fter 56 years of dedicated service to the community of Greer, Alan Bennett Memorial Hospital closed its doors for good on August 24, 2008. Replacing the area’s first community hospital is Greenville Hospital System’s new $58 million, 82-bed Greer Memorial Hospital, located at 830 South Buncombe Road on the new Greer Medical Campus.
“Greer Memorial will create a unique healing environment for our patients by bringing together stateof-the-art technology with the outstanding care people have come to expect at Allen Bennett,” says John Mansure, president of Greer Medical Campus. “The opportunity to serve new and current patients in such a wonderful facility and community is a privilege.” The beautiful new Arts and Craft style hospital, designed to mimic the existing architecture of Greer’s historic downtown and surrounding neighborhood areas, is nestled

on a 130-acre, $100 million-plus complex which makes up the new and much larger Greer Medical Campus. Conveniently located within the Greer Medical Campus are two office buildings that include physician practices and businesses committed to serving the medical needs of the Greer community. One of these is The Children’s Clinic, which opened its third location on June 24th of this year. “The Children’s Clinic has been providing personal, high quality care to children in the Upstate for over 50 years,” says Dr. Philip Manley, pediatrician at The Children’s Clinic. “Many have come to our downtown location from Greer and the surrounding area, so we are excited to offer them the same high quality of service in a new, convenient location. Our location at the new Greer Medical Campus brings the added benefit of additional, easily accessible services including radiology, emergency, laboratory, orthopedic, and inpatient pediatric care.” “We have the ability to do some simple labs on site and the convenience of the hospital next door for more complex labs,” says Dr. Michelle Viglianco-VanPelt, Pediatrician at The Children’s Clinic. “Since we are affiliated with the Children’s Hospital of Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center, we also have contact and relationships

• Separated well and sick waiting rooms • Sports medicine • Annual well checks “It’s an exciting time for The Children’s Clinic to join the healthcare community at Greer!” says Dr. Manley. “We hope that our recent move to this community will allow us to enhance pediatric healthcare in the area, both through direct patient care and increased educational outreach. We love children and keeping them healthy is our primary goal.” “Greer is growing so fast, and I am excited to be part of that growth,” says Dr. Viglianco-VanPelt. “I have spent the past two years serving patients of Greer and Simpsonville and look forward to continuing those rewarding relationships. Because we are affiliated with the Children’s Hospital of Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center, I know my patients are getting the best care in the area.” This year, we not only say good-bye to Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital, we say hello to the future of health care with the new Greer Medical Campus. “This is more than just a hospital,” says Mr. Mansure. “It’s a resource to keep patients and their families healthy. We’re there for you when you need us, but we also want the community to take advantage of our extensive health education, walking trails, and the spirit of partnership we bring to the community.
