boat I was in! We eventually found several Walrus laying on the ice and the hunt was on. We evaluated several Walrus before we harvested our animals. You can actually smell them before you see them as they have quite an odor. Animals were evaluated based upon Tusk size by length and circumference. After the animals were shot the Natives quickly started the butchering process and between the 16 of them, they made quick work of butchering and tying what looked like eight pieces of the animal up into skin type meat sacks. These sacks would later be buried in the ground for six months and then eaten. This meat preparation has been done for generations this way; as a means to ferment the meat. We did not have the pleasure of tasting any of this which did not bother any of us. We did have several parts of the Walrus cooked by boiling in a pot via a Coleman stove on the ice at the scene of each animal harvest. This was a part of the celebration of the harvest. The meat, no matter what part it was all tasted like Clams. The Walrus diet is completely Crustacean based as we were told. Every single part of the Walrus was utilized and only the spinal cord remained at the harvest site; nothing went to waste. The trip was a great experience for the cultural experience and to be on The Land with Inuit’s. To experience the ways of existence and the absolute beauty of the harsh environment is an experience I will never forget. May all your hunting experiences open your mind to a giving World. 2018 SCI Flint Veteran Hunt
My name is Christopher Werth and I had the pleasure of going on a veteran’s turkey hunt hosted by Northeast Missouri Outfitters and SCI Flint. My career as a marine was a good one, I did 4 years as a radio operator and a secondary MOS as a marksman coach. I was fortunate to meet a lot of awesome people while I served and will never forget them. It’s truly a brotherhood that will change you forever. Describing my hunt in one word would simply be, AMAZING. I had a phenomenal trip. Good food, great people, and lots a fun. This was the first time I had attempted turkey hunting, so it was all new to me. But with a little coaching from Ryan Lewis and his phenomenal team at Northwest Missouri Outfitters, I was good to go. They walked me through everything and made sure I was prepared when that monster bird came in. The morning of the hunt, Aaron Quillan, aka “the awesome guide”, and myself went out early in the morning to the blind we set up the prior day. We sat waiting as the sun came up and began to hear more and more big toms gobbling over the ridges. It was a pretty awesome few
moments and something you must experience if you’ve never hunted turkey before. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a group of hens and a couple jakes came in from the right. I decided I was going to take one of the jakes and got myself ready for the shot. Looking down shotgun scope, picking out the best one in the group, I took a deep breath and using my marksmanship skills I acquired from the Marine corps, shot my first turkey! It was awesome! After the hunt, we went back to the lodge for food, drinks and lots of laughs. The group of guys there that week were great. Very professional at their task but so personable at the same time. I couldn’t have asked for a better group and I can’t wait to go back to NEMO and hunt with my new friends. So many thanks to send out. First, Ryan Lewis, Dave Kirby, and the entire Northeast Missouri team for providing this amazing hunt and lodging. Thank you so much. Even the food was amazing! Thanks to Aaron Quillan for driving over from Monarch Rivers to help guide me on my hunt. Thank you, Mike Dickerson, for driving me down to the outfit and back. We had a lot of fun on the trip and I would do it again with you in a heartbeat. Thanks to Zach Goodheart for reaching out to me and setting this trip up, it was much needed time away and an amazing experience for my first turkey hunt. Finally, thank you to the Flint Safari Club. Without the chapter and its members, I know that none of this would have been possible. Once again thank you all for giving me the opportunity to share good times and good laughs, it really meant a lot to me and will be an experience I’ll never forget. Sincerely, Sgt. Christopher Werth Veteran, USMC

Outfitter Buck Country Waterfowl Hunting
Fast paced waterfowl action and top notch accommodations. The lodge is outstanding. It feels like a luxury hotel but has a very laid back pace. The owners and staff make you feel at home and are there to help if you need anything. Meals are great and another nice touch is the “snack rack”. Each morning you can grab a lunch cooler and load it up for the days hunt from a good selection of items. Keep an eye out for the homemade items in the rack, always a good choice. Our hunting was done from a portable field blind which allowed us to sit on chairs and stand to shoot. The blind was brushed and grassed out each day and the birds didn’t ever seem to shy away from it. Birds were plentiful and decoyed well resulting in some top notch shooting. When the hunt was done we were able to relax in the hot tub and have a few drinks before dinner. After a great dinner we relaxed and swapped stories until it was time to go to bed so we could do it all over the next day.
