Raku Slabs Firing raku ceramics is a dramatic almost theatrical process involving smoke and fire. A ceramic object is removed from a kiln firing when about 1650 degrees, cherry red in color, and plunged into a combustible environment. Sawdust or paper catches fire creating an atmospheric reduction. The resulting carbon is trapped in the unglazed surfaces of the clay creating velvety rich blacks only achievable through this process.

Stoneware Slabs Ceramic stoneware is created when stoneware clay is fired to a high temperature of around 2400 degrees. At that temperature the molecular structure of the clay itself is vitrified or turned to stone. Ceramics fired to this temperature are extremely durable, impervious to water and can be placed in outdoor environments where they will withstand all manner of weather conditions.
