INTRODUCTION According to oxford dictionary.com self-sufficiency is by definition “the state of not requiring any aid, support or interaction for survival�. In other words, being self-sufficient is a type of personal and/ or collective autonomy and independence, it is the fact of not needing outside help in satisfying one’s basic needs.
However as the world population grew, communication barriers slowly began to disappear, tribes began to trade among themselves in order to consume to have a wider variety of offerings. Hence, people began to specialize, creating a segmented form of supply chain.
On a national scale, for a country or region being self-sufficient resolves around not trading with the outside world hence establishing an autarky whereas the peninsula would be economically independent and self-sustainable, whereas nothing is consumed outside of what is produced locally, basic needs are satisfied through local products and services, while imports and exports take up a very small percentage of the economic model.
With modern globalization, going back to the traditional ways of sustainability became a challenge, however it is not an impossible task.
One of the multiple basic practices that enables self-sufficiency is centered around the field of food, and sustainable agriculture.
For that, we shall discuss the different forms of diet available for residents of that, and selecting the most ideal concept for our model, we will also provide a full nutrient analysis of our food offerings, while also prioritizing certain types nourishments.
Historically, the concept of food sustainability is not a stranger to human beings, at one time the whole world was in fact self-sufficient, people were segregated into small groups, families or tribes who relied on their own food making and gathering to survive.
Our neighborhood is based around bringing life back to that concept. We designed a prototype and created a self-sufficient society in terms of food offering and agriculture.
Finally we will provide an urban plan that will both give way to an innovative city remodeling, and a threshold for agricultural sustainability.
