Results With VMI, EPSI and Sherwin-Williams have taken the pressure and worry of downtime away from the customer. Primary benefits included:
50% savings in total freight and supply expenses
20% reduction in operating costs through the elimination of masking supply shortfalls at critical times
EPSI’s VMI program includes a shelving unit and labeled bins provided at no charge for the 30 to 40 different masking products regularly supplied. As new business arrives, Sherwin-Williams ensures that an EPSI VMI Project Manager is on hand to advise on masking techniques and product innovations. These innovations, such as perforated rolls, promote repeatability and quality on the line. EPSI’s 3D Rapid Prototype printing capabilities have been an added bonus. Utilizing prototypes of custom rubber plugs for testing ensures form and fit. This provides the customer with the confidence needed to proceed directly to production, cutting lead times by weeks.

TIPS
Preventative Maintenance Preventative maintenance on all equipment is essential to productivity. Having wear parts in stock can limit costly downtimes and lost production. Preventative maintenance should be daily, weekly and monthly. This would entail checking tips and filters on guns as well as packings and seals on pumps. Spending five minutes a day can save hours of downtime in the future.

SOLUTIONS TO SUPPORT YOUR GROWTH DAVE ZELCH, GLOBAL BUSINESS DIRECTOR, SHERWIN-WILLIAMS PRODUCT FINISHES
Happy New Year! Sherwin-Williams is excited to begin our 151st year committed to advancing your business objectives. While growth rates varied across industries in 2016, analysts are cautiously optimistic about a return to moderate growth with an eye toward expansion in U.S. manufacturing in the coming year. This is supported by a forecast increase in confidence and reflected by a slightly positive Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI)*. A positive trend is projected in the transportation, energy, construction, building products and defense segments. While there are signs of growth, businesses will continue to seek new efficiencies to stay competitive. In this second issue of ProFinisher, we highlight innovative products and programs to help your finishing operation achieve measurable efficiency and productivity gains and minimize downtime. To support you this year, our team of experts will provide solutions to your most challenging finishing needs. Some may be breakthroughs like Powdura OneCure, a patent-pending powder technology that offers production efficiencies in a single cure, eliminating the need for a primer oven. Others may be small, incremental changes like identifying a new booth filter to improve capture efficiency and finish quality. These solutions are bundled and delivered through more than 70 North American servicing locations and production sites, and executed by hundreds of our employees who focus on you, because your success is our success.
ENGINEERING SUCCESS EPSI SUCCESS STORY
EPSI is an industry-leading provider of service and engineered finishing solutions. As a Sherwin-Williams ProVisions™ partner, EPSI helped a manufacturer of automated bus doors who utilized Sherwin-Williams for powder and liquid coatings. Savings were achieved through eliminating unnecessary freight charges and inventory outages for the masking materials critical to the finishing process. Challenge The bus door manufacturer experienced masking inventory shortfalls at critical junctures in the finishing process, causing downtime. In addition, the incumbent masking supplier offered no technical support on best practices with regard to masking-tape cutting and application. This led the customer to miss out on labor saving efficiencies.
Solution By bringing in Sherwin-Williams ProVisions™ partner, EPSI, to advise the manufacturing engineer, the Sherwin-Williams sales rep provided the path forward their customer required. EPSI’s hands-on account team: Keeps weekly tabs on what the customer needs to reorder ■ Guarantees availability through its Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) program and local Sherwin-Williams Product Finishes facility ■
