SUMMER 2023

PRESIDENTIAL INVESTITURE

Jack M. Bourla, D.C., A.C.P.

On Wednesday, the third of May two thousand and twenty-three at six o’clock in the evening, Sherman College of Chiropractic celebrated the Investiture of the 6th president of the college, Jack M. Bourla, D.C., A.C.P. The ceremony was held on Sherman’s campus in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and in attendance were four past Sherman College presidents, chiropractic and community dignitaries, college faculty and staff, friends, and family.

Jack Bourla, D.C., A.C.P., began his tenure as the sixth president of Sherman College of Chiropractic in December 2022, and is responsible for guiding the direction of the institution while continuing to shape and influence the chiropractic profession. He is committed to ensuring the mission of Sherman College is alive for many generations to come.

Under Dr. Bourla’s leadership, the college utilizes the most modern strategies in education to assure that students are well-equipped to serve their communities upon graduation. Sherman strives to maintain the purity of chiropractic by emphasizing the importance of science, art, and philosophy in the classroom at every opportunity.

Dr. Bourla ran a successful private practice, Providence Chiropractic Center, in Redwood City, California for 25 years. When realizing the importance of perpetuating the vertebral subluxation model, he felt compelled to bring his experience to Sherman College. One of his greatest joys is watching young minds develop into successful, confident, and competent doctors of chiropractic.

Dr. Bourla is a first-generation United States citizen who is bilingual in English and French. He has served the chiropractic profession in educational and organizational leadership roles such as dean of clinics at Life West Chiropractic College and as former president and chairman of the board of the International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations (IFCO), where he is a current member of the board of directors.

Dr. Bourla was awarded the California Chiropractic Association President’s Award for 2011-2012 and Doctor of the Year for 2012-2013, and was awarded the Service to the Profession by Sherman College in 2022.

Dr. Bourla and his wife Erin have two children, Jacqueline and Evan. Jacqueline currently resides in California, while Dr. Bourla, Erin, and Evan reside in the on-campus residence known as the Brown house.

Being named the sixth president of Sherman College of Chiropractic is one of the greatest honors of my life. Having graduated from chiropractic college as a 42 year-old, I have had to make up a lot of ground just to keep up.

The universe called me into chiropractic. I didn’t come from a chiropractic family and had it not been for an unfortunate incident happening to my wife many years ago, I may never have become a chiropractor. But when the universe calls, one must remain open to the possibilities of that calling. I was open and the blessings have been varied and many.

Had anyone suggested to me that I would one day become president of a chiropractic college, I would have laughed and perhaps even insulted them for making such a suggestion. But an opportunity arose, the chiropractic stars aligned in my favor, and I began my term at Sherman on December 1, 2022.

My first several months at Sherman have been terrific. I’ve witnessed and have been a part of some very exciting projects. I have formed relationships with the outstanding leadership team, faculty, staff, and students. I have been part of planning meetings which aim to improve every aspect of the Sherman College experience. I have been afforded the opportunity to dream of things that could be and plan for them to come to fruition.

The previous leadership team did wonderful work in the face of global adversity. Their vision and dedication to the school and the profession allowed them to move forward with plans to grow and strengthen the college. I inherited an institution which is poised to make global impact.

I have grown to appreciate the faculty who have dedicated their lives to educating and preparing our students to become doctors of chiropractic who are focused on the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation, the staff who work tirelessly to support the institution in achieving its mission, and the students whose inquisitive minds ask great questions and seek to better understand the profession and its potential impact on the trajectory of humankind.

The Palmers were quite serious in their admonishment of the profession: to keep chiropractic pure, unmixed, unadulterated, and unsullied. They coined chiropractic as a “Sacred Trust” and asked us to guard it well.

And so it is and so it will remain with Sherman: guard the Sacred Trust without wavering because we understand that chiropractic is a vehicle to improve the quality of everyone’s life, within the limitations of matter.

We know we can’t do this alone. It is for this reason that we have begun networking with local colleges and universities to educate and empower them on understanding what chiropractic truly is and is not, so that they may offer their students upon graduation entry into a profession that looks to better humanity.

