Dad’s Army (PG)
Room (15)
The classic TV sitcom gets the big screen treatment, in an all-star remake starring Toby Jones, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon & Tom Courtney. It is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmingtonon-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard is low. Their new mission then - to patrol the Dover army base - is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert. But when M15 discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea it becomes clear there’s a spy on the loose. Now the outcome of the war is at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.
Bed, Lamp, Skylight, Rug... These are the things that five-year-old Jack’s physical world is comprised of. He may have been trapped in an 11-square-foot room since his birth, but he doesn’t see it that way, as the world outside the room doesn’t exist for him. Ma, for whom their captivity is a very real concept, is absolutely determined to raise him properly, employing all the care and imagination she can muster to keep Jack educated, healthy and happy. But when a window of escape suddenly presents itself, Jack is thrust into an entirely new understanding of the world.
True Romance (18)
Do I Sound Gay (15)
When nerdy comic store clerk Clarence (Christian Slater) meets the lovely Alabama (Patricia Arquette) in a cinema, it’s love at first sight. He doesn’t even mind when he learns that she’s a hooker hired by his boss as a birthday present. But things start to get complicated very quickly. Clarence becomes involved in a bloody shootout with Alabama’s pimp, Drexl (Gary Oldman), and the couple find themselves on the run with a suitcase full of cocaine. They plan to sell this in LA and start a new life, but reckon without the pursuing mob and cops. Directed by the late Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino after his breakout success with Reservoir Dogs, the dazzling True Romance is filled with great characters and whip-smart dialogue.
After a break-up with his boyfriend, journalist David Thorpe embarks on a hilarious and touching journey of self-discovery, confronting his anxiety about “sounding gay.” Enlisting acting coaches, linguists, friends, family, total strangers, and celebrities, he quickly learns that many people - both gay and straight - often wish for a different voice.

Valhalla is a new suite of work composed by Beoga, along with Chris Stout and Catriona McKay. The artists will undertake a five-day residency commissioned by The MAC to jointly create new music. The compositions will marry the links between the music of Shetland and the music of Ireland. The residency will result in a series of performances to showcase the collaboration in The MAC and other venues across Ireland and Shetland. Beoga are a leading force on the music scene in Northern Ireland, and are one of the most prolific bands on the touring circuit. McKay and Stout have performed regularly with Sean Og Graham of Beoga with the group Fiddlers Bid. This led to the idea of a cross national show incorporating new material and trademark compositions. As well as a 20 minute program of new compositions, the collaboration seeks to explore and develop the music from Seavaigers (featuring the music of Sally Beamish and Chris Stout & Catriona McKay, July 2014) and Beoga’s albums The Incident (Grammy shortlisted album in 2009) and How To Tune A Fish (2012).

Mozart
String Quintet No.4 in G minor, K516
Brahms
String Quintet No.2 in G major, Op.111
Martin Suckling Nocturne
In the key of G, five Scottish Ensemble musicians take you from minor to major with two beautifully crafted quintets by two masters of the form.
COMING UP...
Written in G minor, a key long associated in Mozart’s work with agitation, anguish and desperation, it’s easy to see why this, and Mozart’s five other quintets, are considered so spectacular, and said to pave the way for the romantic model - the model which was perfected and, arguably, transcended by Brahms in his second quintet. In fact, it was intended as his last ever work- in his own words, he had said all he had to say as a composer.
THU 21 APR | VIOLIN & CELLO DUOS Cellist Alison Lawrance and violinist Cheryl Crockett perform this arrangement of Halvorsen’s Passacaglia for violin & viola. Music by Beethoven, Bach, Bartók and more.
JUN 2016 | SE SHETLAND RESIDENCY
Glasgow-born composer Martin Suckling’s Nocturne provides something different altogether: its feather-light, ethereal, lingering slides and tones will stay with you long after the performance ends.
Scottish Ensemble set up on the island for four days of events, from workshops to concerts to pop-up performances.

