THE 100-YEAROLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT THE WINDOW & DISAPPEARED On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct The story follows Allan Karlsson who, on his 100th birthday, decides there is more to life than waiting for death in a retirement home, climbs out of his window and disappears. What follows is an extraordinary journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash, some unpleasant criminals, a friendly hot-dog stand operator, and an elephant.
ATTILA MARCEL On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct French language film with English subtitles. Attila Marcel is the charming live-action debut from acclaimed director Sylvain Chomet (Belleville Rendez-Vous, The Illusionist). Paul (Guillaume Gouix), a thirty something Parisian, lives with his two aunts, two old aristocrats who have raised him since the age of two. Living his aunts’ dream of becoming a virtuoso pianist, Paul’s life is stuck in the same daily routine - cut off from the world, devoid of vitality. After a fateful encounter with his eccentric neighbour, Madame Proust (Anne Le Ny), Paul unearths his most deeply buried memories, and the key to living his own life at last.
FURY On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct Brad Pitt’s second WW2 film is a far more visceral, indeed credible exercise: starring as ‘Wardaddy’, he’s commanding the crew of an outgunned, inadequately armoured Sherman tank slogging through Europe toward the war’s end. His battle-weary crew includes Shia LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, Logan Lerman as a naïve rookie, and as a perpetual drunk, Michael Peña. Ayer makes it clear this isn’t about the glory of victory, for as Wardaddy says, “You think it can’t get any worse, and then it does”, and the relentless battle scenes – filmed with murky, muddy realism in Britain – only confirm that. The fearful claustrophobia of tank warfare has never been better realised.

CORALINE 3D & 2D On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct From the visionary director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and based on Neil Gaiman’s bestselling book, comes a spectacular stop-motion animated adventure. Coraline Jones is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternative version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it - only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world - and save her family.
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct HALLOWEEN SPECIAL DRESS-UP SCREENING! A decade of wisecracking sequels have not diminished the power of this striking horror film. Teenagers in a small town are dropping like flies, apparently in the grip of a mass hysteria that is causing their suicides. A cop’s daughter (Heather Langenkamp) traces the cause to child molester Fred Krueger (Robert Englund), who was burned alive by angry parents many years before. Krueger has now come back in the dreams of his killers’ children, claiming their lives as his revenge. Wes Craven creates moments of real dread by examining the line between nightmares and reality, as well as the ‘sins of the parents’ theme, and although the film is quite gory, it never resorts to cheap blood-letting for its effect. A unique and disturbing experience. COME IN COSTUME AND YOU COULD WIN A PRIZE! FOLLOWED BY HALLOWEEN MIXOLOGY@MAREEL IN CAFE BAR.
BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct Following a dreadful accident in her 20s, Christine Lucas (Nicole Kidman) wakes up every morning unable to remember a thing about her past or her identity. She relies on her loving husband Ben (Colin Firth) to make the decisions that enable her to get through the day in their neat suburban home. But when she secretly begins seeing a sympathetic doctor (Mark Strong, playing squarely against his hard-man image) who encourages her to take down her thoughts on a digital recorder, she discovers that her situation – and especially her marriage – is not what it seems.

THE BOOK OF LIFE 3D & 2D On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct The Book of Life is the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favourites, The Book of Life encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.
IDA On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct Polish language film with English subtitles. Seamlessly weaving together the deeply resonant narratives of two wonderfully realized characters, Ida is a beautifully filmed meditation on identity set in Poland in 1962. 18-year old Anna (stunning newcomer Agata Trzebuchowska), a sheltered orphan raised in a convent, is preparing to become a nun when the Mother Superior insists she first visit her sole living relative. Naive, innocent Anna soon finds herself in the presence of her aunt Wanda (Agata Kulesza), a worldly and cynical Communist Party insider, who shocks her with the declaration that her real name is Ida and her Jewish parents were murdered during the Nazi occupation. This revelation triggers a heart-wrenching journey into the countryside, to the family house and into the secrets of the repressed past, evoking the haunting legacy of the Holocaust and the realities of postwar Communism.
A DANGEROUS GAME On sale now, showing from: Fri 31 Oct In this sequel to the award-winning You’ve Been Trumped, director Anthony Baxter once again follows American billionaire Donald Trump and a cast of others who want to turn places into golf courses and playgrounds for the super rich. From the historic site of Dubrovnik to the ancient sand dunes and rolling green hills of the seaside town of Balmedie, these tycoons influence governments and meddle in national environmental policies to acquire their latest trophies. With in-depth interviews and Baxter’s expert storytelling, we learn just how devastating these golf courses can be to the surrounding countryside and water tables. In this funny, inspiring and at times heartbreaking David and Goliath story for the 21st century, the locals don’t give in easily. But will their fight be enough to protect their land and traditional way of life?