The Revitalization of the ADIO Patio

On the northeast side of our main classroom building, Scallon Hall, there is a large outdoor space that is extremely underutilized, the ADIO Patio. In the early years of the college, this was a space of leisure, connection, and recharging for Sherman College students. Through the years the college has grown and changed, with little attention paid to this area of campus. Sherman College is looking to develop this outdoor space into a place for our students to spend time outside reconnecting and mentally recharging between classes throughout the day.

Health Center Interns Hit it Out of the Park!

One of the hallmarks of the student experience at Sherman College is our close-knit community. Faculty and staff pour into our students as they support them throughout the program, and our clinic faculty have some of the tightest bonds with students because of their ability to work one-on-one in our clinic. Another way these bonds form is by interns coming together with their case doctor to serve our local community. This past April, our 12th quarter student cohort, under the leadership of Dr. Sarah Hock, ’08, hit it out of the park when they chose to volunteer with the Carolina Miracle League, a local non-profit that Sherman College has sponsored since 2008.

For 15 years, the Carolina Miracle League has lived by its motto that “every child deserves a chance to play baseball.” The organization says that the children who participate in the league would never be able to participate in organized sports due to their various challenges. Since the inception of the Carolina Miracle League, more than 800 participants have played baseball with the help of nearly 500 buddies that give their time and support to players during the games.

Dr. Hock’s D-Hall interns stepped up to the plate (pun, intended) and volunteered as buddies for a Carolina Miracle League game and experienced first-hand this one-of-a-kind sporting event and all the excitement it brings to the players and their families. Olivia Jeter, DC2B, stated “Miracle League makes such an impact on the children we are there to serve. It was amazing seeing the smiles and happiness on their faces while they were getting to play a sport that they love.”

As Sherman College looks to become more involved in the Spartanburg community, we appreciate our students, faculty and staff that volunteer their time to be part of this effort. We look forward to our next home run with the Carolina Miracle League!

Chris Roberson, Director of Financial Aid, manages two teams from Sherman College in the Community Coed Softball League. Roberson states, “The goal of the coed softball team is to get students/faculty/staff from all different quarters to come together and have fun. Also…to WIN!” During the spring season the two teams (Team 17+1 and Team TBD) combined to score 311 runs during each team’s 8 game regular season.

2023 Spring SEASON Team TBD

finished the regular season with the 3rd seed

2023 Spring SEASON Team 17+1 finished 4TH

Roberson also says, “It’s great to see students outside of the classroom in a fun, relaxed environment where they can shut off studies and chiropractic talk for just a little bit. However, you can usually overhear upper quarters dropping knowledge to lower quarter students regarding classes and board exams.”

He also mentions, “I could not talk about softball and not mention the awesome students, faculty, and staff that come out and support the players through all different kinds of weather conditions. We have a saying when someone makes a great play or has a great hit, ‘stay hot, athletically’…this phrase transitions into the hallways, ‘stay hot, professionally.’ But, this is what the purpose of the team is, to create camaraderie in and around the campus community.”

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) UPDATE

Sherman has been involved in all things Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)! We are excited about this advanced imaging technology, the fascinating information gained, the better analysis of the vertebral subluxation, and the potential for better patient outcomes. Several faculty have trained with expert DACBRs and Dental Radiologists to better understand this imaging. We have aligned ourselves with forward-thinking chiropractors who are training and studying this imaging continuously in the field. Sherman intends to stay in these conversations to help grow the field of CBCT imaging to advance the analysis of the vertebral subluxation complex.

Currently, we are working through different types of analytical software and tools, in research prep focused on CBCT analysis of cervical biomechanics in gravity and are pursuing research in the analysis of chiropractic care using pre-and post-imaging. We are proud to share that our faculty continues to contribute to imaging literature supporting the use of CBCT in chiropractic care. Using all the information we gain from research and patient-consented imaging in the Health Center, we plan to formulate continuing education courses for field chiropractors and implement this analysis into our new curriculum content for students. We are thankful for all the support from alumni and regents of Sherman College. Their generosity has allowed us to dive into research and build strong content to help move the profession forward in better understanding of the upper cervical vertebral subluxation complex.

• In the Fall of 2022, the health center curriculum reverted back to the A to F model. This allows interns to receive a letter grade over the previous pass/fail grade.

• Health Center administration has moved case doctor offices off the clinic’s 1st floor to the 2nd floor, allowing the downstairs offices to be made into initial and re-evaluation examination rooms. This added additional rooms for patient care, allowing 96 more appointments weekly for the Spartanburg community and intern experience.