Dirty Grandpa (15)
Zoolander 2 (12A)
Uptight lawyer Jason Kelly (Zac Efron) is one week away from marrying his boss’s controlling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at his firm. Tricked by his grandfather Dick (Robert De Niro), Jason finds himself driving the foulmouthed old man to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a wild spring break that includes frat parties, bar fights and an epic night of karaoke. While Jason worries about the upcoming wedding, Dick tries to show his grandson how to live life to the fullest.
Dim male model Derek Zoolander is back in Ben Stiller’s side-splitting sequel to his comedy classic. Fifteen years have passed since pouty Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) bestrode the world like a colossus as the world’s greatest male fashion model. Today, Derek and his catwalk rival-turned-friend Hansel (Owen Wilson) find themselves cruelly dismissed as old and irrelevant. But then someone starts murdering the world’s most beautiful people, who are all found sporting Derek’s iconic Blue Steel look. Baffled Interpol Fashion Division agent Valentina (Penelope Cruz) recruits our heroes to go undercover in the world of high fashion, which is now dominated by plastic surgery enthusiast Alexanya Atoz (Kristen Wiig). Delighted to find themselves back in the game, Derek and Hansel soon find that all roads lead to their old foe, Mugatu (Will Ferrell).

Feeling like a fish out of water, she is quickly comforted by her bold and brash friend Robin, who sets about showing her how to play the lonely hearts scene like a seasoned professional. Before long, the pair have got male attention coming in from all angles, and Alice realises that being single does indeed have its many pluses. How to be Single stars Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids , Pitch Perfect) and Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey).
Brad Taggart (Will Ferrell) is a kindhearted radio executive who wants to be the best possible stepfather to his wife’s (Linda Cardellini) two children. When her freewheeling ex-husband Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) breezes back into town, Brad’s feeling of insecurity quickly develops into an inferiority complex. Hector (15)
Seven Songs for a Long Life (12A)
Peter Mullan delivers a perfectly pitched performance as affable homeless pensioner Hector McAdam, in this captivating study of a man with a tragic past. For years Hector has wandered between motorway service stations, sleeping under bridges, and living on handouts; however, when his past life starts to catch up with him, the reasons for his self-imposed exile become clear.
Documentary by Amy Hardie. Six hospice patients allow us into tender, vulnerable and funny moments of their lives. Singing unlocks the patients’ pasts, guides their dreams and their futures. Encouraged by one nurse who loves to sing, and a collaborative filming process, they wrestle with the new insecurity facing us all: recent advances in biomedicine mean we can now live for years rather than months after a terminal diagnosis. Sometimes. But not every time. How do we cope with this uncertainty? As they go through the little and big dramas of trying to make a will, medicating pain, finding a guardian for a child and moving house, we see the growing relationship between staff and patient, patient and patient. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to help face your own mortality, making the process of dying itself safe, individual, and as gentle as possible.
When Harry Met Sally (15) Can Men and Women be friends, or does sex always get in the way? Celebrate Valentine’s Day with this classic romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal. The film follows would-be lovers Harry (Crystal) and Sally (Ryan) over a decade, but the path to true love never did run smoothly, and they move from suspicion to friendship – and that diner scene – until, inevitably, the ‘sex part’ gets in the way. But will romance win out in the end?
The Assassin (12A) Back with his first film in eight years, legendary Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien wowed this year’s Cannes Film Festival (where he won Best Director) with his awe-inspiring THE ASSASSIN - a wondrous take on the traditional wuxia film. Set in 9th-century China, Nie Yinniang is a young woman who was abducted in childhood from a decorated general and raised by a nun who trained her in the martial arts. After 13 years of exile, she is returned to the land of her birth as an exceptional assassin, with orders to kill her betrothed husband-to-be. She must confront her parents, her memories, and her long-repressed feelings in a choice to sacrifice the man she loves or break forever with the sacred way of the righteous assassins. Rich with shimmering, breathing texture and punctuated by brief but unforgettable bursts of action, THE ASSASSIN is a martial arts film like none made before it.
Tangerine (15) It’s Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend hasn’t been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra, embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity.

Previous recipients include print maker Jono Sandilands, who used the award to develop his work The Arts of Ping Pong, which has now exhibited in Shetland and Bristol: “The Visual Arts & Craft award from Shetland Arts allowed me to develop The Art of Ping Pong from a concept to a reality, I used the award to purchase equipment and software fundamental to the project. I expanded my skills in programming for interactive artwork. Obtaining funding has opened up opportunities for me, including having my first solo exhibition. The project is still ongoing and has been exhibited outwith Shetland twice. Having received funding makes me more credible for when applying for future funding and residencies, it’s benefits surpass the worth in currency” For any more information on the award or application process, please contact Floortje Robertson, Creative Project Manager – floortje.robertson@shetlandarts.org

We also develop and promote a year round programme of film, music, theatre, literature, visual arts, & dance events. We do this because we want to see Shetland celebrated as a place where inspiration & innovation are valued; where people want to live, work & study; and we want the full social & economic potential of the islands to be achieved.