Showing from: Fri 7 Nov Tickets on sale: Wed 29 Oct It’s been several years since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, headed by Dr. Clay Haskett, rescued Winter. With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy (Morgan Freeman), who developed a unique prosthetic tail for the injured dolphin, they were able to save her life. Yet their fight is not over. Winter’s surrogate mother, the very elderly dolphin Panama, has passed away, leaving Winter without the only pool-mate she has ever known. However, the loss of Panama may have even greater repercussions for Winter, who, according to USDA regulations, cannot be housed alone, as dolphins’ social behaviour requires them to be paired with other dolphins. Time is running out to find a companion for her before the team at Clearwater loses their beloved Winter to another aquarium.

Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is now... Annabelle.
The Weiss family is the archetypical Hollywood dynasty: father Stafford (John Cusack) is an analyst and coach, who has made a fortune with his self-help manuals; mother Cristina (Olivia Williams) mostly looks after the career of their son Benjie (Evan Bird), 13, a child star. One of Stafford’s clients, Havana (Julianne Moore), is an actress who dreams of shooting a remake of the movie that made her mother, Clarice, a star in the 60s. Clarice is dead now and visions of her come to haunt Havana at night. Adding to the toxic mix, Benjie has just come off a rehab program he joined when he was 9 and his sister, Agatha (Mia Wasikowska), has recently been released from a sanatorium where she was treated for criminal pyromania and befriended a limo driver, Jerome (Robert Pattinson), who is also an aspiring actor.

‘71 Showing from: Fri 7 Nov Tickets on sale: Wed 29 Oct Gary Hook is an ordinary British soldier on a tour of duty in the crisis zone that is 1971 Northern Ireland. When a routine search goes wrong, he finds himself alone behind enemy lines. In any other film, the result would simply be an adrenaline-fuelled flight to freedom, but this tale doesn’t unfold that way, focusing instead on the experience of the man on the ground, putting us in Hook’s shoes. Nightfall is especially treacherous: it’s then that the world goes crazy and a lawless parody of justice descends to control the deserted streets.

Combining the subtle political satire of James Dashner’s bestselling novels with a lush visual landscape that brings the scale and strange beauty of the maze to life, this first instalment in a new series manages to be that rare thing, an intelligent blockbuster that appeals to all ages.
Showing from: Fri 14 Nov Tickets on sale: Wed 5 Nov Once upon a time, screenwriter Keith Michaels (Hugh Grant) was on top of the world - a Golden Globe Award and a hit movie to his name, a beautiful wife and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of wit and charm. But that was fifteen years ago: now, he’s divorced, broke, approaching fifty and hasn’t written a hit film in years. Luckily, his agent has a job for him - a university in the quiet town of Binghamton is looking for someone to teach a course in screenwriting, and with an empty wallet as his motivation, Keith can’t say no. Hoping to give minimal attention to his duties and focus on writing a new script, his attitude slowly begins to turn when he meets Holly (Marisa Tomei). A single mum working two jobs to earn her degree, the pair find themselves connected by their mutual need for a second chance.

WAKOLDA (THE GERMAN DOCTOR) Showing from: Fri 14 Nov Tickets on sale: Wed 5 Nov Spanish language film with English subtitles. When a scientist befriends an Argentine family, in particular their young daughter Lilith, they unknowingly strike up a friendship with one of the world’s most terrifying war criminals, Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who is on the run for his crimes in Auschwitz post World War II. As he starts to penetrate their everyday life and offer growth hormone therapy to Lilith, the family’s father becomes suspicious of this charismatic yet lethal man.
The Coen Brothers’ celebration of 1960s folk music in their film Inside Llewyn Davis inspired the concert Another Day, Another Time. Produced by T Bone Burnett, who also produced the film’s soundtrack, and held in New York City’s Town Hall, the concert features live performances of the film’s music, as well as songs from the early 1960s. Some of the greatest folk musicians (Avett Brothers, Joan Baez, Dave Rawlings Machine, Rhiannon Giddens, Lake Street Dive, Colin Meloy, The Milk Carton Kids, Marcus Mumford, Punch Brothers, Patti Smith, Willie Watson, Gillian Welch, and Jack White) and the star of Inside Llewyn Davis Oscar Isaac assembled for one unique evening. Featuring interviews with the musicians and behind the scenes footage while they’re rehearsing for the concert, Another Day, Another Time gives an insight on the role folk music plays for them.