• The college compliance officer, Janice Higgins- Fordree, DC, ‘89, named Caroline Gregory as the new Health Center Privacy Officer in January of 2023. Gregory has been with the college and Health Center since 2015, and has continually been committed to the needs of the Health Center and college as a whole. The compliance officer and the dean of clinics feel the additional position duty is more reflective of her current role as coordinator of clinic operations.

New Case Doctors

Dr. Shannon Martin is a 2016 Life University graduate. She was born in New York City, grew up in South Carolina, and spent time as a resident of Georgia and Wisconsin before returning to South Carolina as part of Sherman’s Health Center Faculty.

She looks forward to working with the newest generation of chiropractors and sharing her knowledge. The students are the future of chiropractic, and she is grateful for the ability to contribute to the future of the profession. She enjoys working with the perinatal and pediatric populations in practice and is especially passionate about working with couples regarding fertility and preconception preparation.

When not at the Health Center, you will see her spending time with her 3-year-old daughter, Bexley, meal prepping, organizing, or creating content for her podcast.

Dr. Mara Sussman grew up in New Jersey and Connecticut. After she graduated in 1999 from Life Chiropractic College- in Atlanta, she returned to Connecticut. Following lots of travels, she decided to move to Columbus, North Carolina.

After working as an Associate in the early 2000’s, Dr. Sussman opened her own practice called Dream Adjustments in the Danbury Midwives Birth Center in Connecticut until she moved to New Hampshire where she had a home practice. She subsequently lived in Colorado and opened a natural health clinic then relocated to Miami, Florida, where she worked as an independent contractor.

Dr. Sussman is currently a speaker at trainings/classes and has a home practice in North Carolina. She started off as a clinic support faculty member in the Health Center in November of 2022 until receiving a promotion to the case doctor position in January 2023.

Dr. Sussman is very grateful to have the opportunity to be working with such talented, compassionate, and committed colleagues in the Health Center. She looks forward to contributing to the student’s experience in a positive and loving way and to helping serve our patients and the school as a whole!

Sherman College’s

“Sponsor An Intern”

Achieving intern status is a major milestone in the educational process at Sherman College. The on-campus Chiropractic Health Center is where students gain hands-on experience under the watchful guidance of our talented team of licensed doctors of chiropractic, and where they practice what they have learned in the classroom, incorporating that knowledge into every aspect of patient care.

While this time is an exciting transition, the cost can present a challenge for students. Interns are responsible for purchasing their own nametags, business cards, and clinic jackets, all necessary items as they begin caring for members of our local community.

If you would like to help lighten the financial burden on students as they enter this special phase of their education, please consider our new “Sponsor an Intern” program. You can support an intern with the greatest financial need, or we can match you up with a student who shares your home state/country, your professional interests, or even your technique specialty.

Your $250 contribution directly supports an intern in the clinic as they receive today’s best principled chiropractic education (and, your gift is tax deductible!).

Help reduce an intern’s stress as they begin the life-changing experience of caring for patients in the Health Center. This capstone experience prepares future graduates to be ready to join forces with you in the field and change the world through chiropractic. Adjusting the world for a better future starts right here in the Health Center.

“Aside from graduation, getting your intern jacket is one of the top things students look forward to in school. To have it, along with our other clinic needs, gifted to us was a huge privilege. While it may seem like a small gesture, it produces a big impact to students, and I am very thankful it.”

Community

In order to be a top-performing athlete, your body must be working at its fullest potential. Sherman College has found the perfect local partner in Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) to provide our students an opportunity to work with a college athletic program. Sherman College Health Center interns volunteer to provide pro-bono chiropractic care to SMC coaches, athletes, and athletic trainers. The initiative has seen significant growth in participation by both Sherman and SMC students since January 2023 and has led several athletes to consider a career in chiropractic, with one student planning to enroll in the Fall 2023 quarter.

Coach Aaron King, head coach of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field for SMC states, “Our teams appreciate that Sherman College is here consistently to get us aligned. As a coach, I saw more improvement from the athletes that were consistently being adjusted and personally, I have seen an improvement in my own body regarding injury prevention.” He went on to say, “SMC certainly sees this as an opportunity and advantage that we enjoy having over our competition.”

