VT LeeBoy also opted to install a central vacuum system connected to Mirka hoses. As a result of these changes, the manufacturer immediately noticed cost and labor savings, as well as environmental and quality improvements, including:

Ed Sikes, District Sales Manager at Mirka Abrasives, was demonstrating how the dust-free sanding system saves money and improves work quality at a Sherwin-Williams facility event when he struck up a conversation with Sherwin-Williams General Industrial Coatings Sales Manager Josh Reep. Josh had recently met with VT LeeBoy about the manufacturer’s initiative to improve environmental conditions and increase efficiencies in its plant. Josh knew the sanding equipment could be just what his customer was looking for.
LESS WASTE The lifespan of the abrasive has been extended because it, and the sanding surface, are constantly kept dust-free. INCREASED SPEED Thanks to the hook and loop backing on the sanding discs, they can be removed and reused as needed. This reduces waste and decreases the number of times new abrasives must be collected.
No dust also guarantees an easier and quicker cleaning process. IMPROVED PLANT ENVIRONMENT Cleaner air means better working conditions. Without the dust, VT LeeBoy operators no longer need to wear respirators or dusk masks while sanding.
Josh asked Ed to repeat the presentation at VT LeeBoy, a manufacturer of commercial asphalt paving equipment, including pavers, graders, distributors and brooms. The hands-on, side-by-side comparison of the manufacturer’s standard sanding equipment and the Mirka dust-free system impressed the VT LeeBoy finishers. While the standard sanding equipment was enveloped in a cloud of dust as the demonstration progressed, the Mirka system had none. The demonstration led VT LeeBoy to replace its standard sanding tools with: Mirka PROS 650SGV Self Generating Vacuum Sander and Mirka PROS 650CV Vacuum Sander are 6” diameter with 5mm orbit. They are specially developed to produce maximum dust extraction – even at low suction power – thanks to a wider dust suction outlet in the machine housing which substantially improves dust suction efficiency.
THE PERFECT SURFACE With an efficient dust-free sanding system, there is no danger of sanded dust building up and creating grooves on the sanding surface, or filling up the disc and reducing its sanding capacity.
Mirka MR-6SGV Self Generating Vacuum Sander is 6” diameter with 5mm orbit. It is constructed of precision molded composites for strength and durability, while decreasing operator fatigue and reducing sound for increased comfort.
By providing a dust-free and level sanding surface, the abrasive maintains its aggressive cutting properties while improving the quality of work. For example, operators can always see what is being sanded, gaining excellent control over the work area to avoid over-sanding.