Northeast Missouri Outfitters For my first ever hunt with an out of state Outfitter, I chose Northeast Missouri Outfitters. These guys always give it 100% and strive for an amazing experience. I killed my best bucks to date with NEMO. A 156-7/8 10 point in 2016, a 151-4/8 9 point in 2017, and in 2018 I passed more bucks than I ever thought possible. Looking forward to my next trip back to NEMO where it’s always amazing. Nate Pease - Ovid, MI.
Lonetree Outfitters Hunting mountain lions has been a dream of mine for a long time. After being on a couple tough hunts I hooked up with Lonetree Outfitters in Utah. These guys are amazing and the areas they hunt are full of great cats. I saw more tracks on the first morning than I ever have. I was fortunate to take a giant cat on the evening of my first day. Brady Loveless and Lonetree Outfitters will get you on good Lions. Ryan Lewis Northeast Missouri Outfitters 12 Winter 2019 | www.scif lint.com
Spotlight Monarch Rivers “I hunt every year at Monarch Rivers in Illinois with my brother-in-law and father-in-law. Over the years I have seen 3 200” bucks and several more over the 170” mark with many more opportunities on mature whitetails. I have killed multiple trophies including one really old deer. The team at Monarch Rivers works very hard to put us in position to kill big deer. We truly have a great time hunting at Monarch Rivers and I feel it is the best experience to hunt the biggest deer.” -Jason Desilites

Michigan Bobcat Hunting Adventure By Lewis Duncan
For well over a year fellow board member John Rubel and I have been talking about Bobcat hunting. He and his Dad have been hunting with dog’s for a long time. They just recently returned from Wyoming on a successful Mountain Lion Hunt. We decided this year was going to be the year we plan a hunt together. The season opens January 1st. Northern Michigan this year has been warmer than normal and has not had a lot of snow. We spoke just after Christmas and the forecast looked like Onaway, Michigan was going to have a dusting of snow on the opener which is not enough to look for tracks. Well you know what they say about Michigan’s weather, it can change every five minutes. John called and said they are expecting 8-10 inches on New Year’s Eve. Perfect! We left at 2:30 am New Year’s Eve. Ah, who needs sleep. It stopped snowing about 2:00 am. We arrived about an hour before daylight. We started driving around the back roads and two tracks looking for tracks from the illusive Bobcat. The snow was fresh and not much sign. When looking for tracks you’re looking for rounded tracks with no claw marks. Coyote tracks will be pointy with claws in it. Bobcat are often found in the same area you will find their primary food source Snowshoe Hare. Like many other animals they do not move much during a storm. We looked for tracks for most of the day. John received a call from long time friend and hounds man Jim Shephard. Jim being a guide and hounds man his whole life said because of the storm you’re not going to find any tracks because nothing moved last night. Come on over and we can game plan for tomorrow, it should be great. We jumped at the chance. Jim growing up in Onaway knows all the back roads and honey holes. The next morning we loaded up Jim’s dogs Paige and Timber to go with John’s dogs Rambo and Styx and headed out. We looked for tracks from about an hour before daylight to about 11:30, then there it was a track of a smaller cat walking up a blow down next to the road. The cat came out to the road then back into the woods and right back out. As we were looking for where he went back into the woods we found 14 Winter 2019 | www.scif lint.com
another track of a much bigger cat. First, Jim put his much more experienced dog Paige on it first, to get it going, then he released Timber. After they both started working it John put his dogs Rambo and Styx. The chase was on. Like most animals when they feel pressure they will go to the thickest nastiest terrain they can find. Similar to rabbits, bobcat’s will circle to try to lose the dogs, which is exactly what this bobcat did. We started to make a move on them. As we started to get closer the cat broke the circle and headed deeper into the swamp. The cat would get tricky trying to back track, jump around trying to lose the dogs but Jim’s well trained Paige and Timber were not having it. At this point