We look forward to other doors opening in our community that will allow Sherman College students to furher their skills.

The Health Center has a continued relationship with AccessHealth of the Medical Group of the Carolinas to provide chiropractic care for families in need. Having AccessHealth add the Health Center to the referral list for the Spartanburg community will allow more lives to be impacted by Sherman College’s employees and students.

This past September, the Sherman College Health Center began collaborating with a local non-profit, BirthMatters. As we approach our one year anniversary, the collaboration continues to educate expectant and new moms about the benefits of chiropractic care for themselves and their children.

Since September, we have seen over a dozen expectant mothers referred from BirthMatters to our Health Center. Not only are the expectant and new mothers seeking care, but they are also seeking care for their newborns.

As we celebrate our collaboration, we also celebrate our Faculty Case Doctor, Dr. Sarah Hock, ‘08, on her recent recognition with BirthMatters as “Champion of the Month” in February 2023 for offering compassionate care to birthing families in Spartanburg!

For more information about BirthMatters visit: www.birthmatters.org

The Health Center, with the help of Institutional Advancement, has hosted several outreach events for the Spartanburg County community. Trunk-or-Treat in October 2022, and an Egg Hunt in April 2023.

We are looking forward to hosting more events in the 2023 year.

Center for Scholarly Activity is on a MISSION and We are Obsessed with Student Success

The Center for Scholarly Activity is committed to improving the teaching and practice of chiropractic in a salutogenic, evidence-informed context focused on the analysis and correction of vertebral subluxations.

Integrating Evidence-Informed Practice

Evidence-informed curriculum and practice is an essential element of implementing these core values. The process involves the following steps:

• Evaluate the evidence base for each course. Is the material taught supported by textbooks, scientific literature, individual expertise, or a combination of these?

• Identify any gaps in the evidence for what is taught.

• Review the available literature to see which gaps can be filled.

• This will lead to recommendations for curriculum and policy change, and help develop a research agenda to fill the gaps that remain.

Our focus is improving the practice of vertebral subluxation analysis and correction, and the education of chiropractors.

The Journal of the Academy of Chiropractic Philosophers

Philosophy, in general, is a system of principles used to guide one’s life. Chiropractic, in particular, has a vitalistic philosophy that has the potential to change lives. Philosophy provides a basis for the science and art of chiropractic. When a doctor of chiropractic is observed checking an infant or child’s spine for vertebral subluxation, there is a reason WHY they are doing so. Similarly, when a chiropractor is only checking people in pain, or another is checking athletes proactively, there is a reason WHY.

A philosophy of life explains why we all do the things we do. Candidates for the Academy of Chiropractic Philosophers (ACP) are challenged to examine their own lives to see if the chiropractic mindset fits in their worldview and life. The Journal of the ACP represents the thinking and digesting of chiropractic, health and life topics that are part of the journey.

The ACP is good for a deep dive into the foundational principles and tenets of the profession. It provides an excellent basis on which to build a practice and provides opportunity to read, listen, think, discuss, digest, and express a very practical and robust approach to life.

Do you know how messages get from your brain (in your head) to your toes? That’s right, your brain. Through nerves, that’s how! Nerves travel down your back and go to all places in your body, even your toes. Do you know what controls your entire body? The brain controls your body When’s the last time you flipped a light switch for a light to come on? If the light came on that means there were no interruptions between the light switch and the light bulb. Think about this... Our Bodies work like that... Your brain sends messages thru nerves in your nervous system to parts of your body. For example if you want to wiggle your toes...your brain sends a message to your toes. What if there is an interference to that process (what chiropractors call a vertebral subluxation)? make gentle adjustments to the bones of the spine to remove interferences that can hinder the body’s natural ability to heal.

Sherman College Alumni Association

The Alumni Association was at maximum capacity for our Annual Meeting Luncheon during Lyceum. In what is a tradition for many of us, this working luncheon is a chance to socialize with classmates, reminisce about our time at Sherman, and plan for the future. Our annual luncheon at Lyceum was at capacity, and the Alumni Exclusive Reunion that was held Thursday night of Lyceum was sold out!

There is excitement to being a member of the Alumni Association. For our students, Alumni become part of the books gifted to them in first quarter for inspiration, the scholarships that ease their burden, the career events to match them with their first practice, and the many on-campus projects funded by the Association.

