CROSS Program
The Community Library Location: Guangzhou, China Period: Summer, 2015 Design Statment: The original design philosophy of the community library is to combine books with a green environment. The use of green plants would greatly decrease the sense of presence of architectures. The user would also become more free inside the architecture. The reason why we add native elements into interior space is that it could make the interior space dynamic
LOCATION INTRODUCE
In order to balance the economic development of Tianhe district, the area around Huangpu road is planned as technical and economic development zone. The scientific and technological industry and economical industry progress rapidly. However, the overdeveloped commercial district may directly lead to a disordered community structure, and cause the phenomenon of hollow area inside the city. Also, on account of the rapid development of commercial district, there’s no enough space for people’s cultural activities in community.
ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS
The design should consider not only its influence on urban community, but also the user’s convenience. Because of the single functionality of architectures nearby and close density of building, citizens couldn’t enjoy the natural environment they deserve. Therefore, the design concept called “ecological environment and architecture” becomes an important development direction. With such concept, green plants are used as protecting walls to block the pollution of air, temperature and noise. It also would realize the open space inside the building.
DESIGN PROCESS
The so-called living in a community refers to a phenomenon that people get together. The conflict of different values is the basis that keeps community lifeful and dynamic. Therefore, as a cultural activity center, citizens’ life with colourful activities is essential. The design philosophy and model of architecture also take the importance of “communication and exchange” into consideration. The architecture itself should get rid of the limitation of unicity and give play to its public character.
ELEVAION
The most featured part inside the architecture is the multistep public reading area. The central of this reading area is wide, which makes readers feel free. In addition, through the glass window equipped in the top of the building, readers could see the change of seasons. The snow in winter and sunshine in spring would become the fortune of library. Finally, a public library is formed inside the community. making the entire space connectable.
Through previous analysis, green plants are planted inside the architecture. In order to make a good environment for photosynthesis of plants, we rotate and rearrange the buildings. This method also adds interestingness to the architecture and diversifies the form of space. Because the architecture is rotated, so the spiral stair is adopted, which is more convenient than the traditional stair. The curve of spiral stair also makes the geometric construction become vivid.