we are well over a mile in and the dogs are straight ahead another mile. We tried to close the gap maneuvering though thick swamp land. Jim then noticed on the GPS that the dogs started to head back towards us. We tried as quietly as possible to move into place as it appeared that they were headed right to us. The GPS said they were about 400 yards away from us. A short time after we heard some ice breaking the dogs were breaking through and there the cat was gliding over the ice with ease, down the exact same trail that Jim said he would. The Bobcat came right in to about 40 yards and I took the shot. Great hunt with great guys and most of all great dogs. Jim Shephard will be at our fundraiser March 9th donating a Bobcat hunt and booking hunts. Stop by and see him you won’t regret it. Jim Shephard 989-306-1148
From the Heart
Botes Van Der Merwe Taken from us December 11, 2018
M
ost things in life have a value. From diamonds to ice cubes. When you have a true friend, you can’t put a price on that. Family and friends are a gift from God. They can make you feel like a million bucks; a true friend is the treasure you can’t measure. The memories are priceless. The pictures, time and stories shared are the treasures. Time is something we don’t know how much we have so treasure every day you get. A truly professional guide not only in the bush but in life with a strong moral fiber. That would be hard to duplicate with such strong passion toward his friends and clients. The time we spent together will always be cherished. I will deeply miss you my true friend. Here is a short description of his career choice. A job he loved passionately and exceeded all expectations at. Professional hunter is a title bestowed on the men who guide and organize hunting expeditions all over the world. Its tradition can be traced back over a century to R.J. Cunningham, Teddy Roosevelt’s professional hunter of the
famous safari of 1909-1910. The tradition continues today by countless men who guide visiting sportsmen, especially in Africa. This is not a title easily earned. In most African countries today, professional hunters are licensed by the game department and undergo extensive training and testing. The PH assumes complete responsibility for the safari, which includes the safety of clients and crew. He also must be able to organize a camp, fix a broken vehicle, judge the horns of an animal from a quarter mile away, be familiar with all manner of firearms and stop a charging buffalo at close quarters if necessary. Botes was a great friend to the Flint Chapter of the Safari Club International. We always looked forward to seeing him at the Annual Fundraiser, he would always donate a fantastic hunt! Many of us have hunted with him and know what a top-notch PH he was. He made a difference in this world he left too soon. “Rest in Peace our Dear Friend”

CI CONVENTION
portsmen Market
ry 9 - 12, 2019
The Safari Club International Convention, held in Reno, Nevada, was definitely one to remember. For 47 years, SCI has been FIRST FOR HUNTERS and this year’s was well attended by Flint chapter members and board members.
President Paul Babaz opened the event with a ceremonial ribbon cutting while Angela Chapman’s Exhibitor Welcoming Brigade was on the convention floor meeting and greeting all of the donors and exhibitors. SCI Flint was well represented in the brigade- Scott Chapman, Dennis Peters, Sheri Harvey, Joy Peterman, George Peterman, Carl and Jane Griffin, and Neal Porter all volunteered for service.
Other volunteers from SCI Flint included Bruce Eavenson and Matt Bluntzer, both working on the exhibitor care floor team and Guides and Outfitters team. Scott Chapman served as Chair of the convention committee, along with many other roles. Matt
Bluntzer volunteered for duty at the Sables Luncheon event. Hunt Donor Chair for SCI Flint, Mike Dickerson, attended the convention along with his team of SCI Flint board members. They were able to add some great hunting trips to our upcoming fundraiser. Next year’s convention will be held once again at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center from January 15 to January 18, 2020. The host hotel will be the Peppermill. If you’ve never been, start making plans now to attend- every hunter needs to experience the greatest hunting celebration on earth at least once! In 2022, the convention will return to Las Vegas.
