At Mareel, we love listening to great live music and the venue has been specifically designed with great acoustics in mind.

At the Café Bar in Mareel we pride ourselves on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create delicious, rustic dishes and refreshments - the perfect accompaniment to a day out at Mareel.

Mareel’s Main Auditorium is the perfect space for any kind of concert, from orchestra to rock band; can be arranged for standing room, theatre seating, cabaret seating, or bespoke options; and the sound and lighting equipment are state of the art; all of which means that every gig in Mareel is unique and enjoyable for all who attend. In February and beyond we have a great selection of events lined up for the Auditorium. This booklet contains details of all upcoming events for which you can currently purchase tickets. Tickets are available via Shetland Box Office in Mareel and Islesburgh, over the phone on 01595 745 555, or online at www.mareel.org

We offer a wide selection of teas, coffees, other hot and cold drinks, bar refreshments, and light snacks, so come along and enjoy a fabulous view, a comfy seat, and some delicious food and drink. To find out what light snacks, tasty breakfasts, brunch, lunch, bar snacks and sweet treats are currently available, please check the board daily or ask our friendly staff. The Café Bar also plays host to regular events which are free to attend, from live music to DJs, the details of which you can find on Page 8 of this booklet.

Friday 8 February DOORS 7pm MAREEL AUDITORIUM One of Scotland’s foremost folk singers, Kris Drever, returns to Shetland for an appetising gig early in February. Kris (son of Orcadian songwriter Ivan Drever) and his Trio will perform songs from their brand new album Storymap, which is due for release four days earlier, along with selections from Kris’ back catalogue. Kris previously played before a 200-strong audience in Sound Hall in early 2011. Kris recently performed on national television as part of the adventurous folk trio LAU on the BBC’s prestigious Later With Jools Holland series. LAU also went down a storm at the Shetland Folk Festival back in 2010. Support on the night will coming from one of the brightest additions to Shetland’s folk scene, Vair, featuring Ryan Couper, Jonny Polson and the Peterson brothers, Erik and Lewie. £15 / £12.50

Two places as One with Kathleen Jamie & Jen Hadfield Friday 1 March Doors: 6pm Mareel Screen 2 Hear readings by two poets who engage with nature in their work: Jen reads in Shetland and is broadcast to Edinburgh, while Kathleen reads in Edinburgh and is broadcast to Shetland. They’ll discuss whether technology and nature can support one another, how contemporary poetry responds to modern landscapes and link up with live feeds from Scotland’s wilderness.

Donnie Munro Friday 29 March Doors: 8pm Mareel Auditorium Former Runrig frontman Donnie Munro has enjoyed considerable success as a solo artist and writer and recently embarked on a series of acoustic shows where he has taken the opportunity to revisit a wide range of material spanning his career with Runrig and with his own band. Shetland Arts is delighted to welcome such a talented musician to Mareel. £16

Mercury Prize-nominated Fife singer-songwriter King Creosote, aka Kenny Anderson, will perform in Mareel as part of a duo in spring 2013. Anderson has released over forty albums and is also a member of the Scottish-Canadian band, The Burns Unit. Local support to be confirmed.

The UK’s number 1 tribute to Pink Floyd play Shetland for the 1st time as part of a tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s seminal album Dark Side Of The Moon. As well as performing Dark Side of The Moon in it’s entirety, MacFloyd will also play many other tracks from Pink Floyd’s back catalogue as part of a stunning 2 hour show.

Sunday 31 March Doors 7pm Mareel Auditorium Come and join the Bon-Accord Silver Band - the North of Scotland’s Premier Brass Band - in concert on their 50th anniversary Northern Isles tour. Featuring music to suit all tastes. Joined by the Lerwick Brass Band.

One of the biggest bands of the 2-Tone movement, The Beat play with the sole aim of connecting with and entertaining their appreciative audience with their relentless energy and world class musicianship.