For our doctors in practice, there have been networking events, professional development, introductions to potential associate doctors, and the camaraderie shared with alumni across the decades.

We are always focused on events that best serve our alumni and our “future alumni,” and we welcome your insight. What would have helped you when you were a student or a new graduate? What opportunities do you have for our students today? How can we serve your practice?

I personally encourage you to reach out to me or any of our officers to share your ideas, to become more involved in the Association, to suggest future projects, and certainly to join if you are not yet a member.

Just a few months ago during Lyceum, we celebrated Dr. Thom Gelardi’s vision that is now in its remarkable 50th year. Our vision is on the next 50 years, and our Alumni Association is at its best if it includes YOU.

Annual Alumni Reunion

For Sherman College’s year-long 50th Anniversary celebration, Lyceum featured an event exclusively for alumni to celebrate the long-awaited milestone while connecting with classmates, faculty, and friends. The reunion was hosted at the historical Citizens and Southern Event Venue in downtown Spartanburg on Thursday, May 4th and saw an appearance from Drs. Thom and Betty Gelardi – who were among the first ones there, and two of the last ones to leave!

Dr. Cindy Gibbon, ’91, Sherman College faculty member and alumna was delighted with the turnout and suggested to host this event annually to provide a place for alumni to meet up and remember the “good ole days.” We couldn’t agree more, Dr. Gibbon! With over 150 people attending the event, Alumni Relations and Engagement Coordinator, Hannah Tucker, has plans to continue this tradition in 2024.

What do you do to stay connected to Sherman College now? To stay connected, I attend Lyceum each year and share Sherman College with all those interested in pursuing a career in chiropractic.

Favorite Sherman College Instructor: I was blessed with many great instructors who gave their time and talents; it’s hard to name just one! Each instructor I worked with as a student at Sherman College was approachable and personable and made themselves available to ensure the success of myself and my peers. Something I find unique to Sherman College is that each time I visit the campus, I can see one of my past instructors if not many. That speaks volumes for Sherman College, as the instructors that trained me remain committed to Sherman‘s message and the message of principled chiropractic.

What has been the best improvement to Sherman you’ve seen since you were a student? The best improvement for Sherman since being a full-time student on campus is redesigning and reorganizing the campus. The new building designs, innovative learning environment, and thoughtfulness that was considered to help support the staff and students are simply unique. Each time I visit the campus, I am reminded of the richness of Sherman’s past and the excitement of where Sherman is heading.

Spartanburg County Celebrates January 11th as Sherman College Day

On January 11, 2023, Sherman College celebrated its 50th anniversary of incorporation. The college held a small event where councilman Jack Mabry made a proclamation on behalf of Spartanburg County to officially recognize January 11th as Sherman College of Chiropractic Day. The event also welcomed founder Dr. Thom Gelardi along with Dr. Betty Gelardi, faculty, staff, and students.

In remarks made by Sherman College founder, Dr. Thom Gelardi, he explained “a profession’s mission should be fixed for all-time,” when reflecting upon his vision to start a chiropractic school in Spartanburg that supported the principles on which chiropractic is based. Dr. Gelardi went on to share that, “The practice of chiropractic evolves through the philosophy and science and is expressed through art and having a school that continued that tradition was paramount to the chiropractic profession.”

Sherman College President Dr. Jack Bourla expressed at the event that, “Today’s ceremony is a testament to what vision followed by conviction can do. Fifty years ago, Drs. Thom and Betty Gelardi had an idea - an idea to propagate the chiropractic profession into the future, while maintaining the tenets, philosophy and principles that make chiropractic a separate, unique, and distinct profession.” Dr. Bourla went on to say, “Today, Sherman College of Chiropractic stands proudly in receiving this proclamation and vows to assure that its students are educated and prepared to become doctors of chiropractic who focus on the analysis and correction of the vertebral subluxation.”

After learning about some of the challenges faced in the early days of the college, Councilman Mabry voiced that he was impressed to learn that Sherman College essentially began with nothing 50 years ago and the number of students that have come through the doors is nothing short of amazing. He went on to address students at the event saying, “Spartanburg County welcomes you here and thanks you for choosing Sherman College and Spartanburg for your education.”

Born to help...

