CAFÉ BAR At the Café Bar in Mareel we pride ourselves on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create delicious, rustic dishes and refreshments - the perfect accompaniment to a day out at Mareel. In Bonhoga, the books will be available to swap in the Mill Café. Bring in your old books and swap them for some new reading material all through the week. 100% free and all for the love of reading!

The Irish accordionist has achieved legendary status throughout the world and has made the much-maligned accordion ‘cool’ again. Renowned for her collaborations, not just in traditional music, but through all musical genres from hip-hop to cajun, country to classical, and even rap, she has worked with artists including Bono, Sinead O’Connor, Steve Earle, Mark Knopfler, Alison Krauss, and Willie Nelson. Aly Bain, Scotland’s supreme traditional style fiddler, recently collaborated with Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ale Möller, to create the album Fully Rigged - a celebration of shared Nordic heritage. FINLAY MACDONALD with ROSS MARTIN Fresh from recording their new album The Cauld Wind at the studio in Mareel, Chris Stout and Finlay MacDonald, joined by master guitarist Ross Martin, will be returning to the venue for a thrilling live performance. They said: “We had been experimenting with different venues for almost two years because we wanted to use a space with a beautiful acoustic which would capture the overall sound that we produce - the Main Auditorium in Mareel was just the perfect place!”

Over the summer, these musicians and poets have been exploring some of Shetland’s remote landscapes. On this special evening, eight new songs, pieces and suites of poems inspired by these visits will be performed by their creators. The event also marks the launch of a new website, backfrombeyond.org, the centre-piece of this project, from where each of these new works can be downloaded for free. TICKETS £14 / £12

SHETLAND A CELEBRATION SATURDAY 30 NOVEMBER Doors: 7pm, Start: 7.30pm MAREEL AUDITORIUM Students of the University of the Highlands & Islands BA Applied Music course from all over Scotland (including Shetland students based in Mareel) will undertake a 4-day residency in the Isles, rehearsing and performing in schools, culminating in a Gala Concert celebrating Shetland. The group brings together all types of musical styles including trad, folk, jazz, rock and classical. The line-up will be led by local musicians Peter Wood and Margaret Scollay. Highlights will include a tribute to the legacy of Peerie Willie Johnson.