The best outfitters in the world exhibit at the convention and the hunter has the opportunity to plan and discuss his next adventure in great detail before booking the hunt. Unique home furnishings, clothing, optics, firearms, custom wildlife jewelry, artwork- it’s all at the convention and the quality is all world class. www.scif lint.com | Winter 2019 19
Quarterly Legislative-Policy Update First Quarter 2019
This quarter we will look at how one small group of sportsmen have successfully worked with our state government and the Michigan DNR to put in place a change that could ultimately greatly increase hunting opportunities for small game hunters in our state. Our story starts with one man named Ken Dalton a retired GM auto worker living in Attica Michigan. A life long hunter, Ken saw the number of ring neck pheasants steadily decline from the 1970’s until now. With that he saw that the number of people hunting pheasants on public lands drop as well. Our pheasant hunters were going to game farms or out to South Dakota when they could not find enough birds here, even on private land. Many groups including Pheasants Forever had programs to create or improve pheasant habitat and though these efforts were somewhat successful the downward trend for pheasant hunters seemed to continue. To counteract this Ken decided to do something. He could not stand the thought of young people today not being able to chase rooster pheasants as he did when he was a boy. This led to his forming the Michigan Pheasant Hunting Initiative (MPHI) with a goal of establishing a state sponsored pheasant release program so that experienced or beginning small game hunters of average means could successfully bag pheasants on state land in Southern Michigan. Ken reasoned that if 20 other states from Washington to Rhode Island, including California, released pheasants for their hunters Michigan could as well. Making this a reality became 20 W inter 2019 | www.scif lint.com
Ken Dalton’s mission in life. He started a grass roots movement of hunters who agreed with him and went on to get the endorsement of many local sportsmen’s organizations and the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC). Ken faced many obstacles and was told countless times that he would never succeed but with the help of individual members of organizations like Pheasants Forever, The Michigan Hunting Dog Federation, and Safari Club International he forged on. He worked hard to convince state representatives and senators that his ideas made sense. Working with MUCC, wording was drafted that found it’s way to the state legislature where, as part of an appropriations bill, it passed both houses. When Governor Snyder signed SB 601 it contained $260,000 for a two year pilot to release pheasants on public land for Michigan hunters to pursue. These special hunts could start as early as 2019 but there is more to the story. When the pilot program proves to be successful it can grow to include more pheasants planted on additional state game areas. This will require additional funding and Ken is already working on getting it. In 2017 the Unites States Fish and Wildlife Service authorized using Pittman-Robertson money for the stocking of pen raised game birds as long as doing that enhances hunter recruitment, retention or reactivation (3 R’s). It is classed as Basic and Enhanced Hunter Education funding and Michigan currently receives around $4 Million of these dollars from the federal government yearly. Ken is
also working with the state legislature on a plan for a Michigan Pheasant Stamp. His vision is a program in Michigan that is like Pennsylvania’s where 50,000 pheasant hunters buy a $26 stamp for the right to hunt 220,000 pheasants that are released on 90 state game areas every year! The benefits will be tremendous and include more new hunters, older hunters going out again, increased business for suppliers and more money staying in Michigan. The list can go on and on. The lesson we should take away from the MPHI success story is that we, as hunters, can control our own destiny when we work together toward a goal and never give up. Our state legislature, the DNR and the NRC are not isolated unapproachable bodies that we have no control over. Ken Dalton proved that. Be it wolf hunts, dove hunts or sand hill crane hunts, longer seasons, shorter seasons, or antler point restrictions, if an idea is sound and has enough support it can become a reality. (The complete wording of the spending bill as it relates to the pheasant release program follows) 23 Pheasant hunting initiative .......................... 260,000 1 From the funds 1 appropriated in part 1 for the 2 pheasant hunting initiative, not less than $180,000.00 shall be 3 distributed by the department of natural resources to a Michigan 4 based, nonprofit organization for the purchase of pheasants to 5 release on state game areas for hunting. 6 (2) The purpose of the initiative is to release pheasants on 7 state game areas to improve hunting opportunity and to recruit,
8 retain, and reactivate small game hunters within this state. The 9 department of natural resources shall evaluate the program for 10 possible renewal in future years, including, but not limited to, 11 the following metrics: participation in small game hunting on 12 participating state game areas, hunter satisfaction with the 13 program, expansion of the number of hunters pursuing small game, 14 and limited hunter conflicts resulting from the release of 15 pheasants. 16 (3) The project will be accomplished by utilizing state 17 employees or contracts with service providers, or both. 18 (4) Any unexpended money shall not lapse to the general fund 19 and shall be carried forward as a work project appropriation under the management and budget act, 1984 PA 431, MCL 18.1101 to 18.1594. Thank you for joining us this weekend during our chapter’s largest fundraising event. This event is planned each year not only to raise money but also engage and reconnect the fellow sportsmen. That being said, if you are not a member of the Flint SCI Chapter please find me during the show, because we need to get you signed up! Why? If you consider yourself a hunter, this is the easiest and best way to promote the sport and preserve it for future generations. Since 2000, SCI Foundation has provided $60 Million to promote science-based conservation through wildlife research, education, and humanitarian programs that prove the importance of the hunting community worldwide. Since 1979, SCI has spent nearly $400 Million on hunter advocacy and wildlife conservation As you can see, each and every member contributes to these supporting efforts to help make a global impact. I strongly encourage memberships not because it is my job but because it is my passion. We must protect the habitats and protect our freedom to hunt.