“I have been involved in chiropractic since before I could walk. Born into a family that has been invested and fully involved with chiropractic has ingrained the philosophy and lifestyle into me. Countless hours spent in our family office has prepared me well for the long journey ahead, both in academics and further into my own practice.”

“When first coming to Sherman, I had only a slight understanding of the philosophy that Sherman strives to educate their students on. They have done just that, by ingraining the 33 chiropractic principles into the future doctors and teaching us how to incorporate them into our care for patients. Another thing I really love about Sherman is how early they start students in hands-on classes, starting to palpate the spine in the very first quarter. I highly appreciate how much Sherman supports students to perfect the hands-on aspect of the profession from start to finish. I am confident that by choosing Sherman, I will be able to express the best version of myself and also become the best chiropractor that I can be!

“I have a passion for my community and helping people to express the absolute best version of themselves through the power of chiropractic, by living subluxation-free. When I applied to Sherman, I was dedicated and determined to do what it takes to accomplish the goal of being a doctor of chiropractic. I am committed and ready to become a lifelong learner and continuously improve my mindset and skill set to excel in my profession.”

When I attended Sherman Showcase Weekend, it really displayed the close-knit community on campus. Once I began the program I was honored to be a part of this support system. Everyone here is so kind and willing to help in any way possible, and I really appreciate that. Sherman College truly is a special place, from the faculty and staff, to the students you spend every day with. Sherman has taught me to be professional, confident, hardworking, and passionate about the profession I’ve chosen. This has driven me to become a Student Ambassador myself, so that I can give back to prospective students and showcase what Sherman is all about. I wouldn’t want to spend my time anywhere else, learning through any other values. I am excited and looking forward to joining the ranks of practicing DC’s who continue to change lives each and every day.”

Krystal Barclay

Class of 2023

Hometown: Columbia, SC

From Team USA to Team ADIO

Krystal Barclay started her journey as a sports massage therapist and pivoted to chiropractic after seeing how much the athletes prioritized chiropractic care into their wellness routines.

“I have always worked in professions that allowed me to use my hands to help others. Having a background in massage therapy has allowed me to help hundreds of people feel their absolute best via my therapeutic approach and educating people on the benefits of the services provided. I have found that many people are more responsive to care when they understand the how and incorporate that information into their ‘why’ .”

As a licensed massage therapist, Krystal has worked with many Division I athletes as well as professional athletes and the Team USA organization. At the professional level, athletes have a team of individuals caring for them, and Krystal was intrigued to see that there was always a chiropractor on staff. After speaking with a few doctors at various events, she decided to research the profession.

After visiting and being sold on one chiropractic school, Krystal decided to take one more trip to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to attend Showcase Sherman Weekend. The energy was electric, and she knew that she belonged at Sherman. She applied that weekend and started school the following month.

“I started this journey to further my career with athletes. While I love sports, I see how chiropractic care should be the standard of care for everyone. I used to envision my office outside on sidelines and now it looks like an office where I am taking care of an entire family. Many people do not understand what chiropractic is and how it helps regulate our nervous system, but I plan to share chiropractic every day to create ripples in the world where others share their stories and encourage people to get under chiropractic care.”

Sherman Honors 2023 Award Recipients

Sherman College honored alumni, chiropractors and supporters during its 50th annual Lyceum, a homecoming and continuing education event attended by hundreds of alumni, prospective students, and friends of the college from across the U.S. and internationally. The college is proud to announce the following 2023 award recipients:

THOM AND BETTY GELARDI SERVICE AWARD

Bob Berkowitz, D.C., ‘81

Robert G. Berkowitz, D.C. began his Chiropractic journey in 1976 after graduating from Rutgers University in New Jersey where he earned his Bachelor of Science.

He transferred to Sherman College of Chiropractic after numerous discussions with his Rutgers fraternity brother, Dr. Peter Lope, who was enrolled at Sherman.

Sherman represented a vision of chiropractic as a separate and distinct profession, with a clear and rational objective: the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation for the sole purpose of allowing the life within the body a better circumstance to express itself.

It’s been a 42-year journey as a solo practitioner that has included actively promoting, supporting, and advancing the unique concept of a non-therapeutic chiropractor, representing Sherman at graduate student fairs around the tri-state area of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, or wherever Sherman asked him to go.

Bob served on the Sherman College Board of Trustees for 22 years, never missing a meeting or conference call. As its chair for four years, during what were the most challenging times, he represented Sherman’s vision of chiropractic at various venues including in front of the accrediting agencies of SACS and CCE, as well as federal legislators in Washington, DC.

Honor Roll of Donors

GRATITUDE FOR UNWAVERING SUPPORT

“We would not be where we are without the commitment of the donors listed on the next pages, and we will not reach our vision without their continued support.”

“As I reflect upon celebrating 50 years of Sherman College of Chiropractic, and review this Donor Honor Roll, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Gratitude for the growth and impact of Sherman College and for the commitment to the vision of the college demonstrated by each donor listed.

Nearly 800 of us gathered on the Sherman campus for Lyceum 2023 to celebrate 50 years of Sherman College. We reminisced over all the memories that have brought the college to this point with gratitude, while looking to the future with a rejuvenated sense of purpose. As our board chair, Dr. Shawn Dill, shared during his Lyceum address, we have accomplished much, but we are not stuck. We are continuing to move Sherman forward as the preeminent chiropractic college. We would not be where we are without the commitment of the donors listed on the next pages, and we will not reach our vision without their continued support. The Board of Trustees and college administration are currently collaborating with stakeholders throughout the college community to craft Sherman’s next strategic plan to guide us into our next 50 years. If you are a donor, thank you. I am so grateful for your support. If you are not a donor yet, please consider joining us. CORPORATE REGENTS

Sherman College supporters share a common passion for our vision of Adjusting the World for a Better Future. We are united by our passion for the future of chiropractic education, and therefore the future of our life-changing profession.

We are extremely thankful for all our donors, including our Corporate Regents, which are companies giving $5,000 or more annually to support the college. If you share a love of Sherman College and chiropractic education, and if you find yourself in need of one of these services, why not support a company that shares your values? We are proud to share that the following companies are Corporate Regents at Sherman College:

ChiroFutures’ commitment is to share its seasoned experience. This will assure that D.C.s are not only protected by a financially strong carrier and broad coverages, but can grow a busy practice full of happy patients. chirofutures.org

The International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations is an international organization of chiropractors, students and others who support the practice of chiropractic for the purpose of correcting vertebral subluxations because subluxations, in and of themselves, are a detriment to the fullest expression of life in all people at all times. ifcochiro.org

The Joint is revolutionizing access to chiropractic care by making quality healthcare affordable for patients seeking pain relief and ongoing wellness. Our membership plans and packages eliminate the need for insurance, and our no-appointment policy, convenient hours and locations make care more accessible.

The Joint-Upstate is revolutionizing access to chiropractic care by making quality healthcare affordable for patients in the Upstate seeking pain relief and ongoing wellness. Our membership plans and packages eliminate the need for insurance, and our no-appointment policy, convenient hours, and locations make care more accessible for our community.

thejoint.com

T.I.C. Chiropractic System offers a two-fold approach to remove vertebral subluxation complex (VSC) through the (1) analysis and (2) adjustment of the spine. The analysis protocol is a quick, precise, accurate and reproducible method to detect the presence of VSC, giving the chiropractor the confidence and assurance that the proper care is given for the patient’s overall health. ticchiro.com

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT SHERMAN COLLEGE’S DONOR HONOR ROLL

The list on these pages is composed of individuals and organizations making one or more donations received by Sherman College of Chiropractic in 2022. We take great care in compiling the lists. However, if we have mistakenly omitted your name or if your listing is incorrect, please accept our sincere apology and contact us right away so we may correct our records. If you have a correction, please contact Institutional Advancement Coordinator Alisha Morrow at 800-849-8771, ext. 352, or email amorrow@sherman.edu

A NOTE TO FACEBOOK CAMPAIGN DONORS

Sherman College appreciates every donation it receives in support of the college’s mission, vision and operations. Unfortunately, some fundraising platforms do not provide the college with details on individual donors, but rather simply send a lump sum donation from a fundraiser. This is the case with donations made on Facebook via its Network for Good service. Wherever you see “Network for Good” in the donor listings, please know that it represents multiple donations from generous donors who contributed to various Facebook fundraising campaigns for our benefit. We appreciate the support of all of our Facebook contributors, even though we are not able to thank them by name.
